Ravens 41, Buccaneers 31

October 21st, 2024

With apologies to Zyon McCollum and Cade Otton, Joe feels comfortable saying the Bucs were not ready for prime time tonight.

But the Bucs have great leadership, Joe. Pfffft!

Tampa Bay’s defense was embarrassed after the Ravens’ opening drive. Baltimore scored on their next six possessions. Ballgame.

But the real kill shot for the Bucs came when Mike Evans dropped a first-quarter touchdown pass and then grabbed his bad hamstring in agony. Evans was lost and the Bucs looked lost as soon as Evans left the game.

It was as if Baker Mayfield was forced to play without his security blanket.

Mayfield proceeded to throw two ugly interceptions. One was in the end zone and he wasn’t even under pressure. The second also was a no-pressure throw by Mayfield.

As for the Bucs’ defense, Joe is nearly speechless. The run defense was deplorable and Lamar Jackson executed at will en route to five touchdown passes.

Joe appreciated that the Bucs did not roll over and scored 21 fourth-quarter points boosted by a great play by McCollum and a well-executed onside kick. But that will not soothe Joe one bit.

The Bucs just aren’t among the NFL’s elite. Thankfully, there’s still time to get there. But with a late, ugly and senseless injury to Chris Godwin, one could argue the season ended tonight.

Why do teams do this crap. Just take the L now this man is injured badly for a meaningless play.

  6. Miller5252 Says:

Bowles needs to be gone! We’ve watched him not call timeouts because he said the game was out of reach. Now when it’s out of reach Godwins playing and now out for the year. Great call coach!

  7. LVMYBUCS Says:

    Bowles has destroyed this team

  17. BucsFan81 Says:

Top 10 draft pick coming and new coach. Sucks the season is already over.

  18. Trask To The Future Says:

TODD BOWLES WILL DO ANYTHING TO NOT LET KYLE TRASK PLAY.

His need for Mayfield and the team’s purely GARBAGE TIME stats just cost Godwin his season.

    Bowles should absolutely be fired.

  19. Bucamania Says:

    All on Bowles.

    Horrible defense.

    Playing starters in meaningless time.

  20. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Speechless.

  22. JS Says:

Bowles just ended our season leaving godwin on the field in garbage time

also, evans never should have dressed tonight

  23. dumboldguy Says:

Bowles besides not knowing how to scheme defense if a blitz fails surrenders when the game is in question and takes risks once its out of reach.

I know he won’t, but he should be fired today and give the reigns to Cohen.

  24. Rover Says:

Good Riddance, Todd. You have truly outdone yourself.

  25. LVMYBUCS Says:

Godwin isnt coming back after this season he will go to a winning team watch especially if bowles still head coach

They ain’t making the playoffs now…can’t see it happening. Welcome to a preview of the Bucs without ME and CG fans…gonna be ugly for sure

  27. A Bucs Fan Says:

I am sick for CG14. His season and career maybe over. Looked like a compound fracture. It’s gonna take a couple years to plant on that leg again. Man, terrible, terrible break for such a great player.

  28. Simeon4HOF Says:

Heart broken for Chris. His wife bout to have a field day with bowls again, buckle up

    Season over.

  32. StormyInFl Says:

    Season is over.

    Fire Bowles.

  33. Alstott40 Says:

    Where’s that Bowles Confidence poll?

  34. 1#bucsfan Says:

Season isn’t over. I’m pissed like everyone but come on I’m not going to cry and say the season is over. Season isn’t even half way over yet. Still a lot of football. Might have lost Godwin for the year Evans walked away he’ll be back. Baker and the defense lost us this game. Can’t throw 2 terrible picks and overcome against the ravens

  35. BPBucsfan Says:

So much for the “vaunted” Bowles defense. Yes, he does need to go.

  36. LVMYBUCS Says:

Now watch what happens the next few games players are not gonna play hard for Bowles they know he is a lost cause.

  37. Buc4evr Says:

No confidence in Bowles whatsoever. I always have voted no confidence as he is not a very smart coach in terms of in game situations. Bucs are not good enough to compete with the better teams. Won’t change with Bowles in charge.

