Todd Bowles Hints At More Carries For Bucky Irving

September 23rd, 2024

Look! A Bucs running back forces a missed tackle on a run. Joe needs a Kleenex.

Yesterday, Joe called for Bucs coach Todd Bowles to “free Bucky Irving.” The rookie running back makes things happen.

Meanwhile, Rachaad White runs for two yards — if he’s lucky.

It seems Bowles may have channeled Joe a little from the bowels of The Licht House. Peppered with questions about Irving and White, Bowles didn’t seem to disagree with the notion that Bucky needs the ball in his hands more.

“The opportunities he gets, he makes the best of,” Bowles said of Irving. “He’s a heck of a football player.

“We just have to get him more opportunities.”

Prior to Sunday, while acknowledging White isn’t having the best of seasons, Bowles suggested he couldn’t take White off the field much because he is such a weapon in the passing game.

At worst, defenses have to account for him in the pass game.

But White’s woeful running is dragging the offense down. The Bucs like to brag they want a running team but if your No. 1 running back isn’t productive, what’s the point?

We shall see if Irving begins to take snaps from White. If Bowles does anything about the running backs, Joe hopes for the love that is all holy, he walks over to Liam Coen’s office and tells the Bucs’ offensive coordinator he never wants to see White carry the ball up the middle again.

    PREACH IT, Brother Joe!!!

  2. HC Grover Says:

Blah Blah. Today we were hit with the White up the gut curse.

  3. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Free Bucky Irving!

  4. ElioT Says:

I think there is more to the story but yes… Bucky needs more touches.

The entire offense and defense looked like hot garbage on Sunday.

    That’s the story.

In other words, Bowels moved. Realizing that the atrocity he allowed and enabled on the field yesterday would remind people of Lovie Smith and the Tennessee Ready fiasco. So he makes a hint of change when in fact he never allows any change outside of his own strict boundaries. A stubborn mule makes good glue after being a mule.

    Hello, Todd.

    go bucky go…

  7. Dave Pear Says:

Bowels can undercoach Payton. Every time. No bloviators need bring up what happened in the SB run. He was a coordinator with a HC who knew how to be.

Now Todd wants to be the hero and do both. While he’s a loser as head coach, at least his head coaching prowess has diminished his already over-rated capacity as a defensive masturmind.

    Jeepers Creepers.

  8. adam from ny Says:

there’s gotta be some packages where they put both bucky and white out there together….

and if not…get those f’in packages twerked into the playbook asap

Hey Joe? A certain Joe? How do you make Baker better? I mean you keep talking about how RW sucks, but fail to acknowledge that BM is a mediocre Quarterback? Just curious. And I’ve watched the game twice without bourbon!

  10. Booger Says:

White runs as if he is stuck in quicksand with two cleats made from concrete. It’s like he’s stuck in slow motion as soon as he touches it, whether it be a pass or a run.

  11. Badbucs Says:

There are way too many weak sisters who are allowed to have jobs on this team. That’s how you get beaten like yesterday. When you know the guy in front of you or next to you is going to get beat every play you lose your motivation. The coaches keep putting those guys in knowing they can’t do the job. Mauch, Dean, Britt, Brederson, Hall all beaten play after play. And how do you lose contain on the edges to rookie running qbs over and over. All this happy talk about how close the team is is a cover up. You can’t tell me the ones making plays aren’t sick of watching their effort wasted by these slackers. The game is more than Xs and Os. The human element is a big factor too. There are a lot of high character guys on this team. It’s a shame to have them wasted by the bad apples. More glass eaters less soft zone tub denizens.

  12. FortMyersDave Says:

BadBucs and Dave Pear make great points. Accountability is lacking on this team and Coach Bowles is 0-4 in his last 4 week 3 games. Injuries are an issue, but other teams adapt while the Bucs keep trying to put a round peg into a square hole. The Bucs played right into Sean Payton’s hand. I hope they can right the Pirate ship or the Bucs will get boat raced by the Eagles.

