BY IRA KAUFMAN

I found a silver lining in Sunday’s Horrorshow against the Broncos … it was over in less than three hours.

It was quick, and yes, it was brutal.

The 26-7 beatdown was Tampa Bay’s worst home setback since midway through the 2020 season, when the Saints marched into town and administered a 38-3 seal clubbing. That Buc team went on to win the Super Bowl.

This Buc team is just trying to recover before the Eagles arrive in Week 4.

One loss, as thorough and dispiriting as it was, isn’t going to wreck the 2024 Buc season. But once again we are reminded that you will get your asses beat in this league if you aren’t ready to compete.

It was ugly from the start and never really got better. When the Bucs finally built some momentum by reaching the end zone on a terrific grab by Chris Godwin late in the half, they allowed the Broncos to drive for a field goal to make it 20-7. That was a telltale sign it was not going to be Tampa Bay’s day.

Denver applied steady pressure against Baker Mayfield while Bo Nix usually had enough time in the pocket to find favorable matchups.

Nix, who struggled in his first two games at the pro level, looked poised and confident against a Buc defense missing three key starters. He threw the ball accurately and on time while also hurting the Bucs with 47 yards on the ground, including a TD run around right end.

The Buc offense lacked juice, except for rookie back Bucky Irving. The protection in front of Mayfield was awful, especially up the middle. It was a game Graham Barton, Ben Bredeson and Cody Mauch will try hard to forget.

We’ve seen this Buc act before.

They come off an emotional win and look flat against a weak opponent. Todd Bowles warned his players against complacency all week, but he needs a new speech.

While the Bucs looked drained in the heat, Denver appeared fresh and energized.

As the game progressed, Bowles could sense his team lacked both passion and precision. The Bucs didn’t block and they didn’t tackle. That’s a pretty good formula for a humbling final score.

It was a huge step back for a franchise that was climbing up the NFL power rankings, but a victory against Philadelphia and a 3-1 start would restore order.

This was a harsh reality check — and the reality is these Bucs need to approach each game with a sense of urgency. That wasn’t the case on Sunday and now’s the time for the captains to step forward and right the ship.

Here’s how the Broncos made quick work of the home team in Week 3:

* The running back battle in Tampa is over — or should be. Irving may not be a bell cow, but he’s a wild stallion that gets Buc Nation excited. While Rachaad White continues to struggle, Irving rushed for 70 yards on only nine carries, highlighted by a 32-yard run that looked like Barry Sanders lite. Give Irving 18 carries against the Eagles and let’s see what happens.

* The Broncos don’t have an Aidan Hutchinson, yet they managed seven sacks and nine hits on Mayfield. In contrast, rookie Bucs edge rusher Chris Braswell was credited with Tampa Bay’s only two QB hits. Here’s the Bucs’ sorry sack exchange in the past two weeks: 12 sacks allowed, zero sacks registered.

* Liam Coen and Mayfield played scared Sunday and Mike Evans paid the price. Two catches for 17 yards on only three targets is inexcusable for a player of Evans’ pedigree. Patrick Surtain is an elite corner, but how about throwing Evans the damn ball and challenging Denver to stop him deep? Mayfield’s longest completion was a mere 13 yards. Memo to Coen: Evans is worth throwing to, even when he’s covered.

* Bredeson and Mauch aren’t going to like the Monday film session.

* Sean Payton must have thought he was back in New Orleans with Drew Brees under center. Nix made smart decisions all day and released the ball before Buc pass rushers could close in.

* The TD run by Jaleel McLaughlin simply can’t happen. The Bucs had just stopped Denver three times inside the 4-yard line, bringing the home crowd to its feet. On fourth down, a pitch right to McLaughlin looked doomed from the start until he reached the end zone by making Anthony Nelson and K.J. Britt look silly. Wait until Bowles sees the tape of that travesty.

* By the numbers, punter Jake Camarda had a solid day. The numbers lie. He needs to do better.

* Godwin has now caught a TD pass in all three games. Not bad for a guy who reached the end zone only five times combined in the two previous seasons. Give No. 14 credit, he’s playing great.

* How do you explain scoring only seven points at home as a prohibitive favorite against winless Denver? The Bucs went 3-for-11 on third down and 0-for-2 on fourth down. No wonder Denver DC Vance Joseph couldn’t stop smiling on the sidelines.

* The Bowles mantra this week is simple — don’t get too down when you lose or too confident when you win. At 2-1, the Bucs still share the lead atop the NFC South. No one will remember Sunday’s debacle if Tampa Bay rebounds against the Eagles. Antoine Winfield Jr., Vita Vea, Calijah Kancey and Luke Goedeke will be back soon enough. So will winning time.

Too bad the schedule gets brutal too.
This is a 8-9 footballl team

  2. ElioT Says:

“Why don’t the Bucs get more respect Nationally?”

  3. Winny Testaverde Says:

Mauch an example of getting too cute/going to the small school well too often with early draft picks. Mauch is no Marpet and his red wig is all he has in common with Ryan Jensen. Traded up to pick him to boot.