  38. ModHairKen Says:

Reminds me of when Jurevicius and Alstott went out at same time.

  39. LakelandBuc Says:

This is not a talented team. These fans are fooling themselves thinking this team has talent. They are a 500 team in the WEAKEST division in the history of the NFL.

    They don’t quit, that’s a good thing
They just don’t have much talent

  40. StormyInFl Says:

Someone should have gone for Roquan Smith’s knees. Dirty player.

  41. Chris Says:

    Go get Bill now!

  42. BucsBeast Says:

Welp Bowles seat from here on out is literally on fire.

  43. Will Says:

Announcers had just said something about getting guys out and then that happens. Godwin was having a HELL of a season. Hate for it to end like that for him.
Bowels’ Defense is just terrible. Ravens are a LEGIT Superbowl contender.

  44. Weebs10 Says:

Teams put players at risk like that because blogs like this would go crazy if Bowles “quit” with a minute and a half left in a pointless game. Heartbroken for Chris

  45. LVMYBUCS Says:

    @1# Wanna bet

  46. JustVisiting Says:

Funny, I don’t remember a bunch of posts calling to pull the starters +before+ Godwin was hurt. It’s easy to talk smack afterwards.

  47. Oxycondomns Says:

    bowles is an imbecile

  48. Weebs10 Says:

Meant to say 10 point game

  49. A Bucs Fan Says:

I can’t believe after everything he has been through he suffered another injury like that. I am in disbelief. Terrible… terrible.

  50. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Baker was clearly rattled by losing Mike. I’m giving him a pass overall. The loss and injuries are all on Bowles. I just can’t believe how quickly and completely this season just got flushed. The Bucs crashed out tonight.

  51. Mike S Says:

    No Evans, No Godwin…

    This team is in trouble.

  52. GJ Says:

Irrelevant now but when down 17, we should have kicked the extra point and got it to 16, but instead Bowles went for 2 and left us at down 17. We could have had the ball down 8 at the end. Surprised Troy and Buck didn’t call out that strategic error.

  53. Colin in Canada Says:

Everyone needs to chill out in here. Losing godwin sucks but the season isn’t over. If you want to leave leave. See ya

  54. Trask To The Future Says:

    BUT BUT BUT….

BAKER HAD 3TDs AND ALMOST 400 YARDS PASSING!!!!!!!!

    HE’S ELITE!!!!!!

  55. Miller5252 Says:

Might have lost Godwin for the year?!?! 1#Bucfan, your leg is t supposed to lay that direction bud. They wouldn’t even show the replay. Come on! Might have?!?! 🤣

  56. Saskbucs Says:

That Evans injury missed TD was the game. Now Godwin done, could be the season. Embarrassing performance by Bowles again.

  57. firethecannons Says:

So sorry to see Chris Godwin hurt, hope it is not career ending. Geez, defense allowed alotta points, I mean we scored 31 points that should be enough. There were some nice sacks and nice plays. ravens have a great team.

  58. Simeon4HOF Says:

    FIRE TODD BOWELS!

  59. Buc king Says:

This is a fire thr coach situation.
    1. Game was over ..Mayfield hits the side lime you played so and you forced horrible passes.
Godwin injury prone in junk time.
    2. You call the defense which has give up more yards in the air then I can count … we make all qb look like Tom Brady.
    Zyon only looking good

  60. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Should have stopped playing Evans after the 100th td.
Should have just taken the knee or handed ball off to end the game, they had zero chances of coming back. This was vs an AFC opponent not an NFC and not divisional so who cares. I feel so damn bad that Godwin is never going to see the true payday he deserved.

  61. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Should have protected Godwin at end when Evans hurt.

  62. BucsBeast Says:

    Bowles defense is HORRIBLE

  63. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Don’t even know if I wanna watch anymore this season it ain’t gonna matter

  64. orlbucfan Says:

Season won’t be over. Do the math: 10 games left. I am pissed. How do the fans protest bad calls by the refs? Is that possible? I’m talking about the hits on CG14 and especially Cade Otton. Who does it, the owners? The coaches? Who has the ear of the NFL?

