Todd Bowles’ Ignore-The-Media Message
October 19th, 2024Todd Bowles likes to say his team doesn’t pay attention to media noise.
So it’s interesting to watch behind the scenes at One Buc Palace and see Bowles coach up his team on how to listen to media but ignore it at the same time.
The Buccaneers’ In The Current cameras and microphones focused on Bowles lecturing his team on their media approach after jumping out to a 2-0 record that included a huge win in Detroit.
“We’ve won two games. The same people that are complimenting you are the people that put you down,” Bowles said.
“Supposed to be last place last year, not supposed to win the division this year — they get paid to talk about you. Whether it’s good or bad, they’re going to talk about you. You can’t take the bait.
“You can’t take the bait, guys. We’ve won two games, which is great, it’s great acknowledgement. Alright, you can nod your head, but our standard’s got to be our standard. It can’t be anything else. … We got to get better every week.”
Bowles was heard telling players they plays hard and do good things but are so far from being a finished product. And he implored the team not to get mad when criticized — and not to react when good things are said.
“You don’t judge your life by letting other people live it,” Bowles said. “You judge your life by what you do. You judge this team by what we’re doing here. That’s what’s going to get us over the hump.”
Joe appreciates Bowles’ approach, though Joe can’t say it’s good or bad.
However, Joe is certain it’s a big reason red-hot Baker Mayfield hasn’t done a significant media interview in a while. Mayfield certainly is in demand. And no, Joe doesn’t Mayfield’s short chat with Gerald McCoy on NFL Network.

Todd Bowles’ Ignore-The-Media Message
Yea he ignores the media and apparently every stat that shows white is only a 3rd down back.

I heard he has made a commercial deal with Bud Light.

I don’t recall seeing a pic with Todd smiling.
@Joe I love your blog and admire your journalism and I respect your opinion even when I disagree.
I also respect your need to “protect” your investment from the wrong links or defamation of your sponsors.
So if this question is impertinent or risks sources I get it. No answer. But given how successful your blog is at attracting eyeballs I’m curious as to how many players, coaches, owners, and others, like training staff, read JBF.
Intuitively it would seem a bunch but then they are very busy guys so perhaps I’m mistaken. Do you get feedback when players are unhappy with either your or posters opinions? Does Todd ever hear second hand about fans opinions or does he largely just stay very busy and tune out all the noise?

Well, Joe has never taken a poll. A fairer question would be, “Who doesn’t read JoeBucsFan.com?”
October 19th, 2024 at 10:23 pm
Good god I hope players don’t read JBF! Seriously!

Well played Joe!

That approach obviously had the team fired up against Denver.
Oh, wait.

He should have them watch the In the Current with John Lynch to fire them up!

The media have more than earned the disdain of the masses Joe. To include Bowles and all Bucs players past and present.
The amount of disrespect piled on our guys over the years can’t be overstated! Ignore… but “To thine own self be true.”
Go Bucs!

Love “In the Current.” The video is awesome viewing.
So true, “Baker is no longer a passenger, he is a partner, and the coolest QB in the league.” Love the comradery Baker has with Coen, Evans, Godwin, and the rest of the team. Baker said “Never an individual effort.” He is humbly tough. Todd had some real good words at the end that are so true. And he keeps receipts too.
We believe!

All those folks who said it was Bowles fault that they cr*p the bed against Denver should read this article.
Coach warned his players.
October 20th, 2024 at 7:32 am
Yeah! Then they go out an get thumped by Denver! I guess most of the players were on their devices reading about how great they were…lol

The players who fell flat against Denver included first and second year players. Where we are in December will say much about our coaches. Right now we are headed in a good direction.
Go Bucs! Win or lose I love ya!

Bowles is not just a good coach; he’s got basic common sense. No wonder the locker room loves and highly respects him. Me, too, as a devoted, long time fan. Go Bucs!!

Some people can do a complex multi faceted job and make it look easy. Those types of people are generally successful. Being the head football coach of the Bucs is no easy job. But Todd Bowles makes it look easy.

@ Joe, that answer would likely be Mike Glennon’s family, anymore anyway lmao

Unfortunately the players weren’t the only ones who fell flat against Denver, Detroit and Atlanta, something that has been relevant since Bowles took over and that is the incredibly slow implementation of in game adjustments on all facets of the game. It’s surprising Baker was able to play after the Detroit and Denver games when they wouldn’t give the OL help on the right side and the Atlanta game when they refused to do something about the middle of the field slaughter house that was our defense and many other games the last two seasons. Players shouldn’t believe the media hype or blasting??? Coaches should look at themselves in the mirror and admit their arrogance believing they’re system doesn’t need to be re evaluated. Bowles biggest is thinking he doesn’t need a good edge rush that his exotic blitzes are all he needs even though they only work against rookies.Their inability to make adjustments quickly enough has cost us close games and will future ones as well.

I would love to see kancy & vita Vea in the backfield as running backs on short yardage downs, could you imagine 1 opening up a hole for the other?. Or one just bowling over defenders while crossing the goal line ?
