Did the Bucs look ready Thursday night?
Yeah, the offense did. Logan Hall sure did. Lavonte David was born ready.
But the Bucs defense sure as hell wasn’t ready for Kirk Cousins. Not when he never had to leave the pocket yet still hung 509 yards on the Bucs.
Appalling!
With the slimy Saints game looming a week from today, Todd Bowles seems to use these extra couple of days the Bucs have to make sure the Bucs defense has plays to slow Derek Carr.
“If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best,” Bowles said after Thursday’s loss. “And we understand that. We’ll be ready for them, and we’ll get ready next week.”
Joe hopes like heck Bowles and his coaches find a way to prevent Carr from hanging 500 yards on his defense.
Maybe use your edge rushers to — you know — rush the passer?
Maybe tell Jamel Dean if he doesn’t stop giving receivers massive cushions then he can start giving receivers all the cushion his heart desires while he’s on the sideline with Kyle Trask.
And for heaven’s sake, if K.J. Britt is not up to playing linebacker full-time in the NFL and is getting targeted by Carr like JFK sitting in a convertible limo in Dallas, then get him off the field and try J.J. Russell.

The offense played in the heat too and they were just fine so can’t use the Philly game as an excuse

Listen the Bucs lost for two reasons. 1) Taking the ball out of baker, Evans & Godwins hands. 2) The defense was doomed to give up major yardage and points the moment the coaching staff decided to roll with KJ Britt in Nickel.
Both of those combined earned the Bucs a loss.

I felt really bad about this loss but when I considered the fact that we had 3 pivotal players out on defense and 2 on offense and still took this game down to the wire, I now feel like better ball is ahead of us. I realize that 1 player, (Britt, Logan Ryan) can cripple a defense and the absence of 1 player (Winfield), let alone 3 (plus Kancey and Dennis) is huge. So, when we get those players back we will be a very good team.

Bowles is a good HC/DC when he is aggressive and doesn’t use much zone and a terrible HC/DC when he is conservative and using his terrible zone defense.
Seems like a pretty simple solution to me!

I mentioned the mismatch with Britt vs the Falcons ability to work the field and make us chase. Again I don’t like this match up with Kamara, Rasheed, and Hill. Britt is an above average tackle between the tackles but a poor tackler when chasing and we definitely know about his coverage ability.

Will Jamal Dean ever again catch an interception? It’s been over 2 seasons now since he caught his last interception. Dude is a 14.66 mil cap hit to the team this season.

Bucs are the only team that their CBs & Safeties do not get interceptions. I am tired of seeing other NFL teams make incredible interceptions when the ball is in or close to them. Can we teach our guys to get interceptions?

We all know that the entire NFL saw the Bucs defensive debacle Thursday night. Every single team we play until the Bucs show they can stop it is throwing down the middle. KJ Britt is an absolute liability and from the second play of the game Cousins went after him. I don’t have much confidence in Bowles to fix the problem without some kind of major move by Licht to trade for a coverage linebacker.

We often complain about players like Izien and Dean but do you remember Sabby Piscitelli? Brian Griese (had the pleasure of watching him in Denver first) I mean at least Baker seems to me to be a legitimate quarterback of the future, especially if he can maintain consistency; that’s the one thing he’s missing, in my opinion. The offense needs to carry the team, which is understandable given the constraints of the salary cap.
Ultimately, that last game came down to a fumble and a clear facemask that went uncalled. Those types of penalties need to be reviewed, especially in pivotal moments, or conspiracy theories will inevitably arise, even if it’s just for fun. After all, that’s what the internet and football are for entertainment.

Bucs were as ready as they could be with 13 defensive players. We were right there. This is a good team, well coached. I agree with 6-4 or 7-3 after ten.

I’d take any of the backup linebackers over Britt. Bowels praises him for plugging up holes in the run game but that’s because he’s so slow by the time everyone is moving he’s still stuck in the same spot. He can’t cover, i rarely see him make a play in the run game which is what he’s supposed to be good at and he clearly got targeted last game as cousins completely gouged the middle of our defense. Please take this guy off the field he’s not athletic whatsoever and IMO dosent even make a good backup LB. Keep players like this on the field multiple weeks in a row after they’ve proved nothing but a spot on the bench is the reason this team loses. Get him off the field and find a new reliable linebacker that can at least run faster than the 350lb defensive linemen on the field.

Tripod Todd misusing Rick Flair’s quote. Are the Saints the best then? His defense sure made the Falcons & Kissin’ Cousins look like the best of all time. I’m afraid Bowles hit his coaching ceiling last year…actually overachieved at times during the 2nd half of the season. Expectations are now lowered…as they should be.

Ole Todd “Jeff Fisher” Bowles needs to get this team ready so they don’t finish around .500 again. The D was a joke Thursday. Cousins hadn’t done anything all year and the d let him do whatever he wanted. Need a real D end if we plan on going anywhere in the playoffs. You either play to win and get the players we need or this will be another Jeff Fisher .500 team.

The defense was embarrassed. They will most likely respond by having another hair on fire performance like the Detroit game. Problem is that level of intensity can’t be matched week in and week out, and it shouldn’t need to be….
I’ve seen improvement in areas that were concerns at the start of the season, namely the new OC, the O-line, consistentcy from Baker, improved run game.
BUT. We can’t cover and we can’t get a rush so we may have to score 40+ per game to win.
How about we here some ideas for solutions from you “experts” instead of just bitching about the HC, GM, QB, LB etc etc.. How can we play the cards we have to win this season? Serious question!
Can we find help at LB?
What about playing “dime”, can we hold up against the run with it?

