Ravens Bring Historic Streak To Tampa

October 17th, 2024

So the Ravens come to Tampa on Monday night with what may be the most dangerous rushing attack in NFL history.

Future Hall of Fame running back Derrick Henry is having a monster season and the reigning league MVP, Lamar Jackson, is the most prolific running QB of all-time.

At 27 years old, Jackson has the second-most rushing yards by a quarterback in league history — and he’s got a good shot of catching Michael Vick late this season. Along the way, Jackson has a ridiculous 62-21 record as a starter in the regular season.

Collectively, the Ravens are averaging 5.9 yards per carry and are riding a historic streak of 39 consecutive games of rushing for 100 yards more. Damn, that’s more than Jamel Dean’s interception-free streak of 35 straight games.

Joe hopes Todd Bowles is challenging his defensive front to stop that streak.

Lavonte David is healthy and so are defensive tackles Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey, who Todd Bowles said today looks fast. Allegedly, K.J. Britt is a beast against the run and Joe was impressed with YaYa Diaby’s work in run defense in New Orleans.

With great run-support safeties like Jordan Whitehead and Antoine Winfield, Jr., Joe has very high hopes for the Bucs being able to slow the Ravens and force four or five punts, which would out of character for the Ravens lately.

If the Bucs can’t slow the run, well, then they’re going to need a load of points to win.

Joe can only imagine what that might look like. A Monday Night Football shootout victory over Baltimore — winners of four in a row — would have the whole country talking about the Bucs.

I have a sneaking suspicion this will be a low-scoring affair. Everyone is predicting scores in the 30s, and I think it’ll be won 23-20 or something like that.

If Baker gets a relatively clean pocket, we’ll be the winner. If he gets treated like he did against the Broncos, we’ll be the loser.

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

I’m more worried about Travis Jones than Lamar or Henry.

  3. adam from ny Says:

i see our bucs as a team that tends to give up big plays…

gotta watch out for henry breaking one and galloping away from the defense…dude is a horse…a galloping horse once given a little space…

or lamar going crazy on the ground

  4. Costa Rica John Says:

This is why the Bucs have built the team with fast OLB’s. You have to be able to chase down these rushing QB’s.
Vea and Kancey will be the keys to stopping D. Henry. They might get their 100 yards but I think we will get 100 yards on the ground too. These are the games players look forward too. Have to beat the best to be the best.

  5. Matt_PcAfee Says:

I’m curious to know Derek Henry versus TB defense career stats..

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Need to get an early lead….We have the capability of stopping the run….but stopping both the run and pass…..TBBF doesn’t know about that.

  7. Boge Says:

The Bucs have been pretty good against the run when VV’s been healthy. And now we have Kancey back too.

I think we’ll shut Henry down but Lamar probably runs wild. Hopefully David keeps him in check.

  8. GoneGator Says:

    Statement game!

    Defense:
Stop Henry before he gets a head of steam and he’s mediocre so D-line and ILB play will be key. Try to keep Lamar in the pocket as much as possible. Limit explosive plays.

    Offense:
Let Baker bake. Pass to set up the run. Continue to mix it up/creativity.

  9. Crickett Baker Says:

Somehow Via needs to get a piece of Henry early. GO BUCS!

  10. BucsBeast Says:

I’d like to see a constant spy on Lamar with a heavy Blitz.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

Keys to success: (1) limit explosive run plays by the Ravens, (2) score early and keep the game close. We don’t want to be throwing a ton to win the game, (3) implement a lot of play action, and (4) O-line needs to give Baker time to throw.

  12. PSL Bob Says:

A win on Monday night would be a real statement victory. GO BUCS!

  13. Upstate NY BUC Says:

I’m feeling Andrews is going to have at least 10-15 catches over the middle , I hope we spy Lavonte on him!! Great hands.. Go Bucs

  14. David Says:

    Going to miss Dennis speed.
Britt and LVD need to bring it along with the whole line. They must stop the run.
Winfield Whitehead Tykee… One of them will be in the box the whole game.

On offense… Pass pass pass. They are not very good against the pas. . Their best in the league against the run. Obviously we have to run, but the O line needs to bring it.

  15. Mike C Says:

This is going to be a great game I think, might need Tampa to show up strong for this one, Bring it Buc fans, everything you got!

  16. A Bucs Fan Says:

What about Justice Hill? His speed on the perimeter is deadly.

  17. VOT Says:

This reminds me of when the dirty birds and Vick were the vaunted O that was unstoppable coining to town to whip the cover 2 Bucs

55, 99, 47 put a hard stop to that garbage

Time for 54, 50, 31 to put on a repeat performance

David is the FT QB shadow

Vea has to hold both A gaps and AW3 has to fill like a freight train

We can shut them down and we can throw against them all night

This is a game we should win

  18. Pewter Power Says:

Vea is the only dependable guy and he’ll be double teamed again. Bucs had a lead last time we played these guys and they just ran it down our throats the entire second half. Calijah Kancey Is what 280-290? Don’t they have a guard that’s like 380? Tackle D Henry at the los and he’ll fall forward for 3 or 4 yards. Offense has to have a monster game.

  19. BucsFan81 Says:

We don’t fair well on prime time and we don’t have the best track record against the Ravens. Don’t have high expectations that we can win this one.

  20. orlbucfan Says:

If LVD hasn’t assigned himself to spy duty against Lamar Jackson, you can bet he’s practice-coaching whoever will be doing it. Bucs can win this one especially if the Ravens come into RJS full of themselves. I think this will be a Cardiac Bucs win. Whitehead already knows how to blitz, and he’s giving AWJ and the younger DBs tips. Normally, I hate these games but not this one. Close final score but Bucs win.

  21. Baking with Coen Says:

As long as we get a WIN I could care less if the run for 100 or more. Just win Baby!

    Let’s Tuck, Buck and Bake!!!!

  22. Tiff, Okla,Bake, Bucs 4 life Says:

    Yall ALL have awesome!!

insights 4 our win n lotsa hopE!!
    Me 2!!!

PSL B ob, i agree with ur steps n hope our offensive team DOES give Baker TIME 2 throw ANd Am Looking 4 Some super gr8 LONG PERFECT PASSES FRM BAKER AND AWESOME CATCHES AND TD,’S FRM OUR AWESONE WR,’ ESP EVANS N GODWIN N SHEP 2, and crew lolol
    GO BAKE! GO BUCS!!!

  23. Bobby Says:

K.J Britt is going to be our Achilles Heal in this game. Im going to say now because everyone is going to be saying it by next Tuesday. Bucs should have added a middle linebacker and another pass rusher.

  24. GoneGator Says:

    Last year vs Derrick Henry.
    11 att for 24 yards. 2.2 YPC.

Granted, Baltimore is a completely different animal than Tennessee but still… Todd’s successfully game planned to stop Henry in the past.

  25. GoneGator Says:

The best way to slow Baltimore down would be another hot 🔥 start!

If we can jump ahead early and get a few timely stops then we got this 🤘🏼

  26. Dave Pear Says:

BTW – Bo Nix is horrible. So surprising he made Todd’s defense look like a JV college team from the Citadel.