  13. FortMyersDave Says:

Dave: Bowles will defer to Coen on anything that has to be changed on the offensive side of the ball, which effectively makes Coen the scapegoat. Hopefully it does not become a situation as we had with Leftwich with the insane play calls of White up the gut for 1 and targeting ME 3 times…. For the defense, we saw last year that it to Bowels forever to put Ryan Neal on the pine, I suspect Bowels will not make too many adjustments this year either. To be fair, the loss of Vea looked huge today. Not having Cancey and Vea up front and missing Antoine Winfield has put the D behind the 8-ball but isn’t Bowels supposed to come up with some exotic wrinkles to help counteract these losses? Nix went from looking like Bryce Young in week 2 to being a candidate for rookie of the week against Bowles. Perhaps we should look at who was the HC against Nix last week; Tomlin who knows how to strategize, adapt/adjust and overcome weaknesses which our HC can not do….

Bucky is looking great, but he isn’t the entire team. He can’t do it all. The Bucs also have some main injuries too which don’t help. We have been seeing so much team effort and good vibes over the past weeks, and from reading the training camp notes and other articles on here. Something happened this week after the Lions win. It’s hard for me to say, but they didn’t look prepared. And that does fall on the coaches too. No one person is to blame.

  15. Hodad Says:

If you want the running game to improve Bucky starting should help. Replacing Mauch would also help. He just isn’t an NFL guard. Doesn’t have the build for it, or the strenght. Maybe he can move outside as a backup tackle.

  16. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

The team follows the demeanor of its coach. Looking at Bowles on the sideline tells you all you need to know about our team. Mayfield fooled Buc fans the 1st game but was shown again what he is the last two against good defenses, sub par and mediocre. This season is gonna be a repeat of last season of they don’t fix the lines or take too long as usual to make changes

  17. BucU Says:

F U Bowles!! YOUR entire organization laid down like kittens in a huge home game for first place. You’ll never fool me again you bum.

  18. Bobby M. Says:

The o-line consists of essentially three back ups disguised as starters. Our guards and RT are outmatched. You can still function with one, maybe two backup linemen but when they make up the majority of the line, you’re going to struggle. Irving gives the offense a glimmer of hope simply because he’s making people miss, I don’t think the blocking was any better for him. Irving needs to start ASAP, this team is missing several playmakers due to injuries, makes no sense to keep sitting one that’s perfectly healthy.

  19. Nicholas Carlson Says:

It’s very odd but very true that White can’t seem to see an opening created by an offensive line

  20. Davenport Says:

Bowles has been through multiple coordinators and the one common denominator is the constant, unproductive, running up the middle.

Can we all just pause and recognize that this a mandate from Bowles and not the will of the coordinator?

    46 – 61

  21. Alstott40 Says:

Bucky Irving definitely should get a lot more touches but the guard play is not good at all so far. Mauch is struggling mightily and I never thought Bredeson was the answer, too bad opeta got hurt I’m sure he was their original starter at LG. Injuries suck but the coaching schemes have to get better, you have to make changes during the games when you’re being man handled. When we get Luke back at RT it will help but maybe we need to see what Klein can do at RG or LG.

  22. Bojim Says:

I really like White but we reallyyyyyy need a RB!! Play Irving please.

  23. Joe Says:

Hey Joe? A certain Joe? How do you make Baker better? I mean you keep talking about how RW sucks, but fail to acknowledge that BM is a mediocre Quarterback? Just curious.

Joe doesn’t know if he’s ever typed that Baker Mayfield’s name belongs in the same sentence with Pat Mahomes or Joe Burrow.

And I’ve watched the game twice without bourbon!

You certainly need bourbon now. May Joe suggest Eagle Rare? There’s a watering hole in New Port Richey that actually has it in stock.

  24. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

Let’s do it. Only if they plan on running all things through him as well because whatever cartoon they pulled out in Denver just takes some of us back. I really think feeling good about themselves gets in the way of things. Come On Man.

  25. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

What does two years of saving nothing get you? The same thing we got from White’s running the ball the last two years.

  26. Daniel Z Says:

Maybe Todd Bowles should hint at preparing his team for their games.
