“Most Of Them Come In And Talk About Vita Vea First”

October 2nd, 2024

There have been a couple of parades at One Buc Palace during the past two offseasons that served as a great learning experience for Bucs officials.

No, it wasn’t fans demanding reasonably priced beers or more than one training camp date open to the public, or fans pleading for parking rates that don’t induce depression.

It was a trail of offensive coordinator candidates being interviewed by head coach Todd Bowles and the front office.

Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek dropped an interesting nugget about those visits yesterday on the Buccaneers Radio Network and it ties to manbeast Bucs defensive tackle Vita Vea.

“I think a lot of times the dirty work that he does is taking for granted because he’s not on a fantasy roster and people don’t focus on that as much. But I promise you he dictates so much of what happens B-gap to B-gap, whether it’s run or pass,” Spytek said of Vea.

“And the offense coordinators that we’ve spoken with, you know, interviewed the last several years. … Most of them come in and talk about Vita first. They are very aware of him. And I’m sure when the Eagles saw him trending toward playing [Sunday,], they weren’t super excited about that.”

Vea is often a game-changer when he’s on the field. Bucs fans witnessed that again Sunday. And that’s the mark of a truly great defensive player, one that keeps playcallers up at night.

The Falcons, tomorrow night’s opponent, love to run up the middle with Tyler Allgeier and Bijan Robinson. Hopefully, Vea’s bad knee held up strong after Sunday.

I wonder if these OC candidates aren’t also dreaming of plucking him off the defensive side and using him as a full back.
Definitely one possible answer for an improved run game.

Vita is a beast! Can’t wait for national audience to be re-introduced to him Thursday night.

With Dalman and hopefully McGary out, Vea and Diaby should be looking forward to this one. Played Goff but I would say this is first game the Bucs have a sitting duck back there at QB. A healthy Kancey could have wrecked this game.

    Sask,

Looking forward to seeing this in a few more weeks. Given the way this injury went for him last year, I fully expect he’ll be back after the mini bye week. I feel like Christmas got delayed not getting to watch him on opening day. I’m so pumped to see what he’s going to unleash on opposing QB’s.

Vea looked great last week. Sounds like he could’ve played week 3, but our coaches played it safe. He looked like he had a lot of energy and the knee was an after thought. Vea might take over this game.

J … ‘Sounds like he could’ve played week 3, but our coaches played it safe.’

I think there’s a good chance that they did opt to play it safe in sitting Vea for the Denver game. Then again, when your offense only scores 7 points, your odds of winning against just about any NFL team aren’t really that good. Sure am glad he was ready for the Eagles’ game.

It is hilarious how many fans just watch the offensive skill guys and think they know football Joe.

Vea, LVD and AWJ do dictate what offenses do. Diaby is starting to be a guy that offenses game plan around. Same with McCollum. Sure wish Kancey was out there. His quickness gives us a different dimension for OCs to worry about.

    Go Bucs!

Vita Vea is a warrior unlike the little sissy Callijah Kancey. How utterly embarrassing that Kancey can’t play after more than a month sitting on his fat ass with a soft tissue calf injury AGAIN.
Teammates must be looking sideways at Kancey at this point. He’s a bum. Straight up bum.

Grade 2 MCLs generally heal in 7-10 days but was happy they gave him extra time.

Hope he stays healthy from now on
