The Pass Rush Finally Woke Up

September 29th, 2024

Records first sack of season.

When Logan Hall gets a sack, you know the pass rush is working.

Hall, a former high second-round pick, has been largely an empty body since being drafted in 2022. Hall has played a lot, started 13 games last year, but had but a half-sack before today stretching back to his rookie season.

Yet his sack late today, coming when the Eagles were frantically trying to get back in the game, was the icing on the cake of a pass rush.

The Bucs had six sacks — six!

The pass rush had been so miserable, they had zero sacks since Week 1.

How bad was the Bucs’ pass rush? Joe thought a bet on the total sacks of today’s game (under-5.5) was a cinch. The Eagles weren’t an overly talented pass rush team, either.

Instead, the Bucs alone crushed the under-5.5 with six sacks of their own! Joe lost; the Bucs won. So in the long run, Joe won. 🙂

Ageless Lavonte David had two sacks. Vita Vea, Anthony Nelson, YaYa Diaby and Hall each had one.

See what happens when a defense gets a pass rush? That allows a defense to dominate. And for the first half and most of the fourth quarter, the Bucs did just that.

Long live the sack!

#90 was soooo happy when he got it too lol

  2. Fernando Says:

The front played their ass off in that heat

  3. Mat Martin Says:

Too bad we do not get to face the Eagles and Jalen Hurts every week. The dude is completely helpless against Todd Bowles defense.

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

It looks a whole hell of a lot different with Vita in there.

  5. Leopold Stotch Says:

Vea makes a huge difference. Once CK comes back we’ll be cookin

  6. Brian in St Pete Says:

I think few people realize the difference that Vea makes when he plays. He may not blow away the stat sheet, but NOBODY makes this defense work like he does. Maybe our most underrated player.

  7. unbelievable Says:

Quite a difference when you blitz w/ Lavonte David instead of KJ Britt, eh?

  8. Rod Munch Says:

They actually blitzed David today — and stayed aggressive, didn’t go into Bowles garbage super soft zone he’s been so found of playing.

Unfortunately I think it’s just a one off. I was listening to the Eagles post-game to hear their stupid fans crying (and they were), and one of the guys doing their radio show made a good point. He talked about how Brady mentioned that Hurts stinks under pressure – and the Philly radio guy pointed out that Brady isn’t watching every Hurts game to know that – he got that from the Bucs staff, which is almost certainly correct.

So if the Bucs staff knows Hurts is terrible under pressure, what we saw today was probably a one off, and it’s back to the garbage super soft zone. Would love to be wrong, but I’ll need to see it to believe it. Then again, Bowles didn’t didn’t sit on the lead today – which is something I’ve never seen before, so maybe he’s a changed man after getting embarrassed by the Broncos.

Detroit sacked US 6 times and lost the game, because they failed to score in the Red Zone. Sacks are important, but teams has been clicking on all cylinders to win in the NFL!!

  10. LakelandBuc Says:

The Bucs were hitting on all cylinders today

    Except special teams

  11. Hodad Says:

YaYa might’ve had 2, but he was held on a sure one with no call. Still watching him, he doesn’t have great speed, to power. Braswell on the other hand looked much stronger to me.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

I’m already looking at Atl and I think the Bucs lost Voss today for awhile. His arm was in a sling on the sideline. Britt being put on Kyle Pitts or called to cover Allgier or Bjian gives me nightmares. Palmer will miss atleast the ATL game with a concussion. Who knows if McMillan will come back from a hammy.

Hopefully Kancey makes his return to practice tomorrow and shows out on Thursday night.

  13. Hodad Says:

It’s hard to count on Dennis, kid can’t stay healthy. Hasn’t made it through a training camp, let alone a 17 game season. Bucs are going to have to draft an ILB high next year, or sign, trade for a good backer. If David goes down we’re screwed.

  14. Creamsicle Says:

This is something I really wanted to see today, couldn’t be happier to see these players gets sacks. Hurts was never comfortable back there. I hope this same energy translates to the Thursday night game.

    Go Bucs!

  15. Creamsicle Says:

When ck is back this defense will be scary, only weak point I see is Britt at this point and now Dennis is injured. Could be some concern there because offenses are going to exploit Britt’s speed if we don’t have a solid rotational player for him.

  16. LakelandBuc Says:

**Detroit sacked the Bucs 5 times

  17. LakelandBuc Says:

Atlanta is going down Thursday night

  18. Mveal2006 Says:

The defense still gave up 16 points, right in that 20 or so like most games.

  19. firethecannons Says:

I wish we could get a linebacker to eventually replace LD54 but not sure that will ever be possible. David is that good! Hope he makes HOF. What a team player. I have been watching since 2015 and it has been a pleasure to watch him on this team. He was always good at forced fumbles. Today strip sack was really a massive play–killed any momentum they were about to get.

  20. Saskbucs Says:

Yeah that 2nd LB spot gonna be a problem. Against certain teams we should play Thomas in there. Let him cover and blitz. Weren’t we talking about how he’s a sure tackler and solid special teamer when we signed him?

Not gonna stick him in there vs Barkley or Henry but a team like Dallas maybe the Saints although prolly need a guy with size to take on Taysom.

  21. Saskbucs Says:

Vita is such a massive piece in there. Kancey back healthy and the pass rush will be just fine.

  22. Alstott40 Says:

Vita Vea is the captain on the defensive line and when he’s out like last week you can see it. He’s so vital to this defense and under appreciated, he’s a run stuffer and allows others to make plays when he’s double teamed. So glad Licht picked him and he has stayed a Buc, he’s a monster

  23. Kidfloflo Says:

No way Cancey comes back with a quasi Bi after Falcons game, so we have to do it again with what we got. Winning that one will he huge

  24. Wild Bill Says:

Hoping last week was a fluke and the Bucs are back on track to stay!