Have The Bucs gone from 1st to worst in one week/weak? Yikes.

  4. Hodad Says:

YaYa looks like JTS. That’s not a compliment. I know why he wears #0, that’s how many sacks he gets a game. Twelve quarters of football one sack between JTS, and YaYa. Busts?

  5. heyjude Says:

    Well said, Ira.

Agreed, Evans did pay the price. He is worth throwing the ball to no matter what.

  6. Trask To The Future Says:

BY WEEK EIGHT WE’LL FINALLY GET A GLIMPSE OF TAMPA BAY’S BRIGHT FUTURE…

    MR. KYLE TRASK.

  7. ElioT Says:

    Total posers

  8. BucsBeast Says:

I knew this this game would play out like this. Sean Payton OWNS
Bowles. The offense was also extremely predictable. ZERO pressure from the
    D line.
Bucs ate the cake before it was baked. Stop Victory Mondays!

  9. Lightningvinny Says:

Will beat Eagles and life will be OK again

  10. Dave Pear Says:

    How do you explain it?

    Two words.

    Todd.

    Bowels.

  11. IrishTony Says:

Yeah if they beat Philly this sh**t show will be forgotten There’s no more time for resting injury; Vita, Kancey, Winfield all need to play. That’s it!

  12. Conte Piscatelli Says:

Two things: one this game wasted the unexpected win we picked up last week. I would feel better if we had lost last week and won today. At least we would be beating the teams we should.

Two: the gamblers had Tampa as the big pick this week. Get the feeling a lot of people lost a lot of money today

  13. Bucnjim Says:

The finger-pointing at individual players is exhausting. This was a team failure from the top to the bottom. Some of us saw this coming. This isn’t about the Bucs it’s about parity in the NFL. The teams considered bad, really aren’t that bad and the good teams are only marginally better than the rest. We escaped last week from injuries, but those catch up to every team.

  14. Bucnjim Says:

On a side note to anyone who plays in a survivor pool I’m guessing after only week three there are only 10% left playing or less

  15. Simeon4HOF Says:

That Sacks allowed/sacks achieved stat is brutal

  16. BucsBeast Says:

    Changes need to happen NOW.
Bucky is the starter. White is a 3rd down back
Skule needs to be cut right now. A warm blanket could slow rushers down better
    Cody is failing.
Find a pass rusher somehow. Bring Shaq back at least he got pressure.

    ______

    Such a dumb statement.

TODAY was brutal against a WINLESS opponent playing at HOME.

  18. A Bucs Fan Says:

The comments from many of these folks come have to be toddlers in disguise. I don’t understand being so denigrating and the vitriol that is spewed. It’s got to be bad for your health man. It’s football.

  19. Winny Testaverde Says:

Now if Jenna Lame reports tears of a clown/in Buc brass eyes this week…I’ll totally believe her.

  20. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Maybe finally time to stop giving Licht the ‘ring of honor’ moniker. Mauch is looking like (yet another) 2nd round bust. Licht can’t draft a d-end to save his life. Barton had been ok, but is in no way the elite center you’re making him out to be. The all-world potential star Kancey is proving to be a bust in the making, just like the highly drafted d-linemen in the previous 2 years.

Liam Coen was a glorified offensive assistant with the Rams, and o- coordinator for a low-rent college team, yet the propaganda on this site pumped him up to be some mastermind. Our HC and QB are career losers. Time to rub the lipstick off this pig of an NFL team.

  21. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Hearty:

Truth bombs dropped everywhere and accurately.

  22. Obvious Says:

What the H@!! was THAT? What a joke… Talk about junior varsity!

So…. Todd Bowles is a defensive genius? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!!!!!!

And Mayfield? The ENTIRE O line??? Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha….. Defense? WHAT DEFENSE?????!!!!

What a JOKE! YOU PEOPLE (the tampa bay buccaneers team) ARE EMBARRASSING!! Especially.. to YOURSELVES and your ENTIRE FAMILIES!

Today WAS WHY ALL the pundents WORLD WIDE bet against YOU! Everything they said you were and ARE NOT came true to the tune of 100% RIGHT!

    SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! SHAME!

There is NO excuse for you people today. YOU ARE NOT EXCUSED! SHAME!

  23. Aaron Says:

NFL is weird – don’t get up to much after a win or down to much after a loss…but take note we’ve been severely outplayed 2 weeks in a row

  24. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

This team wasn’t ready to play today. The players gloated all week about how good they were. I expected dean to 💩the 🛌. He always does that. Thats the easiest call. But I didn’t expect the entire o-line to offer up their fighting qb without any effort or regard on a pedestal. I’m sure he wouldn’t do that to them if the tides were turned. These are highly paid professionals. Or so we are told.
And to make bo nix look like the second coming of Tom Brady. Well, we do tend to make rookie qb’s look like mvp’s. I’ll stop.

  25. SBucs Says:

Last week was smoke and mirrors. This are the true Bucs.

