Get Used To It: Bucky Irving Held Out Of Practice Today

October 31st, 2024

Precaution for nagging toe injury.

Bucs energizing rookie running back Bucky Irving did not practice today. He’s probably a game-time decision, Bucs coach Todd Bowles told the local pen and mic club today.

And expect it to be that way all season.

Irving has a toe issue. The Bucs haven’t provided details. Bowles said Irving has had the same issue since his days at Oregon. And Bowles added that injury isn’t going away. At least, not this season.

“Bucky [Irving] will be the same as last week,” Bowles said of Irving’s injury status. “He’ll probably practice towards the end of the week, but he’ll have this problem all year long, probably.”

Bowles does not like talking about injuries. He rarely offers anything more than a word or two. So for him to go in-depth on an injury, it pretty much means each week may be a gameday flip of the coin on whether Irving will suit up or not.

A lot of Bucs fans were wondering why Irving didn’t get more touches Sunday. Bowles said Irving is not on any pitch count.

“We limit him during the week so he can play in the games,” Bowles said. “During the game, he’s fine.”

So no, Irving’s nagging toe injury did not prevent him from getting more runs.

And still he’s the most dangerous guy on offense. I haven’t been this excited about a Buc RB since Cadillac’s first 4 games.

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

Hmm intriguing injury. Maybe a healing broken toe or tendon/ligament tear? If so does that mean the young buc is reliant on ketorolac injections on Gameday? If so, that’s terrible for the kid. I’d rather he just sit out or get whatever procedure he needs to heal it up.

  3. PSL Bob Says:

This guy needs to get more touches. He jukes defensive players like no we’ve had on this team for a long time.

  4. Jw94buc Says:

Bowles will risk this man’s career to save his own ass. That should speak volumes.

  5. Pewter Power Says:

Oh no we can’t limit his carries there’s no one behind him to that can help the run game 😑 damn I don’t like Bowles. The way he moves and cuts I hope it doesn’t get worse as the season goes on

  6. Badbucs Says:

Nothing wrong with Tucker. Why not preserve Bucky? Must want to get him hurt like he did Evans.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

Bowles might be trying to make the Chiefs think Irving will be limited for the game and then use him more, who knows? But if he is dinged up, how about giving Tucker the rock? The idea is to keep the Chiefs offense on the sideline, isn’t it? Becsuse of Bowles I am worried that the Bucs will certainly get boat raced on national TV. That should get the Glazers’ attention.

  8. Bojim Says:

Hope he plays. If not Tucker won’t miss a beat.

  9. Pahpahmike Says:

When well I would like to see Irving start he looks a lot better at hitting the holes and making people miss than White. Also the Bucs need to fire their training staff, darn near every player has been injured. I know this is Pro Football but d…

  10. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Bowles will go to any and all extremes to not play his best running back. Dang shame.

  11. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Stop the nonsense Todd, play the man. Don’t be afraid.

  12. BoricuaBucFan Says:

Cadillacs 1st fire games? How about his whole rookie season? He had hof potential if it wasn’t for blowing out both knees

  13. Pickgrin Says:

    Sounds like Turf Toe…. bummer…..

  14. FumUnda Says:

The season is already over, why make it worse, sit the kid and plan for next season

  15. heyjude Says:

Todd is probably getting advice from the Bucs medical team too. And reading his statement, the toe problem was something Bucky had in college and they are working with it because it isn’t going away this season. Agree with Pickgrin, it could be Turf Toe.

Let Bucky rest, ice it, rehab, and other methods and go from there. Bucky will play against KC. So happy the Bucs drafted him!

  16. Oxycondomns Says:

he doesnt need his toes he will be good to go like last week

  17. Antonio C Says:

Bucky is the starting back in my eyes. He consistently get the ball moving on the ground. In fact he’s the only reason we have a ground game this season. He runs with purpose. White just runs. With the addition of Turner to the back field we still have a chance. Turner and Irving are two I would definitely keep on my roster.
