Buccaneers 33, Eagles 16

September 29th, 2024

How bout those 3-1 Buccaneers!

Those fans who buried Tampa Bay after a bizarre hiccup last week were shut up in a hurry today. The Bucs even scored on their opening drive for the first time since the 2022 season. And they scored on their second drive!

That kind of back-to-back magic in the first quarter hadn’t happened since 2021.

Baker Mayfield finished the first half 22-of-33 for 238 yards and 2 touchdowns. Yes, the first half!

Running game? The Bucs didn’t need one today, but it was working when they used it.

Tampa Bay hit the final 2-minute warning with 112 yards rushing. Even Rachaad White put up strong rushing numbers. splitting carries with Bucky Irving.

The Eagles’ offense was undermanned and they looked helpless outside of a couple of big plays. The Bucs defense was physical and rather sound, and hats off to Vita Vea coming back from a sprained knee to look like a manbeast. Vea’s crushing first-half sack of Jalen Hurts got the green-loaded crowd quiet and had Tom Brady in the broadcast booth saying he was so happy to be retired so he didn’t have to take sacks like that.

Again, outside of a couple of plays, the Bucs stopped the run and they stopped the pass. Ballgame.

Todd Bowles team responded to a blowout by delivering a blowout. Joe is fired up!

Yeah, the Bucs got sloppy on special teams. (Thanks, Anthony Nelson.) And clock management was a little shaky, especially late in the first half. But that’s Joe nitpicking.

Dominant win by the Bucs — with six sacks! — but a somewhat weird one with Mayfield throwing 47 passes despite the Bucs winning all game. Joe can only conclude the Bucs are a throw-first team.

Bring on the Falcons!

  7. WiseCrack Says:

    Its simple “CHAD”

Baker had an awesome 2 quarters of football today.

That dont make up for the last 7

  8. Buc4evr Says:

Still pissed off about last week. After watching the Bucs today, they should have never lost against the Broncos. Plus I hate Payton, the guy should have been kicked out of the NFL. Guess he only wanted to injure players but good thing he didn’t send out any politically incorrect emails. lol.

  9. Bartow Buc Says:

Go Bucs !!! Huge win !! Mayfield was sensational !!

  10. Irishmist Says:

    Falcons win!

  13. WiseCrack Says:

Which is on par for his 1 out of 4 record of WINNING FOOTBALL.

Truely HOPING he can be consistent but his RECORD suggest otherwise.

That is all, GO BUCS, and go “bake”??????

  14. A Bucs Fan Says:

Short pass game and outside runs are where this team needs to live.

  15. Let ‘em bake Says:

We have a solid team, only getting healthier. Another solid day from the “middling” qb. 5 and 5 at the bye very realistic now.

What has that got to do with anything? All most of use wanted was for the kid to get a fair chance. It was up to him to do something with it.

And…he still has not gotten that fair shot.

He won’t in Tampa, unless Mayfield (who is reminding me more and more of Drew Brees) gets injured.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Thursday gonna be interesting..

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

Hope Baker improves his down the field accuracy. Evans could have had 3 TD’s today

I wont go off on that cause you just made “Bake” cream in my shorts. Gruden is the GOAT of all REAL MAN head coaches.

  20. Fred McNeil Says:

Honestly…I don’t know WTF to make of that crazy game. Who agrees?

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Top of the division…love it!

  22. Erik w/ UniqueModernArt.com Says:

    Great game!

Imagine if that extra point that got returned would’ve came back to bite us, all because we benched Camarda in favor of that scrub Gill. Camarda woulda ran that dude down in a heartbeat and prevented the 2-pt score.

But it didn’t matter, so who cares.

    LFG

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Six sacks!!! Feel a little better now Joe? Glad the team doesn’t listen to all of us naysayers. We’ve got a good club, and we’ll lose some games. But not many.

  24. LABucsFan Says:

How about that Tom Moore story?! That was a wild

  25. infomeplease Says:

    Next week is Big.

  26. stpetebucfan Says:

“Good bounce back game but Mayfield still SUCKS. His accuracy is trash.”

That’s from “Trasktothefuture”. I genuinely feel sorry for him. His man crush on Kyle has turned him into a whiny little beotch!

