Rachaad White = Money Back?

October 29th, 2024

Rachaad White gets past Dixie Chicks defenders on his 18-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown Sunday.

Did Bucs coach Todd Bowles announce that Rachaad White is his money back without saying White is his money back?

That sure seemed to be the case yesterday in Bowles’ day-after presser.

Bowles was asked why fellow running back Bucky Irving got shelved late in favor of White. Irving only had two fourth-quarter touches.

Simply put, Bowles said, he thought White was the most dangerous back in the Bucs’ stable. Bowles added that of three skills he looks for in running backs, White has all three.

“He’s the bigger of the three, he’s probably the best pass protector of the three and he’s great out of the back field as well,” Bowles said. “At the time we were behind trying to catch up.

“We just left him in as the best option.”

It wasn’t like it was the wrong option. White (4.8) averaged just a hair below Irving (4.9) in yards per carry. And White took a pass to the house for an 18-yard catch-and-run.

He looked awfully smooth doing that.

Yeah, Irving is exciting when he’s in the game. But is Irving a better receiver out of the backfield than White? Joe would say no, though the stats say they’re equals. And is Irving a better pass blocker than White? Joe isn’t sure but Joe would lean to White.

Irving is a better runner but when you look at the total package and the way the Bucs were blowing open holes up front so wide that not even White could miss them, it appears Bowles trusted White more.

Joe doesn’t think Bowles or offensive coordinator Liam Coen was necessarily wrong with Sunday’s choice. If White was having a worse game running than Irving, then yeah, Irving should have been on the field more late.

Yea right Bowles has no eye for talent White should be 3rd string. Bucky is shifty and gets yards after the hit #44 is a bruiser like Alstott was but smaller. White is a strait a head runner who will either fall or fumble after first contact

  2. Baker Bowl Says:

At this point I think the best move is to attack it with all 3 like the coaches said. Truth is, none of them are really making a push to be the bell cow. We see flashes from everyone and I think Bucky has the most potential to fill that role. Watching his make defenders miss in open and tight spaces is exciting and not something you see from Rachaad to often.

Trading 1 hurts the depth, even if it is for another position of need, and it doesn’t seem like Licht or Bowles want to do that anyway.

I’m sick of talking about the offense as if it is the problem though. Cool, we have an average running back surplus and a lack of WR talent (I don’t share this opinion), but putting up 26 against the falcons should be enough for a win. Kirk Cousins is looking like an MVP candidate when playing Tampa.

  3. RBUC Says:

The Falcons defense is bad too so it really isn’t saying much! Sean Tucker playing on a regular basis and getting WAYYY more touches than he got in the Falcons game gives the Bucs more of an identity on offense. Just like the pass catchers production on this team people kill me when they say, this guy only got 12 yards all game HE’s TRASH! Well now that Mike & Chris aren’t playing if you throw guys the ball more they will get more production just like Cade did Sunday! Really thou watching every team in the NFC South is like watching Big 12 college football say Oklahoma St vs Texas Tech 68-65 pick whichever team you choose as the winner cause all that offensive production means nothing when they line up against solid football teams! THATS RACHAAD WHITE in a nutshell🫤🏈!!

  4. Bucsfan Says:

Bucky has a higher pass catch percentage than White , but only by a bit. Interesting that Rakim Jarrett led the WR’s in yardage and caught all 3 of his targets. Jarrett should receive a lot more targets based on his production. D is the issue with this team and it is very sad , because Baker is having a career year.
On a side note-Jameis Winston certainly sparked the Browns by beating a quality Ravens squad in his start.

  5. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I thought the use of the backs was very good last game. White is stellar catching the ball out of the backfield. He is very dangerous in the open field. His top end speed is higher than Irving as well. Bucky is very special with the handoffs and has smooth hands too. I think we’re fine with these guys just reduce the proportion of handoffs up the middle to White and we should be fine.

  6. oldtimer Says:

Bucky Irving has the cut back ability, speed and strength to be one of the best running backs to play in the NFL. His ability reminds me of a young Barry Sanders and the Bucs are foolish to not have him being the primary back on this team.

  7. BucVoyager Says:

Give the ball to your best players.

I’m not saying Bucky is Barry Sanders but he is electric. Even his 2 yard runs are exciting.

Using White as a 3rd down back is great because when the box is loaded, he is not very good in the run game.

  8. Bee Says:

By using all 3 sparringly how can anyone get into a rhythm? Bowles and his personnel decisions strike again. White isn’t the best runner tho and using Tucker at the end of the game to wear down the defense would be best.

  9. Jamesrunningwilder Says:

All three are dangerous. I wish they would use the pony package more. That being said, I would leave White on the field all game long and rotate Irving and Tucker in instead. Why? Well, I believe that White is Our Deebo Samuel. Deebo and White are identical in size and weight and have identical skill sets with White being more dangerous in my opinion. So I would leave White in the game and just move him around like the 49ers do with Deebo and use him as a threat while still taking advantage of the awesomeness of Irving and Tucker.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

White is a good RB and a great receiving back…we are fortunate to have 3 good backs…..there is really no controversy here…

  11. John Sinclear Says:

Boy, did I misread THAT headline. Thought it was about White giving his money back to Licht.

  12. unbelievable Says:

White’s RUSHING stats have been equal to or better than Irving in his past 4 starts.

We already know he’s better in the passing game.

With that said, I love Bucky. He definitely hits the hole harder and breaks more tackles. But facts are facts and data is data. People thinking White should be benched are just clueless.

