Bucs’ Run Game Got Entire Team Fired Up

October 13th, 2024

A good running game fires him up.

It’s well-known that offensive linemen love to run the ball. More importantly, they love to run the ball when their team’s running game is dominating.

Joe spoke with several players after today’s win in which the Bucs racked up 277 yards (!) rushing against the slimy Saints. Everyone Joe spoke with said not only was today’s running attack what the team strived for since this summer, it stokes every player to do better at his job.

“Watching the way [Sean Tucker and Bucky Irving] ran, it was invigorating,” Bucs corner Zyon McCollum said.

“That’s the way we want to run,” Bucs guard Cody Mauch added. “That was the goal we had all summer, to develop a run game like we had today.”

When Joe asked Mauch if he gets pumped and wants to hit defenders even more after a good run by one of the running backs, Mauch said, “Oh yeah, that gets us excited.”

When Joe spoke to Irving — he initially didn’t want to talk, saying, “No man, you want to talk to ‘Tuck.’ You don’t want to talk to ‘Tuck?’ Why don’t you want to talk to ‘Tuck?'”

Tucker (14 carries, 136 yards, 1 TD) reinforced what Mauch said about how the team worked so hard this summer to have an improved rushing attack.

“This is what we wanted to do all year long,” Tucker said of how the Bucs pounded the slimy Saints on the ground in the second half.

Invigorating to watch as we mercilessly ended any semblance of a defense. Saints were reduced, diminished , failed , got trucked, I could go on ad nauseum. Aint no sweeter victory than pummeling the Aints-Who Dat–HahAhaha

  2. Buddha Says:

Buccaneers now tied with Commanders for most points scored through first 6 games, one point more than the the Ravens. Damn impressive.

Was really cool towards the end with how many empty seats there were

Not a good look for white that the run game had its best game of the season with him out.

  6. OHBucFan Says:

It was beautiful watching those all dem runs.

  7. Travis Says:

It was good today they can’t ignore it this is our new duo. White has had a terrible ypc his whole career even though he is great on screens and what not he doesn’t hit the hole aggressively like Irving and Tucker.

  8. Travis Says:

We might have retired Cam Jordan and Demario Davis today.

  9. LUVMYBUCS Says:

You can’t be a physically dominating team – if you can’t run the ball effectively.

  10. Bojim Says:

The tv showed Bucky on the sidelines towards the end when Tucker was making those runs and kinda looked a little, you know not dejected but looked a bit dejected? Dunno. I sure hopes he plays 1-2 or 2-1 RB whatever. Still very happy for Tucker.

White is good on pass catching–we got a good run game–wow haven’t thought that ever since I have been a Buc fan since 2015.

  12. Dr. Dana Says:

There is room for White. Bucky should begin most games with the first 3-5 targets. Then bring in White for 3 to 5 targets. At this point, change up and target Tucker 20 times.
White is a favorite with the coaches, he is an awesome teammate, but we will need Tucker for splash plays if we plan to beat the Raven and we have to beat the 49ers.
Things are coming together, but they need to take the ball out of Mayfield’s hands on so many plays. He is pressing and trying to do too much versus involving Godwin, Bucky, and Tucker. Sheppard needs to sit. Miller is a much bigger and stable option.
Once Palm returns, they will be able to stretch defenses. This is a very powerful offense. Lets see if they can put together 4 quarters against the Ravens.

I think the players would be pretty demoralized if the coaches insert White back into the starting lineup after today. He’s had his shot for dozens of games now…and has failed.

Being pretty good at catching 4 yard screen passes shouldn’t supersede being arguably the worst running RB in the league. Today we finally saw what real RBs are supposed to look like.

  14. Proudbucsfan Says:

I knew from the beginning that this kid could run like this. He’s a 4.3 guy and he runs people over. It doesn’t matter who starts, but our run game from here on out has got to be the Buck & Tuck show.

  15. Crickett Baker Says:

Who dat says Licht is no good?

  16. Jerseybuc Says:

    NO MORE WHITE!!!!
All buck n tuck going forward

  17. Ghost Says:

Start all three but sit baker start trask. lol jk but I did want to see trask in for a little when baker got hurt.

  18. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Send White to the bench.

He’s a RB that can’t run the ball.

  19. Daniel Z Says:

I’m a bit hesitant to throw White out with the bath water, so to speak. Having Goedeke back in definitely helped and NO’s run D was ranked in the bottom half to third coming into this weekend. Having said that, you have to go with the hot hand, so I’d make sure there are enough plays for all three of them on Monday night.

  20. drdneast Says:

For all those people who want to get rid of White, you can never have enough good players for depth. I’s just stupid to try and trade away good players.

  21. Esteban85 Says:

I’m gonna keep saying it: amazing job bringing in talent by this front office. Both 3rd rounders are starters, fourth rounder Bucky has the eyes of a lion and the toughness of a south side Chicago kid. Zyon looks like a top notch corner, Tykee is a high caliber Rhondè or Winfield style to him, UDFA Tucker may be the best find of them all! Great job Licht and crew and great job to the coaches getting these men in gear. Impressive.
