NFL Owners, Commissioner Fail Fans On Antoine Winfield Goal Line Play

October 27th, 2024

Rough day for Team Glazer and NFL owners.

Joe won’t go too wild here without more clarification, but it was made very clear on today’s FOX broadcast of the Bucs-Falcons game that there was no goal-line replay available on the controversial touchdown by Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

Pitts got behind the Bucs defense for what appeared to be a sure touchdown, but Antoine Winfield was in pursuit and knocked the ball away. Officials signaled a touchdown.

But one replay looked like a clean Winfield strip that would have negated the TD. And the critical across-the-goal-line view from the pylons? It wasn’t available.

What??

How is it not mandatory for those cameras to be on for the entire game? Joe suspects security cameras that watch Team Glazer’s suite and cars are running all game.

Keeping those end zone cameras running must become a league rule. If it isn’t already, then it’s a horrible oversight by a bunch of intelligent billionaires.

The Winfield-Pitts video is below. It’s a tremendous play by Winfield, who sets a fantastic example of hustle for young players of any sport.

Joe thinks the Bucs got screwed on this play, but Joe is more embarrassed for NFL owners across the league unless this was some sort of unique camera malfunction.

We will never know very interesting there was no other angle lol!!!

  2. Mike Johnson Says:

We can’t make excuses. We had plenty of chances to win this game. Our Defense failed us miserably. I stopped watching the game after Atlanta went up 2 TD’s. Started watching a movie called, The Trap on HBO. I ws already knowin…All hope was lost.

  3. Josh Says:

Just another reason why everyone thinks the NFL is rigged crap like this Billion dollar industry but don’t have a camera there???

  4. SBucs Says:

Cream sickle Bucs get no respect. Todd ‘Swiss Cheese’ Bowles defense can’t cover a tight end. What’s new?

  5. Bayshore_bucs Says:

Does the nfl actually care ? Questionable calls lead to more engagement which translates to more dollars

  6. 407buc Says:

How is the pylon camera not turned on?What kind of bootleg sh** is that.Somebody should be fined over that .

  7. BucfaninMi Says:

Kind of cost them the game

  8. Pewter Power Says:

No it’s the Bucs fault for letting pitts slice through the defense like that. Can’t depend on refs how about depending on good defense Todd. Let’s get to the press conference and listen to the communication excuses again

  9. LongSeason Says:

Todd ‘Salley’ Bowles has to go.

  10. BucfaninMi Says:

Winfield did what he should do. Not give up. But yes it shouldn’t come down to that

  11. Buc4evr Says:

    Not a TD.

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Bucs had the 1st Falcons game won, then the refs not only don’t call a facemask, they make up a BS holding call pushing the Bucs out of FG range. That’s as rigged as it gets. If they make the call, the Bucs just run out the clock and the game is over. Even if they called offsetting, the Bucs are still in easy FG range and the game is over.

If that happens, it feels completely different right now, the Bucs are 5-3 even with the close loss today.

  13. Again Says:

The left foot is not across the line the hand is next to his leg. The ball is out. That is a touchback. Only two angles on the play. Typical NFL crapola

  14. orlbucfan Says:

Oh, like no sh!t. We fans need to own this team.

  15. FlBoy84 Says:

Don’t see this as making an excuse for the loss, as others above seem to think. He’s simply pointing out a glaringly sad issue where a multi-billion dollar industry can’t/won’t make goal cameras available & operational for the entire game in EVERY NFL stadium, as well as any other venue, where a meaningful NFL game is played. Made the same comment to a friend as well when it happened. Beyond ridiculous.

  16. Ds Says:

Not sure why the NFL wants the falcons to win so bad it’s crazy, that’s obviously a fumble

  17. Ed Says:

Drop Bowles, promote Coen, hire Saleh for defensive coordinator. We need a defensive coach that understands how to keep teams under 500 yards of total defense

  18. Miller5252 Says:

It wouldn’t have mattered. What stopped the Falcons today was penalty’s, fumble, missed kick and the 2 sacks. Bucs couldn’t stop them when it mattered most and let a guy who probably runs as slow as Brady get 13 yards. Last week Lamar made +15 yard plays all game. The D needs help and changes quick and both won’t be coming anytime this season. I still remember the podcast with Ira when Bowles said a D end with a lot of sacks might be bad for this team…. Gotta have those D ends that can play corner better then getting to the QB.

  19. RVATom Says:

I don’t give AF about this replay. We didn’t lose by a close margin. The defense is in a shambles. I defend Bowles. But enough is enough. All he needs is an average defense. And the D isn’t average. OR ATLANTA is a fabulous team. I don’t see exceptional play from ATL. I see decent play. If our D is average and makes an average amount of stops we win. We have an ABOVE average Offense and it’s being squandered by a substandard D.

