Baker Mayfield On Pace For 37 Touchdowns, 6 Interceptions And 3,957 Yards Passing

October 4th, 2024

Baker Mayfield played a heck of a game last night during the groin-stomp overtime loss to the Falcons. That’s back-to-back strong games for the Bucs quarterback, which is exactly what the organization wants from him.

Stay consistent. Protect the football. Make plays.

The Bucs have now scored 30 or more points in three of their first five games. Tonight’s 30 represents back-to-back 30-plus games, something the Bucs only did once last season. And Tampa Bay scored a touchdown on its opening drive for the second consecutive week, something the Bucs didn’t do all of last season.

Tampa Bay is averaging 25.4 points per game. That average would have ranked eighth-best in the NFL last season when Tampa Bay finished the season ranked 20th in points scored.

Mayfield himself is on a 2024 pace for 37 touchdown passes, 6 interceptions and 3,957 yards, in addition to a 71.9 percent completion rate. That absolutely would represent a career year for Mayfield.

Mayfield scrambled impressively tonight and his escapability has been good all season.

It’s not quarterback play holding back the Bucs, and that bodes very well for the long haul of this season.

Baker and Liam learned a valuable lesson tonight. And that bodes very well for the long haul of this season. We might lose a few more games this season. But not many.

Baker is playing lights out. His pocket awareness has been fantastic. He’s scrambling when he needs to and making great decisions with the ball. He’s truly our MVP right now. I hope he can continue to be aggressive but protect himself bc Trask would not last behind this O-line. Baker has avoided so many sacks while still taking a lot. But his red zone production has been awesome and he’s really limiting the turnovers. Keep it up, Bake! Maybe the line will improve throughout the season and we can get the running game going so Baker doesn’t have to do it all.

The man deserved better tonight. BA as head coach, Bucs score at the end and put it away.

Baker is playing lights out, as BigPoppa says. Looks like he needs to produce 40 burgers to have a chance to win as long as the defensive uncoordinator decides that allowing 85% completion rates over the middle at 20 yards a clip is better than a few going over your head.

Pathetic. Jason – time for you to do a performance review of your coaches’ game management skills.

It is such a shame that the OC (likely under the strong advice from Turtle Todd) did not simply dial up a couple of plays utilizing Baker and his stellar wide receivers. Turtle Todd will always find ways to lose winnable games with his play not to lose mentality. I am curious if the OC Coen will take responsibility for going turtle to cover for his boss? Mayfield already took the high road and said he left points on the field when you know several qbs in the league would throw their D or their coaching staff under the bus, imagine what Aaron Rodgers would say if he was done by Saleh the way Turtle Todd did Baker by handcuffing him at the end by going turtle?!??!? Baker is classy and accountable, now I have my doubts about Coen and as far as accountability goes, it is not a strong point with Turtle Todd!

That’s the only thing I take away from this game

That was the major thing I took from this game for sure! But it’a not the only thing.

Hall had two sacks! Yaya continues to grow and the D appears solid WHEN healthy.

Winfield is the straw that stirs the drink. The single player most responsible for the Bucs making the playoffs last year. I fear without him the Bucs are a good team but have no chance at greatness. Winfield is great perhaps the best in the league at a position that has a real chance to change games as Winfield did single handedly a couple of times last year.

Last night sucked! THE BUCS AND BOWLES DO NOT! Now we have to hope the Bucs do not fall into the same trap as so many posters here. The Bucs suck, Bowles blows, and let this game’s disappointment carry over to the Saints.
    That’s the real test.

It was a good game between two relatively evenly matched teams on the opponents field with a loud raucus crowd. IF Winfield and Kancey were on the field healthy these two teams are not evenly matched.

And while I respect Cousins more than most here, he is an old dude who can only win if he gets great protection, a strong running game and great receivers.
He has the receivers and running game!

But one thing Cousins cannot do is literally carry a team with his arm AND his legs and his GUTS. Baker is the real deal.

Did people notice what a big deal they made on the broadcast of what Baker watches before the game. Videos of Mike Tyson!!! What freaking QB does that?
Baker has the DOG in him. My hope is that Trask is half as good his fanbois suggest because I think we’ll see him before the season is over.

I love Baker’s play but there’s a reason Brady never played like that and it’s not just a lack of similar sized cojones although that’s part of it, it’s the knowledge that a team needs it’s QB more than any individual play.

Who freakng cares. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead Baker. That style of play not only moves the chains it INSPIRES the rest of the team.

First of all one thing nobody has been talking about has been KJ Britt he was probably the cause of the first touchdown of the game as he was a liability and coverage on two plays one that led to a long game and another one on touchdown.

With Dennis being on injured reserve for the next four weeks I think teams are going to pick us apart up the middle especially if Winfield is not back by next game.
I think it’s time to find a inside linebacker who is also good in coverage perhaps on a team that started the year poorly and has no chance at the playoffs. Trade a fifth or sixth round pick and fix that because this will lead to more losses.

I also think we need to get Tyler Funderburk some reps had corner because Dean is regressing.

  10. Gipper Says:

Baker will have 4500 yards passing this season. Realistically 35TD and 10INT and 68% completion % is very doable. Bucs really don’t have a great running attack. Would like to see more of Tucker with Vita Vea used in goal line blocking situations. Would be fun to run play action at goal line and dump it to Vita. Mayfield is NOT and NEVER has been a problem for Bucs, Baker brought back the team late in a couple of games last year and we saw last night’s defense give those games away.

  11. Saskbucs Says:

Well said StPete. Bucs were in control of that entire game until it fell apart in last 1:30. Falcons had to do everything in their power including 58 pass attempts just to keep it close.

They were missing 2 LB and a C. We were missing 2 Pro Bowlers on D along with many others. Falcons brought everything that they had and almost lost. They won their SB. If Bucs get healthy, Winfield and Kancey in that game make it 40-24.

More fuel for the Bucs fire. If they don’t get healthy well the season will be tough but it’s not because this isn’t a great team.

A third reason to beat the Saints is that they are the “Slimy” Saints
