Graham Barton Coming Along Nicely
October 27th, 2024It’s hard to get past the carnage of Monday night when the Crows curb-stomped the Bucs.
It’s hard to get past Mike Evans walking to the locker room. It’s difficult to forget Chris Godwin getting carted off. It’s awful trying not to remember the Bucs getting alley-beaten.
Well, one bright spot, if you can get past all of the above heartache, is the play of rookie center Graham Barton. After missing the slimy Saints game with an injury, Barton returned Monday and showed why he was a first round pick.
Brandon Thorn, who is something of an offensive line expert, Twittered out this week how well Barton is playing for a rookie.
“Graham Barton has largely been awesome since stepping onto the field in the preseason and was absolutely outstanding against the Ravens,” Thorn typed. “From pancaking [Travis] Jones multiple times to locking up Roquan [Smith] at the second level several times to properly handling games. Stud rookie center.”
Joe thinks the offensive line the past two or three weeks has played well. They are starting to round into form.
As long as the Bucs are able to keep their front five, and they stay healthy, offensive line is no longer a need in the draft for the foreseeable future.

Put him on defense. He might just be smart enough to explain what everyone’s assignment is on each play.

I think this team can be a Superbowl winner in the near future. I believe everything happens for a reason and just maybe the virtue of patience will ultimately propel this team through the draft and free agency to get us over the hump. This team has the makeup of a champion and one more off season of good drafting and resigning key players like Godwin will set the board for success. Go Bucs! Cheers to victory my friends!

That was fun to watch. I gotta say Joe, you posting videos like these and Baldys breakdowns, overall your site has really opened my eyes to appreciate line play. So thank you.

It didn’t seem like we got stomped so bad. The Ravens are a REALLY good team and we fought to the end and lost by only 10 points. We have a strong defense and if we can get it going we have a great chance to beat Atlanta this time.

The Ravens are a tier above every other team in the NFL, including the Chiefs. Jackson is going to be the MVP again. Derrick Henry is elite. Yet, I think this game may have ended differently if a couple of bad plays hadn’t bit us in the early going. If Evans had made that catch when he blew his hammy, if Baker hadn’t thrown that end zone interception, etc. etc. Our offense is solid. It’s the defense we have to worry about. Let’s see if Bowles can devise something effective against the Falcons. If not, this is going to be a long game with us on the losing end.

Kelce, best center of our generation retired, we drafted Barton. Beautiful.
Keeping Hainsey was smart. I was wrong. I like having him around.
Goedeke looked good but I’m worried about him. His eyes looked still concussed.
Otton is badass. But you saw he hard he gets crushed. He’s very small for a starting TE. He is a great #2 or #3 TE. But not a legit #1 TE. I hope we draft a big and fast TE next year.
When Keift comes in, we run. Defenses have figured that out.
Britt and Keift should only play special teams.
Whitehead looks hurt and slow. Time for Izien to start alongside Winfield.
Let Whitehead play dime package LB. Keep him in the box and on RBs and TEs ONLY. He’s a liability against wide receivers.
And did you see how smart Harbaugh was to rest Henry the whole first half.
It’s like video games. In the 2nd half, the defense is down to 70% speed and power. But Henry was still at 100% speed and power.
So Henry was playing against weakened and tired defenders in the 2nd half.
Brilliant coaching. Like his brother.
We need 6 and 7 offensive line formations.
Klein is nasty. Get him some snaps at RG.
Match was a former TE. Swing him outside Goedeke as a second RT.
Barton was a former LT. Hainsey can still play.
Let Wirfs play outside LT and Barton inside LT. And let Hainsey have some snaps at center.
Wirfs-Barton-Brederson-Hainsey-Klein-Goedeke- Mauch
And let Wirfs and Mauch be the “eligible receivers”
They are both fast and can catch. They can be included in some “trick” plays.

I think you’re going to see the Bucs offense still looks capable even without Evans and Godwin. The issue will be on defense where Bowles only scheme is heavy blitz with zone coverage. We’re going to get eat up again. Hopefully ownership is recognizing Licht has provided plenty of talent, Bowles simply isn’t a HC that’s going to get you double digit winning seasons on a consistent basis. His body of work shows he’s going to be what he’s always been….9-8….8-9.

The curb stomping started when the interceptions started
Bucs lost to Atlanta because of a fumble
Turnovers = losing . See Jaboo.
Cue: Mayfield’s play isn’t the issue….

@AlanBucsFan it hasn’t really been an issue, but I won’t argue he cost us that Ravens game with those 2 INTs. Poor decisions that swung the game big time.

@PSLBob – to your point, we were actually dominating them to start.
Everything when to chit when Evans went down. Touchdowns called back for BS holding, INTs, defensive lapses.
Shows how much him and Chris truly are the heart of this team.
