Bucky Irving Is Used To The NFL Now

October 31st, 2024

Learned to battle NFL defenses.

Some wise men in the NFL say that come December, rookies are no longer rookies if they are starting.

That means a rookie with 12 games as a starter is now a veteran.

While Bucs rookie running back Bucky Irving still has his rookie status, he admitted he doesn’t feel much like a rookie any longer.

“I think it’s slowed down for me a whole lot,” Irving said. “When I first got out there, it was going pretty fast, but I feel like the more you play, things pretty much slow down.

“I feel like that’s on every level that you play, like when you come from high school it translates into college and then from college to the NFL.”

For Irving it sure has. Per NextGen Stats, he has the highest percentage of forced missed tackles of any running back in the game. His specialty coming out of Oregon was making the first guy miss.

He’s doing that in the NFL, too.

“Once you get the groove on how defenses are playing, how fast things are going, you pretty much get a groove, and everything just slows down for you,” Irving said.

Irving also dismissed any tension with other Bucs running backs because Bucs coahh Todd Bowles wants a three-headed attack at running back.

Irving said his Oregon Ducks had a three-headed running back attack and there were no issues because all the running backs were tight and they each wanted the other to succeed and win.

“It’s always good to have three good backs in the room and you just have to have your brother’s back whenever one of us is out there,” Irving said.

And some believe Irving ought to be out there more often.

Since we already had Cadillac Williams, are we gonna have Bentley Irving or Buick Irving?

    Uhhhhh No baker Bowl…..

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

Maybe the best 4th round pick I’ve seen. The guy is a player. Kudos to our front office!

Bucky has the right mindset too. His statement about playing at every level, coming from high school to college, and then to the NFL is very true. He transitioned to the NFL very well. So lucky that the Bucs drafted him.

Baker Bowl – Bentley Irving. Great idea! Beamer Irving, or something else? Joe could have a poll or ask Bucky to choose.

    Kenton – True that!

  5. JimBobBuc Says:

Buck and Tuck need more Tuches. Put White in for catches and as a lead fullback.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Agree JimBob. Give the guy more touches. Dude is a player!

  7. BucVoyager Says:

Remember when people were mad that we picked him. A few missed tackles changes opinions.

  8. A Bucs Fan Says:

Tucker needs more carries. Bucky needs load management if he’s playing on a bum toe. Hopefully it fully heals in the offseason and he becomes the feature back next year.

  9. Lt. Dan Says:

I’m hoping for more Irving and Tucker and less (3rd down back) White.

Yeah Bucky didn’t practice today again. He need a week off.
