Vita Vea: Eagles’ Triple-Team Was An Accident

October 1st, 2024

One cool thing about covering the Bucs is that their stars don’t beat their chests and woof about how good they are like guys on other teams.

Not Bucs players. Take Vita Vea, for example. The guy was a total beast against the Eagles. They struggled with him all day on Sunday.

In one play, which Brian Baldinger of NFL Network highlighted on his Twitter account, Vea is triple-teamed by the Eagles.

You don’t see that often. If an offense is triple-teaming a defender, that means at least one other defender is roaming free.

So Joe told Vea about the clip of him getting triple-teamed and how often that happened Sunday. Vea right away said he is convinced that play was a mistake and that he was not the intended target when three Eagles’ offensive players ganged up on him.

“I think that just happened,” Vea said with a huge smile on his face. “I don’t think that was a true triple-team.

“I think the back — K.J. [Britt] was right behind me — I think the back was eyeing K.J.

“If you look at a certain part of the film, it looks like I’m getting triple-teamed. But, I’m really not.”

Now most dudes would be crowing about how — as Keyshawn Johnson would say — “It takes three!” to stop him. But no, Vea said quite honestly, that really didn’t happen.

Joe appreciates Vea’s candor and setting Joe straight.

But still, if Vea said he was being triple-teamed, the way he plays, that’s entirely believable.

It’s one of the things I appreciate most about the Bucs. For me showing a little class entertains me as much as anything other than winning itself.

It’s just the way I was brought up. My parents (well my mom, dad was not around much), coaches, teachers, “my societal group” all taught me the same thing!!!

If you say something about how great your performance was it’s irrelevant!!!
If somebody else says how great you are then perhaps you did turn in a great performance. To me running your mouth is a tell of fear and a fake confidence.

And it’s not just my family/teachers/coaches etc. It was in sports when I was young. The guy I consider the GREATEST NFL PLAYER of all time, Jimmy Brown NEVER wolfed. In fact he would hobble back to the huddle, never hustle, always giving the appearance he had the snot knocked out of him.

When asked why he didn’t run back and why each time it looked as if he was blasted he revealed just what a competitor he was and his BRAINS (he later became a movie star and activist) to come up with some gamemanship.

He said simply if he looked as if he was hurt on EVERY play the opposition could never really know when he was actually hurt. He didn’t want to give the opposing D’s any edge whatsoever and his “macho” reputation wasn’t as important to the great Jimmy Brown as his freaking SUCCESS!!!

Love Baldinger’s breakdowns but I am not sure about all the humping he’s seeing.

I just watched a Vita highlight against the Falcons (I think) when BA was still coaching. He looked like he was going to block and instead ran into the end zone free and caught a pass for a TD. I sure would love to see that play again.

I wish the Bucs drafted Tvondre Sweat. Him + Vea would be ridiculous.

    Great film!!

Can’t wait to get KANCEY next to him!

Noticed LVD and JTS shadowing VV in those clips. If those 3 are 100% healthy and fired up, Raheem Morris better bring his A+ game. It still might not be enough. Go Bucs!!

  9. Bartow Buc Says:

Vita would definitely make a great refrigerator ( William Perry 72 ) for short yardage situations. But our offense is so talented and has so many weapons, resulting in so many ways to score, we don’t need that kind of offensive help. When Vita is healthy, the Bucs defense plays incredibly well, as exemplified by the performance against the Eagles. I am confident our defense will play well against the Falcons. In fact the Falcons have not played a defense as solid and well coached as the Buccaneers defense. Bucs Win !! Bucs Win !! L G !!

    Love Baldy…
That last clip when he just folds that tackle in half……….

Vea is incredible. If we we had decent pass rushers, they would be racking up sacks because of all the focus Vea draws.

Just an absolute annihilator in the middle of that line.

I agree he was trying to get to Britt. However look at all the places they lined the big man up! Incredible! Most guys only line up at one…Maybe two rarely.

There have been only three guys on the Bucs defense who have been regularly doubled and only one who was regularly tripled. I’m sure others have occasionally been double teamed but not like Vea, Sapp and Selmon.

Dave Pear (he was a beast) gets an honorable mention here. But he was helped by lining up next to a legend.

Lee Roy Selmon was almost always at least doubled. At the Sombrero I saw him beat triple teams and make the tackle/sack on quite a few occasions. Many newer fans do not know this, nor appreciate just how strong he was. He truly was unblockable one on one.

They had to many times double Sapp but that usually left Simeon one on one so it was pick your poison.

    Go Bucs!

  13. Bucs Guy Says:

2025 first round pick will be a DT. Why?
    1. The Bucs were ready to pick a DT in 2024 if Barton wasn’t there.
    2. Kancey injuries.
    3. Hall lack of production.
    4. Gaines and Gholston age.

Need to start watching for DTs on Saturdays. Other needs in FA or the draft are DE, G, ILB and TE. Lower priority needs include depth at T, ILB, CB, QB and WR.
