Chris Godwin Thinks Bucs Need To Play Better

October 19th, 2024

Chris Godwin is not looking ahead.

Chris Godwin is on pace for his best season since he was drafted in 2017. And what a time; he’s in a contract year.

Joe understands drops are really, really subjective. One man’s drop is another man’s uncatchable ball. For example, drops is not an official NFL stat. So drop stats are all over the map.

So if you trust drop stats and the PFF tribe, then few if any receivers have better hands in crunch time than Godwin. Per the PFF tribe, Godwin hasn’t dropped a pass in the fourth quarter since Week 1 of 2021. That’s insane.

It also makes it even more insane to see how the Bucs at Atlanta decided not to give the ball to their proven, clutch players late, which proved to blow up in their faces in a galling choke job.

That decision, Code Turtle, still p!sses Joe off.

Godwin yesterday appeared on “The Insiders,” seen weekdays on NFL Network. There, appearing with Mike Garafolo and Judy Battista, Ira’s friend Battista asked Godwin about the next four games on the schedule. She referred to the next month’s worth of games as “make or break” for the season.

Godwin wouldn’t go there, specifically because he has spent little to no time studying the schedule beyond Baltimore, which the Bucs play Monday night.

In short, Godwin said the Bucs aren’t good enough to start looking ahead at their future opponents.

“We are still trying to put together four great quarters of football, which we haven’t done yet,” Godwin said.

Joe can’t fully buy that. Wasn’t the win over Philadelphia a rout? If one is to nitpick, perhaps the Bucs didn’t play great in a win over Washington.

But yeah, in the win over the slimy Saints, the second quarter was nightmarish.

So will Godwin have his best season? He might. But as long as he continues to ball out like he has been, Joe thinks the Bucs are in good shape.

Code Turtle still pisses Lt. Dan off too.!

That makes three for me. That Thursday night’s game was lost to coaching but I think they learned a lesson from it hopefully the gas pedal is to the metal the rest of the season LFG Buc’s

CG might have a 200 yard night Monday.

  4. Marky Mark Says:

I think they relax against what they think are bad teams and come out strong against top teams. Parity is built into the NFL so any team can beat any team any given Sunday or monday or Thursday or Saturday

Chris is right on point about needing four great quarters. I love when they get the lead really early, but then after half time it sometimes gets lost. Optimistically, it does sound like Chris and the rest of the team know what they need to do about it too. Go Bucs! 🏈

    I agree with Godwin.

  7. Permanently Moderated Says:

A complete game would be a sight to behold.

  8. SenileSenior Says:

This week against the Ravens would be a good time for the team to have four good quarters. Every week there are players who have their lapses. Please, guys, not this week.

    Go Bucs!

I think Code Turtle pisses off every Buc fan. We’d be a game ahead of Atlanta in the Division and holding the tie breaker. Yeah that sucks. Atlanta didn’t win that game. The Bucs lost it!

You hit the nail on the head. It is all by design so that it can be manipulated.

The great “code turtle” returns…. Like the Loch Ness monster and Bigfoot before, many intrepid gossipers continue to insist it exists, regardless of its proponents failure to put forth ANY evidence that ANYBODY ever ordered a code anything 🙄

Why haven’t you just asked Todd or Liam the question Joe?

  12. GoneGator Says:

Drops shouldn’t be subjective. If you can touch the ball with both hands you SHOULD catch the damn thing. That’s the minimum standard for people who get paid (a lot of $) to catch footballs.

  13. Joe Says:

failure to put forth ANY evidence that ANYBODY ever ordered a code anything 🙄

The evidence was on nationally streamed Amazon for the continental United States to see. Joe and Ira witnessed it with their own eyes at the game. You apparently prefer to keep your head buried in the sand.

  14. GoneGator Says:

Wait Joe… So if I watch the game for a 3rd or 4th time I might see Todd ORDER a “code turtle” and NOT just crappy execution.

You’re still doing the same thing. Taking an effect and creating a cause. That’s just not sound logic. We ALL SAW what happened. What we disagree on is why. I refuse to be swayed by arguments based on “I have a hunch logic”.

For the record…I’m not saying Todd or Liam did NOT order the offense to be conservative. I’m saying there’s no ACTUAL evidence that EVER happened and continuing to press that narrative is disingenuous at best. Cute term, “code turtle”, but that’s it… No substance.

If keeping my head buried in the sand means not seeing conspiracies and subsequently assigning specific blame to individuals based on zero evidence = assumptions then Yep!

  15. Bill Says:

Marky Mark I agree 💯 that they play down to their opponents and it costs them every time. That’s poor motivation and accountability by the coaches.

Marky Mark I agree 💯 that they play down to their opponents and it costs them every time. That’s poor motivation and accountability by the coaches. The more good things that are written about them the worse they play. They lack killer instinct and consistency.

CG14 is right. Both Coen and his entire offense need to finally synch. They do it, Baltimore won’t know what hit them. Their weakest area is defensive pass coverage.
