“We Want To Get This Taste Out Of Our Mouth”

October 10th, 2024

Multiple things seem to be making Mike Evans sick this week.

First, it’s the lingering stench of last week’s loss to the Falcons. Second, it’s the heinous hurricane that just blew through the greater Tampa Bay area and beyond.

Evans knows how brutal hurricanes can be. Joe heard Evans, years ago, tell the story of his home being destroyed by a hurricane when he was a child.

Speaking to media yesterday in the lead-up to Sunday’s game against the Saints in New Orleans, Evans showed how passionate he is about both subjects.

“We want to get this taste out of our mouth,” Evans said. “You know, obviously, last week we felt like we had that game in hand and offensively we’ve have to do a better job of finishing. So we have to come out with that energy.

“We’re not even just playing for just football now. We’re trying to play for something a little bit bigger. So we got to come out with that mindset to really take advantage of these opportunities.”

Evans went on to express how much he wants those in the path of Hurricane Milton to be safe. He spoke with great urgency in his voice.

Joe hopes Evans’ teammates share his passion. It may sound silly, but a Bucs win Sunday truly would uplift the spirits of tens of thousands who are hurting in the Bucs-fan community. And Joe’s not talking about the pain of the Atlanta loss.

I spent 20 years living in Sarasota and am waiting to hear from my friends. I will be in Sarasota 4 weeks from today and am going to the SF game. Hope to win this game on Sunday. Hard on us when the Bucs lose especially 2 or more in a row.

I don’t know why they keep saying 100 years. I was in my late teens when the eye of a hurricane came through Tampa. I was there in a frame apt, with a balcony. I distinctly remember that eye. I also remember a big one a few years earlier. The phone stayed on and the electricity stayed on. I was foolish and decided to go outside to experience the storm. When I saw a garbage can sailing about 30 feet over my head I was happy that I could open the door and get back inside.

They are saying 100 years since a hurricane came from directly West to East and had winds with storm surge on the South. All the other hurricanes from you being a child came from around key west and the brute force of the wind was from South to North across land in some capacity. Yes the other hurricanes were dangerous as well but it’s not the same.
