Chris Godwin Discusses The Not-So Secret To Bucs’ Success

October 20th, 2024

Explains high-scoring offense.

Take away one galling, choking, Code Turtle-ordered loss, and the Bucs would easily be one of the NFL’s elite teams at 5-1.

Already one could argue the Bucs are there. They are tied with the Commandos for most points scored and have the league’s best touchdown-throwing quarterback, Baker Mayfield.

So why are the Bucs quite possibly a better team this year than the team that won the NFC South the past three seasons? Chris Godwin has his take.

Appearing on “The Insiders” on NFL Network, Godwin said even though the Bucs have a new offensive scheme, the offense playing with Baker Mayfield for the second year has enabled it to elevate.

“Honestly, I just think [it is] our second year of working together,” Godwin said. “I think we have gone through some highs and some lows in terms of, what each other are looking for.

“I think we have a good connection going. But that [comes] with a lot of hard work and a lot of time put in.”

Godwin is being too modest. He is one of the NFL’s top receivers this year because Liam Coen was smart enough to allow Godwin to excel at where he does best full-time. That is the slot position.

It’s fair to say Godwin is healthier this year. But Joe thinks Godwin’s move back to slot full-time is a key reason he is blowing up like the Godwin fans saw with Bucco Bruce Arians calling the shots.

2 key points there Joe you hit on. Godwin being fully healthy and him being back in the slot. I can’t think of a better slot receiver than Godwin and I don’t mean just this year and when Bucco Bruce had him there to. He might just be one of the best to play the position. He doesn’t just run good routes and has good hands he’s a beast of a blocker too

Godwin is earning himself a nice contract with the Bucs. He ain’t going nowhere, but here. Licht will get that done.

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

We have several handfuls of awfully impressive players with extraordinary talent and mental toughness. None more so than Chris Godwin. We’ll lose a few more games this season. But not many.

What a great guy! Didn’t realize he was such an animal lover. His and his wife’s foundation is doing some really good work. I was debating apparel for tomorrow night. After watching that interview, I’ll definitely wear his jersey.

Nice to see some amity among JBF posters. Winning heals wounds. Wish some of the trolls would just dry up and blow away, though.🙏👏🏼😁

    Go Bucs!!

Godwin is too modest to blow his own horn and too smart to throw Canales under the Bus. The NFL is a relatively small group and no need to hack anybody off.

Ungodly off and on the field. CG14 sure doesn’t sound like a guy planning on moving on. Go Bucs and Ungodly CG14!!

That’s really cool about his foundation.

I’ve rescued my last 2 dogs and will continue to do so the rest of my life. So many pups out there that need a good home.

  10. GoneGator Says:

    Toughness and Best hands around.

Chris Godwin has not dropped a 4th quarter target since Week 1 of 2021 (105 straight targets) 🤯

    Agree with everyone else.

We’re truly blessed to have Chris. And Mike and Baker.
