Lurking Robert Hainsey

October 10th, 2024

Love him or hate him (and Bucs are highly polarized), Bucs center Robert Hainsey is a very smart dude in a contract year with a lot of experience in fresh legs.

And starting center Graham Barton has a hamstring injury.

As Joe wrote earlier, Barton hasn’t practiced this week. Bad hamstring’s just don’t disappear or get taped up successfully. Also, Barton is a rookie and the Bucs likely have no interest in encouraging/pushing one of their prized foundational players to play when he might not be ready. This isn’t Ryan Jensen in a playoff game.

So that means Hainsey is lurking and ready to explode with maximum effort against the slimy Saints on Sunday, where’s he’s played before. Hainsey was the Bucs’ starting center in 2022 and 2023 and didn’t miss a game.

He’s a warrior type of guy, who will do everything he can to play to his ceiling. Where that is, Joe isn’t sure.

What Joe is certain of is that the inhabitants of JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters are darn happy Hainsey is on the roster for this critical game. He pass blocked well for Tom Brady in 2022, and Baker Mayfield was a Pro Bowl passer last year. Joe will also note that Rachaad White has the exact same yards-per-carry average this year as he did last year.

Hopefully, the Bucs don’t need Hainsey on Sunday, but if they do, Joe won’t lose sleep on Saturday night.

Bring Hainsey in for 1 play. Hainsey lines up at center, Barton goes to Left Tackle, and Wirfs lines up tackle eligible as jumbo for trick play.

  2. Baking with Coen Says:

    You are hilarious Joe!
    You do your job well.
    LFBake!!!!!

  3. Defense Rules Says:

So now our awesome OLine becomes Skule, Mauch, Hainsey, Bredeson, and oh ya, Wirfs,

If I were Baker Mayfield, I’d be telling Coen I want to roll out on every play.

  4. BucsFan81 Says:

This oline needs work. Is Luke done for the year. Seems like he has missed a lot of time for a concussion.

  5. Hearty Dikerson Says:

A warrior type guy? Jensen was a warrior type guy. Hainsey is one of the softest, weakest linemen in the NFL. The entire oline’s mentality did a 180 when Hainsey took over for Ryan.

  6. Drunkinybor Says:

Great back up but expect running game to struggle.

  7. kgh4life Says:

Hainsey has the intelligence and experience to play center, so he’ll definitely get the Bucs in the right blocking schemes, he’s just not physically gifted like Barton.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Would rather play Hainsey than risk further injury to Barton.

  9. ElioT Says:

Hainsey has experience IN fresh legs?

    Just like Jameis.

  10. FirstTimePoster Says:

Jensen should have NEVER played in that Cowboys game. Loved him for his grit, but he was risking further injury for trying to play.

  11. joemaguire Says:

We need more 6 lineman plays for sure.

    Like Harbaugh and the Chargers.

    But I say,

Put Mauch at as the second LT. He was a TE and is fast!

    Slide Klein in at RG.

Hainsey as the second RT sometimes. He was a RT at Notre Dame.

I want some 6 and 7 lineman formations.

    Harbaugh is the man!

    We should copy him.

  12. Dave Pear Says:

Too bad we didn’t put him out at RT instead of Druler. Man, this team, injuries, lack of any defense, no game management unless it’s wrong.

    Todd is great.

  13. Ol' Boy Says:

If he plays I hope the fans bring them dollars for the lapdances he’ll be giving..

Alright. Yeah if he comes in and plays, I hope he plays better than last year… And the year before..

  14. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Insert Jaws theme song

  15. adam from ny Says:

    he’s not lurking, he’s loitering

  16. zzbucs Says:

    Joe…

the moment you write love him or hate him, YOU are polarizing….
Your are pointing fingers and accusing Bucs fans on doing what you do all the time, and that´s polarizing!!!!

    I don´t love him nor hate him……

  17. Bill Says:

@ all Boy insults from dudes like you sitting on the couch in their moms trailer while she’s pounding Schmitz and Pall Malls is why I read the posts.

  18. Ol' Boy Says:

I was wondering who that was in there

  19. David Says:

I definitely do not hate him and I’m glad he is here as the back up. But he didn’t do well as a starter. Hopefully he’s learned, he might have to play a couple weeks.

  20. Badbucs Says:

They can run into Hainsey’s butt in the backfield again now right next to Mauch’s. Double butt blocking sled.

  21. Bucs Bucs Bucs! Says:

We’re lucky to have a very capable Center in waiting.HAINSEY is a valuable piece of this team.

  22. garro Says:

Look at the bright side Joe. We could be trying Joe Hawley or maybe your buddy Beckless.

Hainsey will be fine. He bulked up even more in the off season.

    Go Bucs!