It’s amazing how many people ignore facts in favor of their feelings. Explains a lot about this country…

  13. unbelievable Says:

Exactly tbbf. We’re lucky to have a 3 headed monster.

Coen just needs to keep using them, even when we get down a score. In the 2nd half against ATL, we pretty much stopped running the ball.

    ————————————————————————————

If he could play Tampa every week he’d be a 1st ballot Hall of Fame candidate.

  15. Nutterbuccer Says:

If the defense wasn’t so bad we could of Ran more and got tucker involved with less white. Easy as that.

  16. Leopold Stotch Says:

I want Tucker out there! How is it that he’s not being used more? He got player of the week. He has the talent. All 3 can catch. Chaad is the worst rusher.

  17. adam from ny Says:

just give tucker 15-20 carries on monday night…

kc isn’t expecting that at all…

    just do it…

maybe the young man will find a 3rd gear under the bright lights, as the world watches…

you have nothing to lose but a game…go for it

  18. chickster Says:

The bad years are coming seen this before.

  19. adam from ny Says:

between our running backs and baker, we have suffered mega turnovers in the 2nd quarter of the season….

i count 7 ints, and 2 running back fumbles that atlanta got in the 2 atlanta games…one from white, and one from bucky…

that must stop in kc or don’t even get on the plane…

    gotta protect the football

  20. BuckyBuc Says:

Irving looks like a young Barry Sanders

  21. Hodad Says:

Just because it was White that caught, and scored that TD, doesn’t mean Bucky, or Tucker wouldn’t have done the same had their number been called. That was a well blocked, well timed play, my guess whoever was out there would’ve scored, it happened to be White.

  22. Leopold Stotch Says:

Agreed Hodad. At this point, Buck and Tuck can do everything that White can, EXCEPT, they run better than him.

  23. Lightningvinny Says:

If we have money , we have a week to spend it ,,, talk to a bottom feeder team in the AFC and find a better than JTS edge , a better than Britt LB that has speed and can cover , get some guys healthy and make a run,,, It’s not brain surgery ,,, call Shaq call anyone

  24. MarkV Says:

Money back? I need my money back after that first possession fumble he gave up…

  25. ModHairKen Says:

    Erving fumble cost a game.

    White fumble cost a game.

    Defense failures caused every loss.

  26. Gipper Says:

    It’s Mayfield’s fault.

  27. GoneGator Says:

Of course RW will continue to be running back #1
I, and a few others, have been trying to tell you that forever.

Joe will slip his opinion in here and there (that RW Sucks so very much as a runner) but not as often as before since Rachaad has begun benefitting from Coen and the improved O-line.

The minions will continue to shout Joe’s right!
    Rachaad sucks! Bucky Bucky Bucky!
It won’t make any difference @ all

  28. Fred McNeil Says:

    Great! Now do it again

  29. Brandon Says:

I’ve always been a big White supporter but I will say that when he was out for a week, I think he saw how the other RBs attacked the line and ran through the hole with authority because since he’s been back, he has adopted a completely different running style. He’s scrapped the Leveon Bell wait and let things develop in favor of a more fearless and reckless style, thats the way the position should be played.

  30. bucfansince84 Says:

Another reason why he won’t be here next year.

  31. LOUBUCSFAN Says:

When’s the next poll Joe cause after what i seen Sunday afternoon, what shaky confidence i had in TB has wavered. Then reading the last few articles about the defense and no changes forthcoming, i have had enough!!!

  32. Rod Munch Says:

Bucky has looked great, but White is the better option overall as he’s just such a great receiver, and something you morons in the comments always overlook, White is an excellent pass protector. Also, when White gets blocking, he’s a very good runner.

But Bucky really does look special, and I’d have no issues with getting him the ball more. But don’t do that at the expense of White, do it by removing those token carries to Tucker, and using White more as a WR replacement. It’s been said in the comments before by others, but using White the way that the 49ers use Deebo would be amazing. White isn’t a pure WR so you’d need to be a bit more creative – I think he’d have issues getting off the line and in one-on-one coverage vs corners down the field – but in the short passing game, where Baker is very good, there’s no reason you can’t get White more touches there, while giving Bucky more touches out of the backfield.

  33. SenileSenior Says:

I would compare Bucky Irving to Warwick Dunn more than Barry Sanders. Sanders was truly elite and special.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Barry Sanders is literally the greatest RB to ever play the game.

Anyone comparing Bucky to him is just as stupid as the Baker Boi(s) claiming Mayfield is better than Mahomes.

Man, don’t be idiots. Bucky looks great so far, leave it at that. Don’t invoke first ballot GOAT HOFers as your comparison point for having some nice runs vs a bad defense. That is just retarded.

  35. Deadwood South Dakota Says:

So at this point we should believe what todd bowles says. I tell him to take a time out but he screw that up too

  36. SlyPirate Says:

    Not rocket science.
The run game was dominant with just Bucky and Tucker. It’s never been with White in the mix.

Not rocket science but not stupid simple either.

1 game against a beat down saints defense does not make a “dominant” run game.

Our offense loses a lot more with Rachaad White on the bench than it gains by having Tucker on the field.

I’d love to see Coen use all 3 effectively but he pointed out himself, earlier in the year, that it’s much more difficult to (plan to) use 3 backs than 2.

Pretty easy for y’all to throw out simplistic answers based on game to game performance. Pretty likely you’re wrong a large percentage of the time 🙄

  38. Tom Horn Says:

Fix the defense and you win games. If you score 30 points in a game and lose, we’ll guess what…it’s not the offense.