  65. Simeon4HOF Says:

Hope baltimore’s #0 comes up missing

  66. Bucfan1988 Says:

Todd Bowles deserves to be fired For the situation with Godwin.

Two scores down with a minute and a half left and they’re keeping their starters in, Instead of pulling the starters out To prepare for the battle against Atlanta next weekend THAT REALLY MATTERS!!!!

Now you lose your top two receivers.

He should lose his job for this.

  67. Darren caputo Says:

Season feels like it over. Once again, bad decision making by the head coach. Once again, no defense. Goodwin out and evans out. Unless their is free agency pickups the seasons over. Maybe it is time to change the head coach. Bring on bellicheck. I am embarrassed on what they are bringing on the field. Defense is terrible. Corners. Baker like to try to throw open recievers. No timing throughs, like Brady. See you next year.

  68. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Trask read the room you idolator.

  69. Aaron Says:

Bucs need to pay Godwin anyway

You bring in your back up QB and hand off – get out of the game healthy and turn your attention to Atlanta

Evans probably shouldn’t have played either. Atl is the big game….feel so bad for Godwin…I’m sick to my stomach

  70. Usfbuc Says:

Announcers thought it was stupid, Bucs players thought it was stupid, Ravens players and coaches thought it was stupid, my wife who doesn’t understand football thought it was stupid to keep running plays and risking injury.

  71. Darren caputo Says:

Fire bowles when we go 6 and 11

  72. Jerseybuc Says:

Season over. Said it in the 3rd quarter to start pulling guys. What an embarrassing loss. To much talent to play like this enough with bowels

  73. Mr_Barf Says:

Bowles managed snap count for D fellas…left ur BEST & LAST good O player on the field for garbage stats..that’s how the leg breaks I guess

  74. Juju Says:

Man that S**KS. Sad for CG14, probably his last game as a Buc. Hope he comes back after he heals up, love the way that guy plays!

  75. ElioT Says:

    Toad Bowels is back.

He won’t take ownership over this.

I don’t want to hear from Baker either. He played a very bad game and was stringing dudes out all night.

    Season is over.

Got very lucky with injuries last year, this year we’re getting hammered and some are self-inflicted.

    Todd is done.

    Why!!!!???

  76. Bucsfantim Says:

Season might have ended tonight pending the status of Mkke Evans’ Hamstring

  77. Stan says Says:

This was all on Todd Bowles, why why why are the starters out there with under 2 minutes are you are down by 10. I am not or have ever been a coach other than peewee football. I do know the starters didn’t need to be playing. Come on Bowles you just cost the playing and fan the season. My heart goes out to Chris and Mike pray for them Chris will need lots of prays.

  78. Red86 Says:

Can’t blame the lost on Evan injury. Bucky Irving was wide open on the first pick. Otten on the short route was open on the second pick. Almost a third on the crazy Otten shoulder catch. Bet the Ravens won the time of possession, which impact the defense stamina.

  79. LakelandBuc Says:

Why everyone is blaming Todd Bowles for a team that lack talent

    Lol

  80. Nick Says:

This was a perfect summary of an embarrassing game. Bowles had no answer. Screened to death, over and over again.

  81. lambchop Says:

It is hard to see the exact injury with so many moving parts. But, is it a broken ankle for Chris? It looks like Roquon’s weight landed on the ankle?

  82. Darren caputo Says:

When we lose to atlanta next . Seasons is over.

  83. Clay day Says:

FIRE BOWLES! Such a terrible coach.

  84. Orange Republic Says:

I really, really liked this team, but its hard to imagine them competitive after losing Evans and Godwin. As Coach Bowles said, no depth on this team and we’re going to learn how little shortly. Such a shame. So much was working this year. At least Coach Coen won’t be coaching the Saints next season!!

  85. Please Says:

Really sad for Godwin and Bucs fans. He seemed to be one of the good guys.

Lot of questionable decisions in this game.

  86. BucNasty Says:

Any excuse to have Godwin in at this point in a losing effort is unacceptable. We are screwed. Done. Stick a fork in it, let it rest. What an absolute f’ing shame. Gutted

  87. ElioT Says:

Same guy who conceded the loss to the Lions in the divisional.

