Extreme Roller Coaster For Zyon McCollum
October 22nd, 2024Every week this season Joe is impressed by third-year cornerback Zyon McCollum.
How bout that hustle tonight on Derrick Henry’s 82-yard run in the third quarter (video below)? McCollum came from the opposite side of the field to hunt down Henry. Meanwhile, the ESPN data gurus reported Henry was running 21.4 miles per hour.
When the all-22 game film is released, Bucs fans will love seeing that play, along with McCollum’s early recognition and anticipation that set up his fourth-quarter hit and fumble recovery.
McCollum has matured so much as a player.
However, he was beaten cleanly and deep for a 49-yard TD pass — Lamar Jackson to Rashod Bateman. McCollum appeared to mis-read some body movements or was flat out faked out by the fourth-year receiver.
Regardless, this was McCollum’s seventh start of the season after nine starts in relief of Jamel Dean and Carlton Davis last year. So the body of work is now 16 starts, and Joe thinks it’s been damn solid.
Joe needs something soothing on this horrid night.
THE KING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing soothing about losing Godwin for the year and Evans for multiple weeks.
Offense was the only thing keeping us in games. The defense is straight up trash outside of Zyon and Lavonte.

I thought they said Henry was clocked at 21.7 MPH ????
What I wanna know is how fast was Zyon clocked at to catch him š¤·š»āāļø..

he can’t do it alone…he needs dean out there with him…!
he’s still learning and growing as a player…and some rook out there with him is very problematic

I agree, Joe.
Zyon has really blossomed this year. He clearly worked on some things during the off-season and his level of play has taken a big step forward.
He’s not perfect; no player is.
But, it was a thing of beauty to watch him fly across the field to knock Derrick Henry out of bounds, and to watch him drag two Ravens 20 yards into the end zone.

I’ve said it before McCollum is the real deal. He got beat badly on that one play, but he’ll learn from it. The guy is going to become a shut-down CB in the years ahead.

On the long Bateman pass, McCollum was playing the outside route because he knew that he had inside/deep help with Whitehead. Whitehead’s job was to stop the long pass! Whitehead hasn’t lived up to our preseason expectations and has been a non-factor. Even Winfield is playing very average.
