Chris Godwin & Leading The NFL In Four Stats

October 15th, 2024

Joe wants to make sure all Bucs fans are aware of what they’re witnessing this season from Chris Godwin.

As of today, Godwin leads the NFL in first-down catches (30) and yards after catch (324), and he’s tied for the NFL lead in touchdowns with five. Oh, and Godwin also leads the NFL in receptions (43) and leads the NFC in receiving yards (511).

What more could the guy possibly do? He’s a stout and willing blocker and he hasn’t missed a game since 2022.

Joe hopes Godwin sustains his greatness and finds himself back in the Pro Bowl and signing a fat new contract from Team Glazer. Aside from injury, Joe thinks the only thing that might stand in Godwin’s way is an injury to Mike Evans.

Evans may be injured (an official report will come later this week) and if that happens, defenses will key more on Godwin. Evans may be struggling a bit, but he’s still attracting all kinds of attention.

I picked the wrong Buccaneer in my fantasy draft đŸ¤£

    I smell a Shepards Pie explosion coming…

  3. BillyBucco Says:

That’s potential triple crown receiving stats.
Can you say ALL PRO in a contract year?
Gonna have to shell out $30 million Im afraid.
Good thing they are already sitting on $11 million.

I smell a Shepards Pie explosion coming!

  5. dls5492 Says:

Awesome! JL drafted him in the third round. How did he last that long?

  6. BakerFan Says:

Oh boy, now all the announcers have another player that they can deem “SPECIAL” Over under is 6 times in pre game, game and post game use.

  7. A Bucs Fan Says:

Mike is definitely playing hurt. His play this season is reminding me a lot of his 2020 season when he was grinding and playing on one leg for awhile. He needs some practice days off and maybe a game to heal up. Bucs need both Mike and CG to make a SB run.

  8. RamblingRhino Says:

We should do whatever we have to do to keep #14 Godwin a Buccaneer for his entire career. He has always been a first down machine, great blocker, fluid fast route runner, always a team first player.

Godwin, Evans, one of our younger receivers, or Shepherd staying around. We have top talent moving forward, Evans and Godwin will not play forever. But both should play forever in Tampa Bay.

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  9. Bucfan1988 Says:

Yeah I wanna know details of ME13’s leg issue…
He was not himself this past Sunday….

    Is it a hammy??

  10. Baker Bowl Says:

TP10 and JMAC are the next Evans and Rod God, don’t read too much into the comparison, I just really believe they can be a productive 1&2 for YEARS.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

This is why you let your superstars do their job, and they’ll reward you. Baker isn’t a good QB at throwing more than 10 yards or so downfield – he can do it he’s just very inaccurate and streaking. So here’s an idea, just throw short and let your superstars make plays. That’s how you end up leading the NFL in yards after catch. Makes no difference to me if you throw a 55 yard TD pass 50 yards in the air or 5 yards in the air, as long as it ends up in the end zone.

  12. Saskbucs Says:

I would say I also picked the wrong Bucs WR in my fantasy drafts, I had Godwin circled for every one but then a crazy thing happened in every one…. no one wanted Evans. Guy kept sliding and no way I wasn’t taking the 1255 and 13 guy. Have Evans in all my leagues… need him back on track, not just for me, for himself and continuing his record streak. Outside of the Bucs W-L column those are the most important Bucs stats to me.

Happy for Godwin, so lucky to have him and Mike for these years.

  13. GoneGator Says:

Would be great (and probably necessary) to see Trey and J-Mac become legitimate threats. Seems like they have potential to do so and we need the speed. Don’t know if either has Baker and Liam’s confidence (or mine for what that’s worth) that they’ll catch the ball when called upon at this point.

Chris is the best slot, possession receiver in the game atm.

chris is hungry……….and chris is eating

    he currently 1A……….not 1B

  15. drdneast Says:

If you watch Evans trying to chase down the Saints DB on Bakers final INT you can tell Mike is favoring a leg and it definitely looks like a hammy. Mike has always had tight hamstrings and problems with them.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

drdneast – Mike is fine. It was a Godwin day, next week it might be an Evans day. Really, however, with the accuracy issues Baker has been having, you’re best off to keep playing the short game and just let Chris get his yards. Baker will be fine, but is streaky, and a smart OC understands that, and makes adjustments.

  17. unbelievable Says:

Mike is not fine, he’s clearly injured right now. Sometimes I question what game you’re actually watching, Rod.

As for Godwin- dude is gonna get PAID.

  18. J Says:

Evans is CLEARLY hurt. I seem to remeber him taking a shot to his left quad in week two and he hasnt been the same since; it’s great that he’s a distraction even though not 100%, but it’s not sustainable.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

unbelievable – I’m saying he’s going to be fine over the course of the season. Even if Mike is only 80%, he’s still better than 90% of the WR’s in the NFL.

  20. A Bucs Fan Says:

Bucs just signed a veteran WR Marquez Callaway to their practice squad…. That’s not a good sign. Hopefully just to replace Cody Thompson.

  21. Usfbuc Says:

Just hope ME is able to get healed up and get some big games in, would love to see him keep the streak going

  22. BAKERSBucs says Says:

Munch every post u put up is the same thing a baker cut down man it is old & monotonous try something different stop being a loser knucklehead it’s not becoming

  23. JimBobBuc Says:

It will be interesting to see how the Ravens play Godwin. They might double him so it could be a huge day for ME13. Hopefully Evans is ready for a heavy workload!

I don’t see the run game being as effective vs the Ravens, I think the Saints were worn out in the second half from the Chiefs game.

  24. Darin Says:

Gota show up to play every week is what were witnessing. Stats are for ESPN

  25. SenileSenior Says:

I agree with you, JimBobBuc. On both points.

I fully expect Godwin to get PAID next year, by the Bucs.

I expect us to load up for a Superbowl run next year. I would love to see us make that run this year but I do not see it. I hope I underestimate our current team!

    Go Bucs!!

  26. Larrd Says:

As promising as Palmer and MacMillan seem, they need to get on the field and contributing. It is too much to ask expect Evans and Godwin to carry the whole load. Otton and Durham could be utilized more, too.

  27. garro Says:

    Hoping mike is ok.

He was definitely struggling physically Sunday. Someone mentioned a hamstring. Maybe the extra day will help him.

    Go Bucs!

  28. garro Says:

Godwin is the epitome of a Pro’s Pro.

    Go Bucs!

  29. adam from ny Says:

the baker to godwin connection is really working much better than in the davie cantaloupes offense last year…

it’s like they couldn’t really get on track last year to the point where CG’s wifey even got pissed…

this year baker X godwin X coen looks like a well oiled machine

  30. adam from ny Says:

yeah seems pretty obvious mike is having a ham & cheese issue