So TTF you posted a glimmer of hope that Trask may be traded before the deadline and there are two teams interested. GREAT does that mean you’ll go with Trask to that team and give us here a break from your whiny little hurt fee fees that Kyle hasn’t EARNED an NFL start NOR any interest from other teams in the off season.

Unlike you however I’m a Bucs fan and so if and when Mayfield gets injured I shall become a Trask fan!!!

  27. HC Grover Says:

Great game to watch….Kine like Detroit game.

  28. infomeplease Says:

Correction next 2 weeks are big! 😎

  29. 1#bucsfan Says:

We’ve bin built to pass since we lost Jensen marpet and cappa. Never understood why we cry so much about trying to be a run 1st team. Look if we didn’t have ME13 CG14 Otton and white I’d say we need a run game. Our strength is moving the ball thru the air. When we let mayfield ripp it we do good. Baker is basically a point guard. Let him distribute the ball to his playmakers and when it’s not there he can tuck and run or score. FORGET THE RUN GAME LOL

  30. D-Rome Says:

    Vita Vea made a difference.

  31. Leopold Stotch Says:

    Crow never tasted so good.

  32. WiseCrack Says:

Looking forward to an article a day about our Hall of Fame Line Backer Levonte David.

The dude single handedly won this game for us. WATCH THE ALL22.

Awesome game. Not too much stress which we all needed. Onto Thursday!

  34. Stan says Says:

As usual some fair weather fans. Can we just be happy about 3-1 and being at the top of the division. Baker played awesome today. Hay but what about that DAMN defense people. They kicked the Eagles ass out there today. Enjoy this one and get ready for the Falcons. LFG

  35. Buc4evr Says:

    Carolina is about to lose.

  36. sunny Says:

wisecrack.. lol 1 out of 4 record? you seem to have gotten that backwards there. baker’s record is 3 out of 4 now.

baker (and the bucs) have been consistently winning almost all of their games since after the bye week last season.

the whole team had a bad week last week. it happens. even mahomes and the chiefs have lost games they should have won easily. the week before they won a game they were expected to lose.

the fact that you are still hating on baker when he’s playing lights out football is really kind of sad actually.

  37. Gipper Says:

    stpetebucfan,

You have to understand little guys like Trasktothefuture, MiddlingMunch, and others have a lot of their big egos invested in Mayfield failure. Bucs and Baker played solid today. Need to hold onto more passes is about the only criticism today. Otherwise, great team win.

  38. WiseCrack Says:

    stpetebucfan

IF AND WHEN Trask is the guy. 100% agree

I am a Buc fan. I could care less about the name on the Jersey!!!

Hoping we get the “bake” we got today cause cooking in that stadium for a 1pm game SUCKS otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  39. WiseCrack Says:

    Gipper

you have to realize you are a Baker Shaker who is wanting to be a SIPPER

STFU and enjoy your day FLIPPER

  40. WiseCrack Says:

    sunny.

Good try hunny, enjoy the cream, not trying to be funny.

HOPEFULLY, we can all celebrate together when “Bake” gets his record back to 5 hundy.

Great TEAM WIN today, our HOF line backer deserves the MOST CREDIT

  41. jarrett Says:

    Fire Bowles.

Dude made Bo Nix look like Elway last week

  42. Trask To The Future Says:

    Stpetebucfan,

I was at the game when we won our first Super Bowl back in 2003 (San Diego) were you? I’ve been a Bucs fan since 1976 since the team started. So I’m a bigger Bucs fan than you’ll ever be.

Mayfield has some accuracy & inconsistency issues. Even Brady mentioned it. It was a nice bounce back game for Mayfield and always great to get a Bucs win, but he still doesn’t impress me and has me concerned.

As Bonzai mentioned above, it’s a bit unfair that Trask has never had a fair chance to play with the starters. He has tons of talent and upside, and set many SEC records against top SEC corners that now play in the NFL.

Trask is a good guy and needs to get his chance to see what he can do. Mayfield is NOT the long-term answer to this franchise. I guarantee it. Trask may not be either! But we need to find out what we have in Trask.

  43. D-Rok Says:

    Awesome! Amen!

    Go Bucs ! ! !

