“Down In And Down Out”

October 18th, 2024

Joe loves how Bucky Irving is getting all kinds of respect from ex-players and national media.

Former defensive end Chris Long, the two-time Super Bowl winner and No. 2 overall draft pick, praised Irving, the Bucs’ rookie running back star, for being a “down in and down out” producer with “skillset variation.” Long continued to describe how Irving brings a “new dimension” to the Bucs offense during his Green Light podcast.

Tony Dungy has been gassing up Irving as the guy giving the Bucs’ offense a major lift. And there are other big names.

What Joe keeps coming back to? The telling, telling call from Bucs icon Rondé Barber, who works in One Buc Palace. In early September, Barber talked about how the locker room was “attaching itself” to Irving.

With another Irving-like game on Monday Night Football against the Ravens, NFL fans across the country will be attaching themselves to Irving, too.

He runs good, he runs hard, he’s tough to bring down

But guys will be out to punch out the ball from him

    That’s my concern

  2. BuucccNASTY Says:

LakeLandBuc, fair concern but good news is he only had one fumble in college football career. The fumble (which was terribly timed…) was more of a result of an allpro player making an allpro play rather than Bucky being careless. He actually had the ball pretty high and tight but Bates just got right in at the right time to make the play. I think he will be good and I think he learned from his mistake… I just hope his mistake doesn’t cost us the division

  3. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

It would be a down right sin if Bowles allows White to start ahead of Bucky or Tucker for this Monday night game.

  4. SlyPirate Says:

I’m a Duck. Huge Bucky fan for a long time. He was great at Oregon but he actually looks better as a pro.

  5. 813BUCBOI Says:

    keep running left lol

    GO BUCS!!!

  6. Commander Says:

I hope we can find a way to use all our RB without breaking their rhythm. I would like to see White used more as a poor man’s Deebo Samuel.

  7. Leopold Stotch Says:

Absolutely no reason why White should see any time anymore unless it’s two RB sets. We have 1 & 2 and it’s Tuck and Buck

Bucky will be fine. With only the one fumble in college per BuuuuuuucccccNASTY, and the one this year, that’s the least of our RB worries.
Our major RB concern at this time is whether Bonehead Bowles will feel compelled to return White to the starting lineup. My wish would be for the Bucs to trade him, preferably to a team in our division. I here-tell White is a great guy, but that should not factor into a decision about his playing time.
I once saw Mike Alstott fumble three times in a single game, and he is still rated as one of the best runners in Bucs history.
As a kid, several millennia ago, I watched the Steelers dominate the NFL in the 70’s. Chuck Noll was their much maligned head coach—the question being; did the Steelers win because of Noll or despite him?
To a lesser degree, especially in the win meter, the same can be said about Bowles. I still can’t get past his decision to not call a time out at the end of the Lions playoff game last year. Yeah, the odds were probably 10,000 to 1 the T.O.would have affected the game’s outcome. But a good coach never quits. And that’s exactly what Bowles did to end the Bucs playoff run last year.
In my mind, quitting is an unforgivable act!

Bucky is killing it. Love it.

That WAA kool of long 2 say about Bucky!!!!

Wasnt it kool of Brady 2 put up that proud goat comment of “wow, they put up 50! I never even did that” wow

  11. D Cone Says:

Recent ball carriers against the Ravens. Pacheco (KC) 15 for 45. Cook (BUF) 9 for 39. Daniels (WAS) 6 for 22. Ekeler (WAS) 9 for 21.

Ravens yards rushing allowed in any game if 81 and Bills lost 35-10. Fewest allowed was the low 20’s.

Irving and Tucker are going to run 28 for 217 combined again? Based on one good game against defense that was sleep walking for 60 minutes? Sure and White will run for a buck fifty if he gets the start.

Perhaps if the Ravens by some miracle shut down this new awesome Bucs Running Attack and it falls on Mayfield’s arm he can go 42 of 58 for 509 yards and 4 TD’s.