    Fireable offense.

You don’t come back from this.

  88. Farmer Says:

I just missed on a £2000 payout due to needing a Lamar Jackson anytime TD, Lamar Jackson rushing for 1 more yard and Chris Godwin getting over 73.5 recieving yards. All things which DID happen but got negated due to phantom holding calls…..words cannot describe my fury right now.

  89. Darth Revan Says:

The f$*#&># season is not over. Stop with all your fatalistic bs. They’re grown men playing a man’s game. I’m just as upset over Godwin, but we will keep fighting to the end. All teams lose key players. It’s how we rise to meet the adversity that will be a testament to our team. I pray for Chris and his healthy return. Stop blaming and support the team we have.

  90. Greg Says:

I am sorry but this is unconscionable. I am done with Bowles. Here you have Tucker running at almost 6 yards a carry and he’s running white tho did get 4 a carry but still.

His defensive play calling has become more and more suspect. Defensive ends running to go into coverage with their backs to Lamar Jackson? It’s just turning into a horror show.

And now Evans and Goodwin are gone (one or both forever). With whatever has gotten into Mayfields head- he didn’t throw a good ball all night long. I think that’s it.

  91. A Bucs Fan Says:

@lambchop – the way his foot was facing looked like a tibia and fibia fracture with a possible ankle dislocation.

  92. Stan says Says:

Lakelandbuc says: why blame Todd Bowles he the coach that put players in bad position so they can make plays. Really dude that’s a asinine question.

  93. Trask To The Future Says:

Bowles wasn’t about to let Trask play and pull Godwin and many of the other starters.

    SO DUMB!

  94. IrishTony Says:

How is the season over? If it is then I can cancel my stupid NFL ticket and save myself some dough.

  95. Hodad Says:

This was inexcusable. With a big game coming up on a short week, Todd causes Godwin to be lost for the season. For what? This game was over at halftime. Someone should’ve told Todd. Even after Godwin is carted off, he has Baker still throwing it. So pissed. Backups should’ve ended this game.

  96. A Bucs Fan Says:

    Fibula* Typing too fast.

  97. Saskbucs Says:

I take back season being over. Shouldn’t be but depends on Evans. If Evans isn’t 100% after the bye and we can’t steal one next 3 weeks it’s trouble.

Evans healthy with Shepard in the slot and McMillan Palmer getting more snaps … can work with our RB game.

  98. ReturnGrudenToRing Says:

Toilet Bowles has proven time and time again that not only is he not a defensive “guru” by any stretch of the imagination he is a barely “500” coach, also proven. Now after this debacle if he is not fired then you know that he is in fact a DEI hire.

  99. NJBucs Says:

Mike should not have played in this game and main starters taken out after the failed onside kick let it go. This is not a smart coach.

  100. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Hey Farmer, go f yourself. Nobody cares about your idiotic parlay. We Buc fans just potentially lost our starting WRs for the season and you’re birding about Lamar not getting another TD? F’king dipsh1t

  101. Red86 Says:

Yea. I with firing Todd Bowles. That’s really dumb. If Mayfield was talking him and others to not give up, then you should tell him to sit and shut up. That’s should’ve never happened.

  102. Capt.Tim Says:

The Mike Evan’s drop, then taking away Godwins TD in the end zone just took all the momentum out of the team.
If they hadn’t kept trying , everyone screams. If they keep trying and Godwin gets hurt- everyone screams. A Coach can’t win.

Mayfield had a QB rating of 97.8. He’s not the problem. 31 points should be enough to win the game- especially a team that is supposed to be a defense first team.

Our defense was too bad to win an NFL game tonight.

Palmer and McMillian aren’t good enough to be our two WRs. Licht will have to sign a WR.

