Another Reason To Be Dubious Of Leaning On Run Game
October 13th, 2024Joe is a big, big, big, big believer in getting the ball in the hands of your best players. Let the stars be stars. And the Bucs have them.
Mike Evans is going into the Hall of Fame. There’s a reason. He balls out. He’s one regular season touchdown catches from having 100. That’s rare air.
With the possible exception of Travis Kelce, Joe can’t think of a more clutch non-quarterback in the passing game than Chris Godwin.
Lean on the guys who are above the rest and have winning, championship resumes.
Oh, and here is another reason why leaning on the Bucs run game is a setup to fail. Per Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis, no team has more runs for no gain than the Bucs.
25.2% of the Tampa Bay runs have failed to gain yardage, the highest rate in the league.
That’s a full quarter of the Bucs runs! Turrible.
Teams only get so many snaps in a game. Running just to run, to hell with production, is a recipe for disaster. And in crunch time, to be OK with throwing away a fourth of your run attempts seems reckless to Joe.
Let your stars be stars. And the Bucs have no stars yet in the backfield ready to take a handoff or pitch.

I am not so certain that Bucky Irving will not change your mind on that statement of yours today. It’s a tall task running successfully against these aints but it can be done. We need our best o-line to play their best today. Otherwise mayfield gets hammered. May the o-line play like their paychecks depended on it.

Saints won their first 2 games by averaging over 45 PPG. They’ve now lost their last 3 games, averaging barely 16 PPG. Same players; different results. So what the he11 happened to their offense?
Not that difficult to figure out actually. First game they beat the Panthers 47-10. They ran the ball down their throats (37 rushes for 180 yds). Duh. Second game they beat the Cowgirls 44-19. They ran the ball down their throats (39 rushes for 190 yds). Duh.
But opponents figured out how to stop them after that. In Game 3, the Eagles won 15-12 by running the ball down the Saints throat (25 rushes for 172 yds) and ate them up with short passes. In Game 4, the Falcons won 26-24 by emphasizing the short passes (21-of-35 for 238 yds) but mixing in an effective run game (15 rushes for 88 yds). Sounds familiar for some reason (kinda like what they did to us?).
In Game 5, the Chiefs whooped ’em 26-13 by using a BALANCED ATTACK that totally controlled the clock (39 rushes for 139 yds & 2TDs, plus Mahomes went 28-of-39 for 331 yds, no TDs & 1 INT). Almost all of Mahomes passes were short (he was only 1-for-4 deep in the game). Chiefs won the TOP Battle
40 minutes to 20 minutes using that strategy.
Not that hard to figure out how Bucs SHOULD attack the Saints defense. Their pass defense has been very good deep all season; their short passing defense has been vulnerable, especially when a solid running game is mixed in there. Saints defense is solid (ranked #8) but their #4-ranked offense is an illusion (living off the first 2 games).

Great information defense rules…

If you can figure it out…. Hopefully Todd can?

Bowleszo had everything in his lap to be 4-1. Even after forgetting his Depends on defense. Full control of the division, in the hunt for a top 3 seed.
Nope.
Regression to the clown show ensued.
Now he gets players back and a rookie QB starts for the opponent. Any average, even below average head coach would have this game packed away by the third quarter.
LOL, watch what the Bowleszo does with the opportunity today. Shave his head, get two red tufts to glue on his ears and a red node to match.

Baker had said it. The defense dictates what the offense runs. You can’t simply think “ pass more!” Each opponent presents a different battle plan. That, and a keen “situational” mindset, is the recipe for victory.

Must runs for no gain, but the o-line isn’t part of the issue 😂😂😂
October 13th, 2024 at 4:46 pm
Sure had no issue running in THAT game…

Well, this didn’t age well.