Heard it said “Go Big or Go Home” so I suppose it can go for Dreams too.

  12. Esteban85 Says:

The game plan has to be leaning more towards the pass game and not pounding the rock seeing as the Ravens defense stifles run games and is just decent at pass defense. We must have the mindset to stop King Henry of course but I think we have to come out slinging the rock to our wideouts. Bucky to start and Tuck to finish em out but we have to put up 30+ points and that means driving right down the field and scoring first and scoring often. One way to neutralize the run game is to get up big and keep scoring points through the air.

  13. Woodenman Says:

RB’s are probably the most injured player in football and you want to just trade white to get rid of him. He is easily the best pass catching back we have. You know he was 4th in league last year in scrimmage yards. I am glad none of you idiots are making decisions for this team.
We still have 11 games left we need all the running game we have

  14. stpetebucfan Says:

The Bucs MAY be entering another Golden era at RB. Alstott and Dunn have set the bar beyond high and it’s probably to soon to even DREAM about another two man backfield with that talent…but….

I think Bucky can be something very special and for that matter so can Young!
No not Alstott and Dunn but better than Playoff Lennie and Ronald Jones, two guys with talent but not as dominating as Tuck and Buck were last week.

Rachaad White can become a very good utility player ala Lennie Moore of the old great Unitas led Baltimore Colts. Yep the Colts before they bailed to Indy.
    Moore played RB/flanker.

No need to give White a position name, just let Coen use his creativity to utilize these three properly. But while White can run as effectively out of the backfield as Tuck and Buck he can be efficient and he’s been a great runner after catching passes. Gotta figure a way not to waste White’s talent while still give Tuck and Buck the most carries from the LOS.

  15. stpetebucfan Says:

oops White “can’t’ run out of the backfield as Tuck and Buck.

  16. Mike Says:

The thing about being versatile is that the Bucs can attack the Ravens weakest point, which is their coverage against WR’s, but also keep them guessing and off balance with some rushing attempts mixed in.

stpete, The Colts didn’t bail to Indy. The owners wanted to make more money and they were trust fund kids. So, the Irsays had a lot of trucks come in at night, and the next morning the team was on its way to Indianapolis. They broke the hearts of sports fans in Baltimore cos of greed. You mentioned Moore, a RB/flanker, who was part of Shula/Unitas teams. I think that’s what I see White doing. I just don’t know the tech term.

  18. stpetebucfan Says:

    orlbucfan

So I wasn’t insulting you when I compared your age to that of me and D.R. lol

Yes you are correct! The Irsay’s were poster boys for NEPO Babies who had little conscience or class. And yes it broke Baltimore’s heart.

Since I grew up across from Cincinnati our home team on TV was Paul Brown’s Cleveland Browns pre Bengals. Hence Jimmy Brown my all time favorite player.

You’ve been around I’ve only lived here since the Bucs but I’m guessing pre Bucs and Jax, Florida folks were all Dolphin fans.

In Cincy before the Bengals it was the Browns. And then Art Modell moved the Browns to Baltimore where they became the Ravens. Luckily the NFL had a spot for an expansion team and since Baltimore lost their “nickname” to Indy and became the Ravens not the Browns, Cleveland was able to regain the name of THEIR team.

When I went to Wiki they ID’d Lennie as an RB/Flanker. I may be wrong, I frequently am especially going down memory lane but I believe since they had a lot of two back sets back then they simply called anybody split out a flanker.

They didn’t have Wideouts and “Slot Receivers” back then, at least they didn’t call them that. But your memory is probably better than mine feel free to correct me.

  19. ballwasher61 Says:

You’re right b-4 Bucs we became Dolphins fans after Baltimore fired Shula and he came here but always looked at the Browns as home town fans although I was young LOL. I hate counting backwards, every time I scroll backwards for my birthyear it’s like spinning the price is right wheel.