  20. Mauler Says:

Don’t forget a Rachaad White run up the middle and a fumble leading to Radio-Raheem’s yungry touchdown

  21. Rod Munch Says:

I don’t know — I was listening to the radio when this happened so didn’t see the replay until now. I don’t know if there were more angles, but the two included here don’t look like it’s clear he fumbled before crossing the endzone line. Hell of an effort by Winfield, though.

  22. GP Says:

    Thanks Joe
Although I’m sure you already had it in the queue

  23. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

There was no way to reverse that call with the angles we saw. Conversely, if they called that a fumble there would have been no way to reverse that call. There was no “indisputable” evidence.
However, we’ve seen pylon cams tons of times. It makes no sense that camera was off.

  24. GP Says:

    RVATom Says
    Um, were you even watching?
We lost by less than that touchdown.

  25. heyjude Says:

Unbelievable that there is no end zone cameras. That was not a TD and they know it. Winfield did well.

  26. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Bad thing the ref was standing at the goal line looking right at the play, and you can still tell from the angle shown you can still tell the ball didn’t cross the plane. Unfortunately not enough to overturn the call.

    —————————–
Devoted Bucs fan here. The call was super close. The guy with the ball has to break the plane to score. He would have in the old days. The problem is the mental set of the Defense. It’s not good. Injuries? The usual ref crap? This is a very good team which is slowly rebuilding. The season is half over. So what about the NFCS title. When Bucs won their second SB title, the Aints won the Division. Bucs were the road team.

  28. Ed Says:

We are finally seeing a defense with players that are not trying hard enough to make plays to be around ball carriers and receivers. They don’t sack quarterbacks, the don’t make interceptions and every team that play has wide open windows for big plays. No accountability. We need some enforcers on the field to go to the coaching staff and have them bench loafers. I’d rather watch other teams rejects that want to make plays than these soft ass lazy defensive players. When Kirt Cousins converts a critical 3rd down with a 13 yard run and Robinson isn’t touched on a 4th quarter dump off we are seeing very very bad football. This isn’t going to change with this coaching and personnel.

  29. gotbbucs Says:

Only team in the league that doesn’t know how to defend Kyle Pitts.

  30. Biggun Says:

    WHERES TO PYLON CAM ANGLE????????

  31. Big Wally Says:

The ball fell straight down in the replay and landed in the end zone right below where his hand was.

  32. BigBucFan90 Says:

For the love of god can we just promote someone to the active roster to take Britts job smh

  33. JBBUCS_06 Says:

How about don’t let the TE who killed us 3 games ago run FREE AGAIN this game?!?! And we won’t need AW31 to make a miracle play.

  34. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Even if Primetime games are only allowed the special pylon cams. The league should know the importance, have a cameraperson stand there the whole time. Get the overhead camera around each endzone. Imagine only primetime NBA only having access to certain tech. Imagine when MLB goes to the robo ump that only primetime games do that.

  35. Saskbucs Says:

Embarrassing for the NFL. How do you not have a better angle. Game changing play. On a separate note I saw Whitehead loafing hard on a different TD. He needs to be better. We played some man D and Fundrburk and Merriweather got roasted. Just too many holes on D right now minus 3 of our top DBs, and having no pass rush.

  36. Jiminy Christmas Says:

I work the field broadcast most games. Sometimes I’m up in the announce booth at PB level by you Joes. Today I was right there on the goal line by parab operator. So I saw that it was another one of those game saving Winfield forced fumbles right before goal line. Anyways the pile on cams are not broadcast they are offical nfl replay. Today instead of normal chain gang for first down markers. They used the wireless chain markers that look like a pile on. I overheard them having issues with those cams because of the “wireless chain gang” Circuit breakers have also been tripping on the field ever since hurricane too. As fan that works these games I’ve always enjoyed your site and your perspective. Thanks Joe’s

  37. JTHV Says:

On a day where Bates III has a career game, Winfield gets jobbed.

The refs were on their knees most of the game blowing the NFL hierarchy script.

  38. Herbiebuc Says:

The whole idea that that was the only angle is a COMPLETE LIE! What about the angle after the extra point ! If you zoom in from that angle you should be able to clearly see the ball didn’t cross the plane. Yet again we get screwed !!

  39. Crickett Baker Says:

If it wasn’t a home game I would really be on the conspiracy train.

  40. itzok Says:

the pylon cameras should be mandatory at all times. there should be cameras in the goal posts cameras on the backline of the end zone. and on the first down chains.

  41. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

Crazy that they would have a known issue with pilon cameras vs the wireless markers, and not default to the manual chain gang if they couldn’t sort it out by game time. Total clown show.