  44. Creamsicle Says:

This is what the bucs look like when every player plays up to their expectations. Even logan hall got a sack🤣🤣🤣. Great game from the bucs

  45. Marky Mark Says:

If the receivers can hold on to the ball would have been 40

  46. Gipper Says:

    WiseCrack,

Not sure which is lower your age or IQ? Either way this blog is for Bucs fans, not crude dudes like yourself.

  47. Defense Rules Says:

    D-Rome … ‘Vita Vea made a difference.’

I think he made all the difference in the world D-Rome. I’m convinced that he energized our pass rush by creating tons of inside pressure, and Philly just couldn’t compensate. Loved that LVD got 2 sacks on the day, plus Vea & Hall got 1 each. And oh ya, Nelly & YaYa added 1 each, plus I saw Braswell in there quite a few times adding a lot of pressure. HUGE WIN!

  48. LANshark Says:

Marky Mark – 100% right. There were at least 6 dropped balls today.

  49. Defense Rules Says:

Baker played lights-out in the 1st half (he was 14-of-15 at one poinbt in there; finished 30-of-47 for 347 yards & 2 TDs. By the end of the 1st half, Bucs had a 20 mins – 10 mins TOP advantage and the Eagles’ defense was flat worn out. Bucs ended with a 36:18 to 23:42 TOP advantage; that’s a killer in this heat.

    LFG”

Did you bump your head this morning, how often does a FG get blocked first of all, and secondly Camarda has averaged less than a laughable 38 yards on his punts. He looks like a starving homeless person who doesn’t take care of himself. I’m ok with him not coming back at all

  51. LongSeason Says:

Going to give props to Chaad, Irving, Logan Hall, Skule and the team. Baker looked more decisive getting the ball out. Great job of spreading the ball around. Others deserve a shout out, too. Great team win.

  52. oz len Says:

Coming here as a former Browns fan, if it’s a win, shut your trap and smile.

  53. Zwak Says:

Not sure how long his body will hold up but Vita Vea is a special cat!!

  54. Beeej Says:

Don’t we have somebody who watches each play to see if it looks like a player might have been concussed? I think there’s half a chance we find out Baker suffered a concussion on that first sack

  55. Saskbucs Says:

Couple things I don’t agree with in the comments. Trask hasn’t gotten a fair shot? He shouldn’t have been drafted in the first place by the Bucs and every camp is a fair shot. If he showed he was better than what we had or even on par… they would have given him a shot. The coaches and brass see a lot of play that we do not.

Mayfield downfield accuracy was fine. Slightly to the right on the one over Evans head but he can still catch that. Got his hands on it. Otherwise coverage was solid. The 3rd down fade as Tom mentioned just needed to be released a second earlier a touch higher. This is all nitpicking. He threw one behind Evans… but no QB is perfect. Great day from Baker.

I do agree the Bucs need to stomp throats when they get up. Looked like they may have relaxed a bit after getting up 21 and next thing you know it’s a 10 point game. Safe to say the heat plays a factor there.

Would love to have Goedeke Kancey and Winfield back for Thursday. I hope they are on track for that and it’s been the plan.

  56. Alstott40 Says:

    ^^^^^^^^
Remember that time when Alabama was running it up on Florida and Tyrone Prothro got his leg crushed? College football, but still a lesson to be learned.
Maybe you should follow the Saints, they love running up the score on teams when they can.

  58. B Says:

These guys play significantly better when they are forced to stay at home because of a hurricane and can’t go to ybor the night before

  59. Winny Testaverde Says:

Huffy Hairdresser Hot Rod Mulch can’t pile on Baker today, his crummy attempts at humor with the Team Positive Schtick doesn’t play today ( or ever ) so he acts tough asking why the Bucs don’t run up the score. That never pays off long term and is simply a dumb maneuver.

  60. UKBuccaneer Says:

The comments last week were symptomatic of a fair-weather fanbase. It’s a long season, don’t get too high when you win, don’t get too low when you lose. 3-1 is a good place to be. Go Bucs!

  61. Bartow Buc Says:

Can’t wait for Thursday Night football. Both teams are coming off wins but the Buccaneers are more talented offensively and defensively. This game against Atlanta is Huge !!! LG !!
