SirVocea Dennis’ possible return revealed.
Back when Bucs inside linebacker SirVocea Dennis got hurt, head coach Todd Bowles only mentioned how Dennis might be out a while.
Yesterday, Bowles cleared up his timeline.
It seems Dennis is out for the regular season and may only return if the Bucs go “deep” into the postseason, so Bowles noted yesterday.
Dennis’ rehab will “probably go deep into the playoffs, if not longer,” Bowles said. He added that Dennis had shoulder surgery.
“He had [a bum shoulder] since college and it was something he was playing with. When it got too bad and he kept hurting it every little bit and it got bad enough, we got surgery done. He would’ve had to get it fixed after the season whether he played or not.”
Joe doesn’t think it was a coincidence that when Dennis was lost for the season, the defense turned from OK to a sieve.
Dennis split time with K.J. Britt. Dennis was better in pass coverage and was surprisingly very physical tackling people, which is a welcome trait.
Dennis’ injury early in the win over Philadelphia left Britt as a full-time linebacker. It’s obvious he’s not a starting NFL linebacker. He has been exposed by several teams, especially Atlanta, the team the Bucs host on Sunday.

This is why I was pounding the table for one of these MLB to be drafted by us. A lot of depth available this year for a position we have no depth at… And we took none.

That’s concerning. You have to start with the question ‘Why did we even draft him?’ Then can move to the question ‘Why was he even playing with a bum shoulder that they knew would require surgery after the season?’

Ok – Kancey and Dennis seem to always be out injured. I’m starting a petition. “Don’t draft anymore Pitt guys unless their last name is Dorsett.”

It’s clear, we have a lot of shoring up to do in next year’s draft. One positive thing to come out of this year’s plethora of injuries is that our backups are getting a lot of valuable experience. Hopefully, that experience will improve their play as this season moves forward. I just hope we can put a W in the books this weekend and then we’ll see how things play out over the rest of the season.

Leopold, part of the rebuilding process. You only have so many draft picks and they are dependent on what talent is on the board. As impatient as some fans are we are still the second youngest team in the entire league. The Ravens showed us we have some rebuilding yet to do.

Have this hunch Joe that you’re solely comparing Dennis to Britt. Might make Dennis look good, but sorry, he’s not that good. In coverage he’s been targeted 11 times … with 10 completions allowed for a 90.9% Completions Allowed rate (he does have 1 PD in 4 games). Britt has been targeted 14 times … with 10 completions allowed (71.4%).
Reality is that NEITHER one of them is starting MLB caliber. Another reality BTW is that LVD is showing his age in coverage also (targeted 32 times with 27 completions allowed for 84.4%). That’s the highest of his career.

I thought Sirvocea had a lot of potential. Like him. Hope he does well in rehab and can come back healthy toward the end of the season.

Maybe it’s the strength & conditioning coaches & all of those coaches that might be the problem because sometimes some of their other players take awhile, too!

That explains his shoulder injury last season too. I wish he had surgery last year when he blew his hamstring so he’d be healthy this year.

Poor coaching and conditioning.. we will never get over the hump with bowles.. either his in game decisions or inability to do what’s best for the team not for the players..

If they don’t trust J.J. Russell enough to give him a shot, coming into the season with only one decent backup who has a bum shoulder was a pretty dumb move.

I think it’s worth experimenting with JTS at MLB. They both require stopping the run, playing the pass and rushing the passer. He may be more effective from another position. We have nothing to lose he’s a better athlete than Britt and could play any worse.

Joe you said Dennis is not a starting inside linebacker. Maybe not right now. But with more experience I think Dennis will be a good starting middle linebacker in this league. But him being out is just another part bad news for the once high expectations I had for this season. Unfortunately, it feels like this season may be over by the time we get to the bye week. Losing Evans, Godwin, Dennis and with still many others on the injured list right now and the lack of depth this team has behind many significant positions. And with management’s refusal add significant replacements during there absence. Here we go again, just like last season right around this time. We may looking for a new head coach this coming offseason as well. That sucks too. I hope Im wrong and the Bucs magically turn this season around.

So Dennis had a bad shoulder last year and instead of having surgery, he spent all those games on the bench developing great sitting skills. Excellent.

Curious what a bum shoulder means. Like others I’m concerned it’s been bas for that long. Depends on the nature.though. Id the labrum was just torn a little you don’t generally do anything about it. Just strengthen trh muscles aorund it. Doc believes I have a small tear in mine and was likely from a car accident 18 years ago or so. Strained it a few years ago and that’s what I was told. Doesn’t bother me often. Because I’m not an athlete and it doesn’t affect day to day no surgery. They vary by severity. So makes me wonder if it’s something like that which for worse

@Buc Voyager I was hoping for a trade, package 6th and 7th or something for a 5th, as of now Klein isn’t doing anything. He may be an all pro, right now, don’t know. Same with Kulp, but that’s a pipe dream. You do have a point tho…

Coach said Sir had it since college. Which means that they knew from the Combine because the NFL does a full medical on the players unless they refuse.
They probably thought it would be okay until it wasn’t, and he had to have surgery sooner than later. SirVocea is having rehab now which will be weeks, and then go from there. He could be back this season, it all depends. Wishing him a great recovery.

Dammit guys. The HITS..just keep on coming for us. One or 2 injuries are Ok. But now it seems the roster is falling apart. Bucs also announced our little RB scatterer Irving is injured too. When it rains, It pours. We may not have enough to beat the Falcons come Sunday. Just heard Raheem say they are fired up and ready.

@Chrisopher Schiefen – Devin is not a better linebacker than either of those players. Heck he had the same pff grade that KJ has right now. He never graded out as a LINEbacker as anything other than replaceable backup

Why didn’t Dennis have this surgery last year, when he barely played? If he had, he would have been healthy this year to be a full time starter and replace Britt permanently.

Todd Bowles is definitely not a head coach last week’s game was totally Out Of Reach why leave the starters in should be looking ahead to Atlanta especially Baltimore is non-conference non-division so what was the point a star receiver heard for no reason in a meaningless effort

The good news is that we don’t need anyone for the offense next year. We only need to place Trask under contract and continue to develop Pratt. We may want to use our 5th round pick on a backup offensive tackle. On defense, it appears by the end of this season we will need to draft LaVonte David’s replacement with pick 1. Dean replacement with pick 2 and Funder…
We can use our 3rd pick to replace Devin White, compete with JJ Russell, KJ Britt and Dennis for the second inside linebacker position.
We still have picks 4, 6 and 7 and we only need backups. The Godwin injury makes room for Culp and White to rotate into slot, while allowing Tuck and Buck to control the backfield. Additionally, we can bring back Jefferson as our bigger back or use Ko Kieft. When Evans leave Miller, Palmer, and McMillan will more than fill the void.
