Slimy Saints Lose, Derek Carr Hurt
October 8th, 2024The slimy Saints may have lost much more than a ballgame last night.
On Monday Night Football, the Chiefs clobbered the slimy Saints. The score didn’t tell the story. At one point, the Chiefs were 1-of-5 scoring touchdowns in the red zone. They also had a pick in the end zone.
But it may be worse for the slimy Saints, who host the Bucs on Sunday.
Slimy Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr suffered what BSPN reported as an oblique injury. Which side of Carr’s gut suffered the injury might mean a lot.
If Carr suffered is injured on his right side, that would make it awfully tough for him to come back in a week. Throw in that Carr will be trying to get healthy on a short week, Joe is not convinced he will start against the Bucs.
Asked after the game how he was doing, Carr replied, “Not good.” BSPN showed a fourth-quarter throw Carr attempted, after which he hit the turf. While he was on the ground Carr was shown holding his left side.
Carr’s backup, Jake Haener, who was drafted in the fourth round last year, entered Monday’s game never throwing an NFL pass in the regular season.

A Carr-less Saints sounds good to me. Hill is also injured.

After giving Bo Nix the best game of his short career, and jump starting a lifeless Falcons passing game, there is nothing that can convince me at this point that the Bucs pass defense can stop anyone.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:17 am
I’ll take it.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:18 am
Todd Bowles’ Bucs specialize in making inexperienced, camp-fodder QBs look like All-Pros. Best not to get ahead of ourselves.

I want to credit the video linked here:
[YouTube ]
It’s not my video, but I was humbled by Bo Nix a few weeks ago; Haner is a professional quarterback for a reason. I will never again say he “sucks” or anything similar. He plays in the NFL, and any given Sunday you’d hope it would be easier than playing Carr, hopefully.
As for Britt, he is slow. While I wouldn’t be able to beat him in a foot race, he lacks the speed needed at the NFL level. If he were faster, he would likely be much more successful, as he often just misses making the play—not in an egregious way, but still coming up short. So based on that alone and Dean playing 10 yards off we will see hopefully Bowles makes us all feel like a bunch of idiots.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:31 am
If Haener starts, you keep 8 (or even 9) in the box and completely shut down Kamara….
Bowles needs to constantly ZONE BLITZ the hell out of Haener and play MUCH TIGHTER on the outside!! Your hear me Jamel Dean????
If Jamel is too scared to stop giving 10 yard cushions to his man then PUT IN FUNDERBURK!!!! I’m tired of seeing this constant crap from Dean every single week!!
October 8th, 2024 at 12:58 am
I’d rather go against Carr. He’s a check down Charlie that can’t move . The backup is an unknown and is probably going to make our soft azz corners and embarrassingly slow cement shoes wearing MLB look just as bad as they did last week.
HOWEVER, F the Ain’ts Bucs win.

BA’s Red Pen has a point, Carr is slow and not too mobile though the same could b said about Cousins. My worry is that the Bucs let Haener look like Kurt Warner and the ’99 Rams, especially if Britt is starting again and Winfield is still out.
Bucfan1988, good logic but trusting Dean is a risky proposition plus the D could come out flat like they did against Denver and let this no name QB still move the ball like they did with Nix in the Broncos embarrassment.
So, what Hearty Nickerson says is right: with Bowles running the D, do not expect the slam dunk win, especially if Winfield is out, Britt is playing most of snaps creating a pocket for completions in the middle and Kancey is still missing in action and Vea not on the field at crucial moments as he is not a full time player.