Love that we are finally getting a running game
White averaged 4 ypc. Irving 2.6 ypc. Still an improvement for this team

  103. Usfbuc Says:

@Colin – I’m not sure if you really understand the impact of losing ME and CG. Just losing ME changed how the Ravens defended us. ME is our deep threat most plays he is getting the attention of the best CB the other team has and sometimes he is taking a safety out of the play too. This creates space and gaps as those players follow him. With him out, that brings the safeties closer to the line. This makes it easier for them to now defend the run and shorter passes. Now we have potentially lost CG for the season. They don’t immobilize your leg for a sprain. I like your optimism but you don’t just replace two of the best WRs in the NFL.

  104. lambchop Says:

    @A Bucs Fan,

Holy shi! Compound fracture. My goodness. Todd Bowles is an idiot.

  105. Danfan Says:

Terrible game for Baker, couldn’t execute when the game was there to be won (or at least stay in touch), and only looked decent when the ravens took the foot of the pedal. Without Evans and Godwin, its season over folks

  106. lambchop Says:

    * used compound in the wrong context here (hopefully)

  107. JS Says:

    Evans should not have dressed
    Godwin should have been pulled
Baker cannot make that throw in the end zone

  108. Citrus County Says:

It just isn’t worth it to me anymore. There will be no more attempts at rationalization. What’s the old saying ? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. There are far more rewarding and entertaining things in life than Bucs football. In the weeks to come the Bucs will become meaningless to many of us.

  109. Bucsalltheway Says:

We are cursed going against the ravens from chria simms spleen to Shaq barretts Achilles and now evans and godwin we in TROUBLE. McMillan is not ready for a full time starter role expect alot of sterling Shepard and maybe throw in Ryan Miller

  110. orlbucfan Says:

There are 10 games left in the season. So, it’s not over. This is a young team that is maturing. Falcons are in for it next week. Bucs will be watching film This one will bug the ones reviewing their mistakes. Then it’s Atlanta at RJS. The original uniforms and logo will be worn.

  111. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

    Capt. Tim……..you are correct.

  112. Rod Munch Says:

Why is Britt still on this team? How many big plays is that piece of garbage player going to give up before they finally send him to the unemployment line?

  113. Cobraboy Says:

Bucs are good, but not elite.

I predicted a loss like the Crows delivered.

The Crows are the best team in the NFL today.

  114. Capt.Tim Says:

Baker threw 4 TDs that were either dropped, or taken away by a questionable call by the refs.

The offense should have won the game.

  115. Ed Says:

This game proved what Joe has been saying, without an elite edge rusher you get the nightmare scenario where Jackson breaks contain and breaks the back of the defense by running for easy first downs. Bowles defense has to have a JPP and healthy Barrett to harass a guy like Jackson.

The Bucs defense has given up 500 yards now twice so it goes to show that paying a guy like Winfield crazy money without a pass rush doesn’t do anything to stop good passers like Cousins and Jackson.

  116. Itzok Says:

Just witnessed this seasons “Red Wedding” There is no coming back from this beat down

  117. BucU Says:

Todd Bowles has made me indifferent to this team now. Don’t really care about the rest of the season. Win the South. Lose the South. Who gives a F?

  118. Nope Says:

Typical Baker Mayfield. Throwing to the wrong team when it matters, gets people hurt late trying to pad his stats with garbage yards.

  119. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The whiners on this here website is outright ridiculous, especially the ones you never see post. This loss and Godwins lost for the season isn’t squarely on Bowels but it does sit there. A good part of it rests on Mayfields because he went into possum mode real fast. That 1st int isn’t purely his fault because the receiver saw the defender right in front of him and he LET him catch it instead of interfering which he has always been taught to do. OPI would still have given us another shot at the end zone and at least a field goal. The 2nd one Shephard had a step on his man but in stead Mayfield zeroed in on his favorite forced it into double coverage which turned into triple because the players knew better.

I can’t stand Bowles as much as the rest of yous but he can’t catch a break. If he’d laid down and without fight you clowns then would’ve cried he quit on the team that you fight to the bitter end! Godwin injury isn’t on him either because players year ACLs just from walking back to the huddle or no contact in practice. It’s football buttercups get over your Karen knee jersey reactions. You best believe Godwin didn’t think that after the onside recovery

  120. D-Rok Says:

Eeeks. Bad loss in many ways. Bucs were not competitive. Eeeks.
