The Savvy Of Liam Coen

October 21st, 2024

Creative.

Yesterday Joe offered a video in which three former NFL players broke down the Bucs offense. They seemed to like the scheme.

So too does Darius Butler. The long-time Colts defensive back is a regular on Pat McAfee’s show and last week he made an appearance on NFL Matchup, which is a wonderful show mainly because it is co-hosted by legendary NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell.

Butler really likes how Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen doesn’t only scheme up ways to get Mike Evans and Chris Godwin open, and he also likes how Coen crafts plays to give Baker Mayfield freedom.

Of course, it is easy to have freedom when you are throwing to Evans and Godwin.

Butler broke down a few Bucs big plays this season and basically says the opposing defense is hung out to dry by a combination of Coen’s play-crafting, Evans and Godwin’s talents and Mayfield’s decision-making.

Enjoy!

Excellent. People are also giving props to the Bucs running game.

Not Todd’s pass defense, though. Lots of jokes about that going around.

    Nice Breakdown

  3. Hodad Says:

Be nice if Coen stays a couple of years as O.C. to hone his craft, then takes over for Todd.

    Wonderful show?

    Joe is in vacation?

    Intern fumble!

Statistically, the Ravens’ pass defense is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine. Hopefully tonight they don’t figure out that whole “defending the pass” thing.

But really both fan bases love to whine about their coaches when it comes to pass defense. Never mind the fact that both teams are focusing on the stopping the run and the bend, don’t break on their pass defenses.

Let’s hope as the Bucs get back more defensive players week to week that when it comes to points, they end up way better than average like they did last year.

Given accumulation of rule changes, offense is more important than defense. Can’t keep turning the offense coaching staff over. Offer Coen shared HC duties next season or two at the most, nice way for him to learn the ropes without too much pressure or worrying about career path then the much much older Bowles hands the whole thing over to Coen and glides into the sunset. Assuming he stays healthy, having Baker at this point in his career, we are in the best LT position at the QB position in the team’s history. And we have the same type of situation on the NFC South that TB12 and the Pars enjoyed for years in the AFC East. So we need to keep the offense together and build on its strengths and try for another Lombardi

Mr. Pear, could you kindly extract that worm of negativity from your fruit for one day? The Bucs aren’t 0-6. Were you a fan back in the actual Bucs Dark Ages? I sure hope Coen stays for at least another season just so Tampa Bay can knock off the coaching Merry-go-round for a spell. Coen’s Offense vs. Ravens pass Defense. Enjoyed the video, Joe. That’s the one drawback to being a Bucs Radio fan. I have to visualize the game while the boys describe it. But, no matter. I still like Radio better. C’mon, Tampa Bay, how about a Cardiac Bucs upset win?!

    I think Coen will stay.

I bet other owners are looking at Carolina and seeing what a 1 year OC – now head coach can do.

Don’t think any owner will repeat that.

Watching non Bucs NFL football yesterday it was so odd seeing DB’s actually close to the receivers they were covering, their coaches putting them in position to contest passes, knock passes away and actually intercept passes.

I was hoping Todd Blows was watching

  13. Kenton Smith Says:

Pretty sure I saw us pick a couple of passes just last week FNG. If Vea and Winfield are healthy it’s gonna help. Stop that freight train of a run game and execute on offense we should be right in the middle of this game. I’m with DR – look for a high scoring game and I’m picking our team. But by all means keep disrespecting them, that’ll be just fine.

Maybe a pass or three beyond 15 yards will help those crossing routes

We’ve been calling plays based on what defenses have been giving… Hoping, and expecting, a few more shots down field tonight.

Bet that we’ve got the plays in our arsenal, just hasn’t been the right time/opportunity yet !
