UPDATED: “He Tweaked His Leg”

October 17th, 2024

UPDATED: Mike Evans wasn’t on the official injury report last week. He is on it this week.

Evans didn’t practice today after having a lighter-than-usual workload Sunday in New Orleans. Today was the Bucs’ first practice since the 51-27 win.

“He tweaked his leg,” Todd Bowles said, clearly disinterested in giving details.

The head coach was asked if Evans has a new injury or an old one and gave no specifics. “It’s been nagging,” Bowles said.

Interestingly, Bucco Bruce Arians, who serves as an advisor to Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht, told JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman that Evans isn’t right.

Mike is banged up, playing hurt,” Arians said. “He’s struggling a little bit with some stuff in his legs. We’ll get him healthy and ready to go.”

Earlier this season, dealt with an unspecified knee issue but didn’t miss games. (UPDATED: The official injury report says Evans’ issue is a hamstring.)

Joe sure hopes Evans can get healthy in a hurry. Forget about his 10-year streak of 1,000 yards receiving being in jeopardy, Evans is critical to the Bucs’ making a successful playoff run and to winning the division.

Tampa Bay’s Week 11 bye must feel 1,000 miles away for Evans right now.

It’s clear that Evans has been hobbling for a couple of weeks…

  2. A Bucs Fan Says:

Just like 2020… he’s playing on one leg.

  3. gofortheface30 Says:

Frankly I barely know when he’s hurt and when he isn’t because he must be the only Receiver I’ve ever seen in my life that waves to the sideline after EVERY-SINGLE-CATCH. I’m sure some commenters will get major menstrual cramps and butthurt over this comment but idc. Its annoying. Best offensive player in Bucs history? Yes. Great guy? One thousand percent. Hall of famer? Yes, not first ballot but a hall of famer. But people there is a reason why he has never been regarded as THE very best receiver in the NFL, its little things like that along with a limited route tree. Nitpicky? Sure, he is absolutely a great player but I mean cmon. Whether hurt or not, stop getting owned by the Saints, and if he cant run right now then dont play.

  4. adam from ny Says:

do you think camarda tweaked his leg too…?…lol…

the punter situation is a real problem…

we went from having the most booming punter, and an athletic weapon back there, to a cheech & chong type scenario…

some careers tend to go “up in smoke”

  5. Saskbucs Says:

What is the health of our other WRs? I would love to beat Baltimore this Monday, but if Evans needs a week off, now is the time. Sit him Monday and hopefully he is 100% for Atlanta.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

If Mike’s having “nagging” leg problems, I’d think seriously about giving him a week off. We need him at 100% for the playoff run. Time to get McMillan and Palmer more involved.

  7. Saskbucs Says:

If he is healthy enough to be a decoy and won’t make his injury worse… go ahead and play especially if it will open things up for Godwin to go nuts again but I wouldn’t chance him if there is any risk.

Won’t hurt his streak, which I do care about mainly so that Evans eventually gets his HoF due, to take a game off, get right and start posting 100 yard games again.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Definitely playing hurt, but he still attracts a lot of attention when he’s in,..

  9. Boss Says:

    Offense runs better w/o him.

    much less predictable

  10. adam from ny Says:

you can use mike as the super decoy…and when the defense gets a little lax – as they realize he’s just donny decoy, he sneakily slips beyond the secondary for a deep big throw…

    yes

  11. zzbucs Says:

    @Boss

    What?????????? Seriously???Please tell me it´s a joke

  12. Larrd Says:

Any word on Rakim Jarrett? Palmer? Is MacMillan getting close to 100 percent? Time for a youngster or two to step up.

  13. A Bucs Fan Says:

@.Boss you have lost any credibility you may have had with a statement like that. Absolute garbage take.

  14. heyjude Says:

Thank you for the update, Joe.

Hope it’s nothing too serious with Mike’s leg.

  15. adam from ny Says:

if sean payton blows out the saints tonight, do they can dennis allen, or give him a pass with all the injuries…

allen could potentially be out tonight if they get embarrassed at home again

  16. Adam's Angry Says:

Every year with that hamstring… c’mon Mike. Mix in some leg curls in the summer time.

  17. stpetebucfan Says:

Gofortheface. You’re too young perhaps to have watched the legendary Jimmy Brown. Went back to the huddle after every run as if he was hurt. He said he did it on purpose so the D never really knew when he was actually hurt. He wanted every edge. Don’t know ME’s reason but I don’t think he worries about anything we think so you’re not insulting him just making an honest observation.

  18. stpetebucfan Says:

Adam…agree completely and so does YAHOO sports.

  19. unbelievable Says:

Yeah this has been pretty clear to anyone watching the game. I think something happened in week 4. He looked okay at the beginning of the Falcons game but you could see it get worse in the 2nd half. And then last week he was obviously injured from the start.

  20. unbelievable Says:

You guys just realizing “Boss” has some of the most moronic takes on here? LOL

  21. stpetebucfan Says:

Boss likes to “chop the lettuce” as Gronk might say. Perhaps he just got some really good smoke. LMAO

  22. LakelandBuc Says:

Something is up with the Bucs and their receiving corps

They signed WR Marquez Callaway to their practice squad

I would expect him to be elevated to the active roster sooner than later

  23. Gipper Says:

Feling good about the Ravens game on Monday night. Need to limit ME to Red Zone only. There is no question he has been dragging leg around but still he will occupy defenders in the Red Zone. When is Trey Palmer expected back? Ryan Miller also a good sized receiver. Give him most of ME reps except for Red Zone.

  24. Boss Says:

last year mike went out in the saints game 1st 1/2…they rallied to win

gets hurt this year and offense AGAIN comes alive because they are unpredictable when he is in the game

you ladies need to pay attention.

all those fancy plays they dialed up would have gone to mike in double coverage.

it’s just the facts. sorry if it offends you nut huggers.