Most Bucs fans know we need to face all the weak opponents they can to stay above .500. Bowles just can’t coach and with an injured Carr he still may lose.
October 8th, 2024 at 1:57 am
Awesome. Maybe J. DEAN can line up 16 yards off the ball now to ensure nothing over top………
October 8th, 2024 at 2:05 am
Carr was good enough to have a winning streak.
We just lucked out. Maybe.
I suppose it depends on how distracted the players are after the hurricane.
October 8th, 2024 at 2:42 am
If Taysum Swill and Carr are out, I like the Bucs chances.
October 8th, 2024 at 2:57 am
Bucs could have 5 guys back from injuries. We need them.
October 8th, 2024 at 3:29 am
Look for lots of dirty cheap shots from the Saints vs. the Bucs. It’s what they do.
October 8th, 2024 at 4:43 am
In 2023 Carr had injuries and I think two concussions. An MRI today will let us know how serious this injury is and the Bucs can plan from there. The good thing is the Bucs will be there today. They can begin practicing soon.
I don’t know much about the Saints backup QB and don’t wish any type of injury on any players. However, Derek is 33 and has a lot to think about if he is going to be out for a while. It will be two years in a row with injuries for him.
Agree with Joe in Michigan too. Never underestimate the Saints, especially under their dome either. They are dirty and the dome will be loud and furious.
Hoping the Bucs do what they did when they played the Eagles after Hurricane Helene. They can win this. Go Bucs!
October 8th, 2024 at 4:45 am
Still probably healthier than us.
October 8th, 2024 at 4:59 am
Yea, because we have done so well against rookie and young back ups. 😒
October 8th, 2024 at 5:13 am
Always HATE 2 hear a player, in this case Carr got hurt
BUT LUV UR title Joe!!
October 8th, 2024 at 5:41 am
HA! A rookie 4th round qb without much experience against this Bowels D? Yeah ive seen this too many times before!!!! He will pick us apart and we’ll lose by 7 right at the end because thats the way it goes in todds world….we BETTER take this serious!!!!!
October 8th, 2024 at 5:42 am
I don’t like it. We usually get shredded by unproven young QBs.
October 8th, 2024 at 5:45 am
No celebrating ANYTHING dummies, toes on the line eyes and ears wide open and no dumb penalties….. sorry im force to tell you this since todd won’t do it…. Get your heads out of you know what and play smart nancy boys!
October 8th, 2024 at 5:48 am
Ha, i cant post, and not even cursing, lol all good
October 8th, 2024 at 5:50 am
I guess calling out weakness with a certain term is a nono, ok, now i know nan cey ( not you joes)
October 8th, 2024 at 6:34 am
Haven’t we learned anything from the past it doesn’t matter who is a QB Bowles will make them look like good either way.
October 8th, 2024 at 6:41 am
Oh come on now. The Bucs will still find away to lose the game Carr or no Carr.
October 8th, 2024 at 6:47 am
No worries: Todd’s defense is coming to the rescue!
A hurt Derek Carr or a nobody’s unknown QB? Do not lose your faith!! Play the Bucs and throw all night to open wide Wars with no fear against Todd’s D!!
October 8th, 2024 at 6:48 am
WRs, I mean
October 8th, 2024 at 6:54 am
Somehow I am more worried about a rookie QB vs Bowles
October 8th, 2024 at 6:59 am
The ONE thing a rookie QB feels comfortable with is throwing deep one on one, nothing to diagnose there. Hopefully we don’t let that happen
October 8th, 2024 at 7:29 am
Bowles is 11-6 against rookie QBs as the Bucs DC. He already coached a win against Jayden Daniels this season. There are no excuses to lose this game.
October 8th, 2024 at 7:41 am
Hate to see any team lose their QB
Jake Haener’s final year had a 72% Completion Rate and passer rating of 158.6. 20-3 TD/INT. Also ran 46 times for -123 yards. Looks like a Pocket Passer second week in a row. Then there’s Ridder who loves to sling it. Bucs D surely wont struggle against either of the Saints back ups.
Bucs should go from Road dogs to favorites by game time should Carr be a No Go.
October 8th, 2024 at 8:04 am
If we had just sealed the win in ATL…