Why is everyone acting like the Bucs are still in the lead in the division. Yes the birds have 2 division wins, but they will do what birds do. They have been lucky so far, a dropped pass by Saquon Barkley and they lose to the Eagles, the beat the Saints without scoring an offensive TD so I am not sure what that says about either team. I’m not down on the Bucs, but I may be down on KJ Britt. But Bowles has a plan without Dennis, he will go to another safety or nickel in the game instead of a slow linebacker on passing situations (they just have to tackle)

I respect Bowles. We have players out on injuries, some seem banged up and still playing, and then there have been some sicknesses. Not making excuses, but we are doing pretty darn good with all those things going against us. Go Bucs!

Britt’s issue is speed, and there’s no fixing that. Also, his one alleged strong suit was tackling, but he has been awful at as well. He needs to be off the team, ASAP. He’s this years version of Ryan Neal and is killing the defense.

Sounds to me like he gave the team the rest of the week off, after a humiliating mid-week loss. Cuz why do any extra preparation after your defense gave up 500+ yards to a statue?
Fun fact: 50% of Kirk Cousin’s passing touchdowns this season (4) were all scored against us on Thursday.

The exact book/scouting report on Britt was “too slow for NFL…special teamer at best.” He’s been exposed like Irv at a bath house ( not that there’s anything wrong with that ). No easy answer/Roquan Smith type out there available for trade.

Man, the refs changing the outcome of the Falcons game is madding. They literally stole the Bucs being in 1st place in the NFL South from them, gave the Falcons a 2-0 record in the division, and now the Bucs are behind the Redskins in the standings chart as well.
What a complete and total cluster. The game was over if they make the obvious call, and all the whinning is gone.
Worse the Bucs now face the Ravens, probably will be in like Indianapolis or something as the Bucs will lose a home game because of the weather – and what’s the likelihood they pull out a W in that scenario vs one of the hottest teams in football.
The Bucs could quickly find themselves in a huge hole and it’s 100% on the refs for changing the outcome of that game. Can’t wait until we get that apology email from the NFL on Wednesday that says, oops, our bad, tough luck.

Seriously, look at the RAS (Relative Athletic Score) of Antonio Grier Jr., Lavonte David, Sirvocea Dennis, Kwon Alexander, and throw in KJ Britt just for fun. While it can’t measure mental abilities, the science, the math, and now the eye test suggest that one of these players can’t compete in the NFL. We have options; why not use them?

His players are not held accountable and he doesn’t make in game adjustments. The Denver game showed he doesn’t know how to prepare the team and the Falcons game shows he doesn’t know how to win. I agree with the conservative comments…. Does anyone else find it infuriating how Arians always preached no risk it no biscuit yet Bowles is the most conservative coach in football history it seems? How does that make any sense? Not to mention, Bowles entire reason for being the coach is his “defensive mind” and he allowed cousins to hang over 500 on us? How many times we have heard the same words after a bad loss.
Nothing will change because the mentality and the philosophy of this team (coaching) is not changing.
Bend but dont break. You cant continue to give up 400+ or 500+ yards and expect to win. Yes if you can make a few plays now and then maybe you will win some like the Detroit game but this is not a recipe for success.
You cant continue give up so many yards and believe it is not a problem.
No consistent pass rush when you rush with 4 and always soft coverage.
It is not working. But we have seen that will not change because it is the philosophy.
Yes maybe they will be ready and play good but we will see the same things again after a couple of games. We will see a QB having his career game against this Defense and we will hear the same words again.
Consistently inconsistent.

I was bringing up that same thing about the team should turn to Grier, not JJ Russell as he looks slow as heck, just like Britt. Not sure Grier is actually a good player since we’ve only seen him vs scrubs in the preseason, but at least he seemingly has a little more speed.
Also, look at the RAS of Devin White, 4.42 40 vs about 4.99 for Britt (estimated based on film).
Anywho, whenever I write the G-man’s name, the post fails to go through, no idea why. Lets see if this goes through or not…

The secondary sucks. A high school team could l beat them! Jamal Dean slips every time he gets beat. The secondary got torched for over 500 yd. The defense got tired and the coach didn’t call a timeout he had all three time out in his pocket! The offense need to keep their foot on the gas pedal and finish the game stop being conservative towards the end of the game. I hope things change. Sincerely I used to be die hard fan!!!! Know I just hope…

Munch ^^^ is absolutely correct In my opinion. The data on RAS is often underrated, and the individual running the site has valuable insights. There are several free agents the Bucs could consider. If you sort linebackers on his site from 2020 to 2024, you’ll find that many of the top players are performing well with their respective teams, and some are available as free agents.
One notable player excelling in Canada is Ben Hladik, while Bo Richter, who went undrafted out of the Air Force, Rates highly and being in the Air Force you assume he has high intelligence. My main point is that Grier Jr. rates similarly to Lavonte and Sirvocca in terms of physical attributes. Although Devin White had a physical edge ober them all, so it raises the question of whether Grier Jr. fully understands the scheme yet. Maybe there are concerns that he might be as faster but could end up in the wrong position more often than the right one??? I don’t know but Britt was putrid…
