Ben Bredeson: 277 Yards Rushing A Sign Offensive Line Is Beginning To Gel
October 21st, 2024Before opening day, Joe typed and mentioned feeling the Bucs’ offensive line would play much better around Thanksgiving than it would early in the season because it takes time for a line to get on the same page and be in complete synch.
Even Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs told Joe in training camp that it takes time for a line to get on track. When you combine a new offensive system with a new offensive line coach and two new starters, it won’t happen overnight.
Last week when the Bucs ran for 277 yards, it seemed like the line was beginning to turn the corner. That it was a sign everyone is in lockstep.
Joe spoke with left guard Ben Bredeson last week and he didn’t disagree.
“I think so,” Bredeson said of the offensive line round into order. “I think we’ve been able to get a lot of reps together through training camp and these first few games. Yeah, I felt like the cohesion [against the slimy Saints] went very well.
“We had great communication. We had good fits on our blocks. Young guys were playing hard. Backs were hitting the holes hard and making good cuts.”
The 277 yards rushing was a number Bredeson liked.
“It was a great day of work for us,” Bredeson said. “Those are the results you want on a game day.”

Certainly, it worked quite well last week. Just remember what happened to New Orleans on Thursday. After giving up over 200 yards rushing to the Bucs, the Saints gave over 200 yards rushing to the Broncos.
My opinion is our offensive line is still far away from the level of the Detroit Lions and more likely that rushing attack was an aberration based upon the weakness of the Saints defense. Dennis Allen is getting fired.

Whatever they in the run game DO NOT run at Travis Jones or Michael Pierce. Both 6 foot over 335lbs. Pierce is 360. Off tackle is their best bet all night.

Doesn’t matter how bad the team was defensively 277 is A LOT.
Bo Nix had 10 runs for 75 yds too.
Not the same AT ALL.

After watching the Broncos put up similar numbers against the Aints, it’s clear that the Aints DL is quadriplegic and can’s stop a snail from gaining 5 yards. They’ve given up over 500 yards rushing in back to back games. When was the last time that happened to any team?
Running for 125 against the Ravens would be very solid performance.

@BillyBucco.
Ok with you seeing it differently. Fair enough.
I think my bigger point is that I am not sure that the Bucs run blocking offensive line is better than average after 1 superior game.
My superior run blocking offensive line is the Lions. I hope the Bucs get there.
Taking out receiver and QB stats for Denver and Tampa against New Orleans we get:
Bucs 28 carries for 217 yards for an average of 7.75.
Broncos 23 carries for 152 yards for an average of 6.61.
Both teams running back/OLines were feasting against the lowly Saints.

Prove it.

Throw to the backs in the flat, or screen plays, early in the game. If the heat bothers the Ravens, try more runs in Q4.

Our run game is still dependant on creativity.
The line has looked great @ times but we aren’t a dominant wide zone run team like Liam might have hoped for coming from McVay’s system.
The good news is Liam has shown a willingness to adapt our style to our personnel. Canales never did that with the run game.
O-line play in general has been steadily improving ! We have some Dawgs and our depth is getting some battle testing now that could be valuable later in the year.
O-Line play is currently far from the top of the list of things to be concerned about but could change 🤣

Robert Hainsey deserves a lot of the credit. He open up big time holes in the middle. Big enough to drive a tractor trailer through..

Coen needs to get creative as in QB rollout options to either one of the running backs or Ungodly CG14 (I hope he spares him as Chris is too valuable elsewhere). He has the Offense to do it, and it sounds like everyone ‘cept White and ME13 is healthy. I don’t know how healthy BM is, but a trick play where one of the guys throws the ball back to him, and he launches it down the field would drive the Ravens NUTTS! The Bucs have the guys to do this stuff, so do it! Give our Defense a break!

Im a hopeful sceptic. The Saints stink. Last time we played the Ravens they owned the LOS, they dug Devin Whites grave. I would love to see the Bucs run the Ravens the way they did the Saints.

Definitely sounds like the communication between players on offense and defense was established and hopefully that continues as a trend with positive results

The O-line has to not embarrass itself tonight. Run a little and for God’s sake protect Baker. If we can sustain some drives passing it will be a respectable game with a chance to win. Let the Ravens dominate the LOS and go to bed early. D-line has to make up for Britt and safeties have to cover for him. All about coaching.