  25. J Says:

Offense is more efficient w/o Evans in there? WTF are you smoking, boss?

  26. J Says:

Listen to yourself… “they rallied to win” you don’t rally to win a game if the offense is NOW unpredictable since Evans isn’t in.

Get some actual stats to back up that preposterous claim.

  27. GoneGator Says:

Seems to me none of our receiver’s, after Mike and Chris have really shown up in games besides Shepard.

Love to see Palmer, J-Mac, Rakeem, somebody else, become a legit threat to get open and catch the damn ball @ the receiver position.

  28. David Says:

Definitely seemed obvious after those first two catches. He took himself out after the second one.

I want to see J-Mac step up this game

  29. LakelandBuc Says:

    GoneGator,

That’s the exact reason why they signed Marquez Callaway to their practice squad. It’s obvious they’re not pleased with their depth at the WR position. These young guys are not producing, it’s as simple as that. They are poor blockers, and they have a problem catching the ball. I don’t think Baker has trust in them.

I don’t believe the coaching staff have faith in them

  30. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Lakeland – they signed Marquez to replace Cody Thompson who went on PS IR.

It’s more about health than play. Mike is banged up. Chris has a neck strain a couple weeks ago, Shepherd just got healthy, J-Mac pulled his hamstring, Kam Johnson is in a walking boot, Rakim Jarrett practice for the first time in 2 months after knee surgery.

Every rookie will make mistakes. It’s apart of their growth process. Despite all of that the Bucs haven’t lost any games due to their WR play.. That’s for sure.

Frankly I barely know when he’s hurt and when he isn’t because he must be the only Receiver I’ve ever seen in my life that waves to the sideline after EVERY-SINGLE-CATCH.
    ——————-
What exactly is your problem here? So what?! I want ME13 to sit this one out and heal. That means you won’t get your tender feelings offended cos he won’t be waving to the RJS sidelines. You sound like you have the brains of a dead tick.

  32. unbelievable Says:

Yeah he’s waving to the sidelines cuz he’s playing hurt. LOL at pretending this has been a norm for him any other year of his career except this year. Some of you make up the absolute dumbest chit, I swear…

@GoneGator – Shepard has been doing alright, when he’s not being called for a penalty.

I said the offseason that I really thought they should have resigned Dave Moore. He showed some wheels and good ability to get open / separation last season.

  33. El HEFE Rick Says:

Gofortheface my guy ME13 is off the field more because of age and the deep route that he is usually running and as for don’t be on the field if he is hurt that’s a good point but with him on he is taking away pressure from Godwin Palmer white etc I’m pretty sure he could easily rest up u tif it’s helping the team if he is on the field why would he

  34. Tucker Says:

Shepard has been doing great as a wr3 like others have rightly pointed out two do those penalties were trash calls by the refs.

  35. SB~LV Says:

    Hence …run the pattern
    Catch the ball
    and fall down

  36. A Bucs Fan Says:

Hamstring injuries are no good. He’ll play probably but it’s best to sit him this week and have him come back healthier or fully back for the Falcons.

  37. BucsFan81 Says:

They need to let him rest for a week or 2 and give the reps to McMillan and Palmer. The offense is running through Godwin and Buck and Tuck at this point anyways. No need to have Evans out there at half speed.

  38. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

The offense opens up to Godwin and the others BECAUSE #13 is such a threat. When he’s not on the field, Coen has done a good job being creative, but we are clearly better with #13 on the field.

Boss doesn’t get it, but that’s ok.

  39. Bucsgoham12 Says:

He has had leg issues almost every season. It does not stop him from playing, but only so long he can grind through it.

  40. Jerseybuc Says:

It’s Thursday this is the first practice since Sunday?

  41. unbelievable Says:

@Jerseybuc – That’s how Coach Softserve does things

  42. A Bucs Fan Says:

@Jerseybuc and Unbelievable – It’s a Monday night game against the ravens so the practice schedule is moved by a day. The Bucs traveled Sunday/monday and returned to their homes after the hurricane. They were back in the team facility building for film study and meetings on Tuesday (like a normal Monday). They weren’t allowed to practice per the CBA rules on Wednesday (like every Tuesday each week they play Sunday). Thursday is their first opportunity to practice per the CBA (like a Wednesday in a regular week).

The only time they can really get an extra practice in per the CBA on a MONDAY is when they are coming off a Thursday night game or the Monday after the bye week. They aren’t allowed to practice on Tuesday’s.

  43. Jerseybuc Says:

    Unbelievable,
That’s crazy to me 3 days with a big Monday game coming up. Def can see Monday but back to work on Tuesday boys.

  44. Jerseybuc Says:

They are absolutely allowed to practice on Tuesdays. I did forget about the hurricane n they would have to get there stuff sorted out.

  45. A Bucs Fan Says:

Forgot to mention the final practice is usually a private walk through on Saturday mornings ( this week it will be Sunday). NFL CBA only allows teams to practice 4 times per week.

  46. A Bucs Fan Says:

Jersey Buc – they can but no NFL team does unless it’s a Thursday game. That’s known as the players day off on a normal week. Tuesdays primarily are for coaches to make the game plan for the week before they install it on Wednesday.

  47. BillyBucco Says:

Dude ME could be in a wheelchair and they would double cover him.
You can’t possibly say our team is better without him.

  48. MadMax Says:

26 to 3… aints tripping lol

  49. adam from ny Says:

    wow saints are a joke…

cantalones panthers can potentially leapfrog them

  50. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Everyone was freaking out about Goedeke missing multiple games due to a concussion. Is Palmer about to miss his 3rd game with a concussion?
