Defense Continues To Implode

October 22nd, 2024

Joe is having trouble digesting how far the Bucs defense has fallen.

Tampa Bay’s defense entered tonight’s beatdown by the Ravens ranked 27th in yards allowed and 24th when it came to yards-per-carry allowed.

They’ll be scraping the bottom of the NFL barrel after the Ravens rumbled tonight for a ridiculous 281 yards rushing on only 17 carries.

Through the air? Lamar Jackson was unthreatened after the Ravens’ opening drive. Jackson finished 17-for-22 for 281 yards and five touchdowns. Both sacks he ate came on that first drive.

Joe can’t blame rookie cornerback Tyrek Funderburk filling in for Jamel Dean. He wasn’t the issue. And outside of Funderburk, the Bucs started all their top dogs on defense.

Joe already stripped Todd Bowles of his mastermind label after the Falcons debacle two weeks ago. Joe wrote that the Bucs defense is just way to inconsistent to call Bowles a “great” defensive guru.

At this point, Joe is speechless. The defense isn’t good, and it goes way beyond a couple of missed run fits.

    Bye Felicia!

  2. Bucsfan951 Says:

This is what happens when the defense/team is lead by a mentally weak individual. Todd’s ceiling as a hc is 9-8, at best.

I am all ears to anyone that thinks I am wrong.

  3. TB_MikeB Says:

Season is likely cooked without 14. Very much looking forward to black Monday now. He has to go. His defense does nothing well, as he is an absolute fool when it comes to decision making as the head guy.

  4. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Todd’s scheme ìs done for

  5. Tbbucs3 Says:

This defense is terrible….Im close to being on the fire Bowels bandwagon because of the defense, not because he can’t predict freak injuries…

  6. Bosch Says:

Bowles should fire himself as def coordinator. And if he doesn’t glazers should fire him for lack of accountability.

  7. Hearty Dikerson Says:

This fraud has absolutely no redeeming qualities. There is zero reason to keep him. Can’t stop the run, can’t stop the pass, can’t rush the QB. He’s been in charge of this defense for years and they o it get worse as time goes on.

Aside from terrible at Xs and Os, zero charisma, energy, leadership. Flush this turd immediately.

  8. Hunter's Crack Pipe Says:

Lamar Jackson was roasting the blitz all night. I was mad BEFORE we lost both of our wide receivers. At least in the Rams game in ’21, Bowles stopped blitzing in the 2nd half until that fateful play.

Tonight, he just kept bringing the blitz all night long now matter how many times he got scorched, and Lamar was loving it.

  9. Godlovesbucs Says:

The d has been the weak link in 2 of the 3 losses.

  10. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

As I posted previously the Bucs when they are up against a team with a good running QB that scores against them regularly have to play 4 down football from the beginning of the game once they’re inside the 50 & forgo their stupid field goals as they’re just trading 3 for 7.

  11. Pewter Power Says:

Bowles and Licht think they can win without a blitz? Teams come out second half and eats his defense alive. Defense is horrible just like bowles

  12. LakelandBuc Says:

At least they imploded against the BEST offense in the NFL

  13. Bucschamp Says:

the back to back sacks made todd overconfident. Little did he know ravens knew exactly howto bait him

  14. Will Says:

Joe I would love for you or anyone to ask him what is it going to take for him to give up play calling duties? That’s 2games in Prime time that his defense has let a QB torch them. Ravens are good no doubt but that defense is terrible and he’s had enough time to put his spin on it. There’s always some WIDE OPEN.

  15. ModHairKen Says:

    They will bounce back.

  16. IE Bucs Says:

Bowles needs to go mid-season, problem is that they got nobody on staff that can be an interim HC, except for maybe Tom Moore.

  17. Dave Pear Says:

Todd’s a genius! Defense rules! ROFL.

  18. Ted Says:

Unfortunately for Bowles, when you are a defensive coach and your defense is less than, the fingers can only be pointed at you. He has always been a poor head coach but now he has significant injuries to his two biggest offensive weapons. At full strength under Bowles, the ceiling was 10 wins. As the season plays out, we will see how good Cohen / Baker are.

  19. Bobby M. Says:

The defense is being exposed for what it is…….Bowles can’t scheme for anyone, he’s just going to blitz randomly hoping he gets a hot hand. It works 1 of every 4 games.

The offense is putting up numbers that any good DC would be thrilled with. I’ve been saying, Bucs management won’t be content with another 9-8 season, too much has been invested to win now. The league is geared for offense, it’s only a matter of time before we move on from Bowles and promote the OC.

  20. Mac Says:

Licht won’t fire him. We will watch Bowles waste the prime years of our best players and then when his contract is up in 2 years maybe move on and by then guys like Vea Evans Godwin David and many more will be either retired or past their prime. I just don’t get how he thinks he can win with Bowles. He has never once shown he can do it. His defense is out dated and gets exposed week after week after week!

  21. Buc2Blame Says:

Bowles is not HC material he’s a coordinator leader of 11 not 53

  22. Destinjohnny Says:

    We played the wrong defense
    Bad game planning

  23. JayBuc Says:

I’ve said this before: The super bowl run when everyone was calling Todd Bowles a Genius was against a KC offensive line that was down three starters and the other two were moved into new positions for the Super bowl. All of this was with a week or two of prep time for the big game. Imagine, Wirfs, Jenson and Smith had all gone down before the super bowl???? Brady would have been killed.

And before Joe and some of you say I’m not a true Bucs fan, it’s just the reality of it. Yes, Shaq ran wild and we won the super bowl. I was extremely happy. But I’m still a realist. We may have still won the Super Bowl if their OL was healthy (will never know) Bottom line: I have always thought Bowles was way overrated as a Defensive Guru. Just my humble opinion from a fan from the couch watching TV