October 8th, 2024 at 8:06 am
As usual agree with Joe in Michigan and HeyJude
Yes Carr not playing is good news but not great IMHO. The Saints still have enough talent to beat the Bucs in their Dome.
Meanwhile since we’re on QB’s. Deshaun Watson, one of the most colossal NFL mistakes and the reason the Bucs lucked into Baker, is sucking out loud!!!
There are increasing calls for Jameis!!! As much as I struggle to forgive JW for his selfish arrogance and ALL the damage he did to the Bucs with his off season lack of character and his in season cement head, I do not dispute has talent.
I’ve always believed if “Fameis” could ever grow up and somebody could figure a way to compensate for his lack of brains, he could succeed in the NFL.
N.O. wasn’t the spot but Cleveland could be. My son is MORE than disgusted with the Watson move and tells me fans are clamoring for Jameis. He could get an honest opportunity there. If he’s grown up he could emerge as a real NFL QB.
October 8th, 2024 at 8:48 am
In theory this sounds great. However knowing Bowles the way we do and have seen his damn defense will some how make a unknown QB look like Dan Marino.
October 8th, 2024 at 9:01 am
As long as Dean is in the game Carr can complete passes.
October 8th, 2024 at 9:08 am
Let’s hope we didn’t forget to bring our lawn chairs pass defense.
October 8th, 2024 at 9:10 am
Saints lose Carr ? Then its win for us ! 4-2 ! We would have beat them with Carr Go Bucs !!
October 8th, 2024 at 9:20 am
A quote from Carr stated that the injury didn’t come from the hit…but the throwing motion so I assume it’s his right side….and that may be worse than a hit.
October 8th, 2024 at 9:36 am
Great.
Another no-name gets a chance to light up the Bucs butter-soft pass D.
We have been there before…
October 8th, 2024 at 9:38 am
Doesn’t matter do many times we have been shredded by backups
October 8th, 2024 at 10:30 am
stpetebucfan – Your son is 100% right about Watson and the Browns. Most of their fans did not want Watson. They loved Baker. Luckily, our guy now. Maybe Jameis will end up finding his fit with them after all. I recently read an article on WaPo about Watson settling with the 24th woman now. The Haslams should be ashamed.
I don’t know much about the Saints backup QB. But, you never know how he could end up doing on Sunday if he plays.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:30 pm
I’m praying Carr makes a quick recovery. The back-ups expose Bowles soft D.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:31 pm
Amen Bucsfan1988.
October 8th, 2024 at 12:36 pm
Wasn’t impressed with the Saints last night. Carr or Haener shouldn’t matter. After the dropped ball in ATL Thursday Bucs will be hungry. It might be a shame Carr is out if that line flips. Bucs at +money was looking good to me about 10 pm last night.
October 8th, 2024 at 2:50 pm
It’s nothing that an ultra soft Todd Bowles zone can’t cure!
October 8th, 2024 at 3:18 pm
I’d rather he not be injured. I don’t want us beating up on cripples (even if we are playing crippled due to our own injuries).
I’d rather we face everybody at full strength… At their best. And beat their a$$ 🤘🏼
October 8th, 2024 at 3:57 pm
“Carr’s backup, Jake Haener, who was drafted in the fourth round last year, entered Monday’s game never throwing an NFL pass in the regular season.” – We’re doomed.
October 8th, 2024 at 4:12 pm
@Larrd: Bowles is the best friend a rook QB agent could have…
October 8th, 2024 at 11:41 pm
Too true, CB. He wants to dazzle them with exotic zone schemes but they don’t seem to notice. They are just happy to play without a pass rush.
October 9th, 2024 at 4:11 am
After Bob Stoops the Sooners hired his OC Lincoln Riley. The QB whisperer. Coached Baker Mayfield. Replaced Spencer Rattler with Caleb Williams. At halftime of the Texas game. End of Rattler at OU. Rattler isn’t as good as Williams. But Rattler has a strength and that is a big time arm. He can sling it. And he’s on the Saints payroll. I don’t know if he’s gonna play Sunday but if he does we had better get some pressure on him and quick like.