  26. Kenton Smith Says:

Some say that this group plays better when disrespected. Many more performances like today’s and believe me – we will be plenty disrespected. So the 2020 Championship team lost 38 – 3 to the Saints midway thru that season. Tom Brady led them to 3 points. I still believe we’ve got a championship team – we’ve got great players from that team still with us. Cream will rise to the top. It just takes awhile. But we sure sucked today. I mean enough suck to go around.

  27. richbucsfan Says:

This is the roster, this is the coaching staff. Nothing will change til January. Hope for the best.

  28. Mr. Editor Says:

At least Paxton Lynch–I mean–Bo Nix left with a sunburn. I hope that it hurts tomorrow!

  29. Richard Dickson Says:

We’re not as good as the win last week and we’re not as bad as the lost this week.

  30. ElioT Says:

I think this team has some very real problems.

    Totally owned in the trenches.

Not enough dawgs, too many “dudes” with nose rings and fancy hair.

  31. HC Grover Says:

I do not agree….this loss will ruin the whole season.

  32. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They should be called the WTF Football Team now that there’s Washington Commanders

  33. adam from ny Says:

    good stuff ira…

the game was a big setback…

    back to the drawing board…

i thought they were better than this and leveled up…

but they are what we thought they were………..lol

a team that lets a scrub qb shine and look like a saavy game manager…

a team that still plays down to the competition…

a team that disappoints, like the bucs of yesteryear…

today was the worst loss in a long while – a setback…

and yes, a bounce back big win bumping them to 3-1 goes a long way next sunday – moving to 3-1 is potentially huge – and makes this game seem more like a speed bump, rather than falling into a pothole

  34. Clay day Says:

    Pathetic and embarrassing….

  35. El HEFE Rick Says:

I seen a lot of missed opportunities from players biting to early

  36. adam from ny Says:

the broncos did win 7 of their last 11 games last season and were in playoff contention down the stretch…even with all the russell wilson issues…

starting the season 0-2 with the lost bo nixx, i thought they were total scrubs…but they’re not total scrubs…

payton might be putting a program together over there – but it could take the full 2024 season to see the development and tangible results…

either way, we should have come to play today – and we didn’t

  37. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Remember those 2 Ws penciled on the schedule v Carolina?

Yeah go look at the highlights of Dalton throwing for 3 bills and 3 TDs then realize today this season made a BIG left turn.

  38. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    LOL Philly. Delusional.

    They can’t sack the QB.

Baker can’t throw to the middle of the field.

  39. Bucs911 Says:

Weird week, 6 teams that were 0-2 won today.

  40. Josh Says:

Make or Break game we will see next week… This team was never going undefeated and there’s 2 of these weeks a year that don’t make sense where all the teams that are supposed to lose don’t… Hopefully that’s the case if not this could be a long long year with the Offensive line playing down right offensively….

  41. Jeff Says:

The pilot light has officially been lit for Todd “stuck in a 90’s NFL mindset” Bowles. Bucs should be 1-2 and next 7 games are against potential playoff teams. His lackadaisical response in post game was enough to tell.me he isn’t the coach that is gonna take this team to the next level. How many missed tackles are.we.gonna keep seeing? We know Bowles doesn’t mess.with the.offense, doesn’t work with time clock management as there are always timeouts left.and we have to basically crawl out of the stands to cry.for a challenge and if he could win by a half point each sunday, he’d sign up.for it. Bucs had better win 4 of 7.coming up or it’s time to cut bait.

  42. dasaazter1 Says:

Its been the bucs M-O for ever win a couple and not show up to a bad team for an a$$ whoppen ect ect ect

  43. adam from ny Says:

we never threw the ball down the field today…nothing to mike…as if surtin is a God or something…at least werk the dude

  44. adam from ny Says:

    surtain*

  45. Bucsfan81 Says:

This team is really starting to show its colors. What I have realized and Joe was preaching this in the off season. We have no pass rush and the offensive line is not good they are giving up way too many sacks. Like 7 sacks today alone. Last week in Detroit one guy had like 5 sacks. Time to start drafting better on both lines.

  46. Beeej Says:

As I said in another thread, in our Super Bowl season, the Taints whupped us 38-3, post mortem was just like this. Half the posts were “Brady is DONE, we’re DOOMED”.

We lost a game to a non-division/ non NFC team absent 4 starters, 2 of whom are all-pros. CHILL OUT.

(And if I were Luke Goedeke, I’D be demanding a new contract)

  47. adam from ny Says:

at least some 20 yard go up and get it sideline shots…mike can go up and get those…

    nothing at all….crazy

  48. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

Trask will go to Carolina next season and rip Tampa a new one 2X a season for the next decade.

It will be an exclamation point on the futility of this franchise.

Got anymore jokes about Canales Joe? Anymore scapegoat blaming?

The guy is going to rip your heart out for years to come.

They put the NFC South on notice today.

  49. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Hey Beej…

    Tom Brady isn’t here anymore.

Baker is a dead man walking. This team is finished.

  50. Wyoming Joe Says:

Been away for a while, but it’s refreshing to hear from all the usual whiners.

  51. ElioT Says:

Imagine being GayTS or Lauren Hall, looking at peers like TJ Watt and Hutchinson who consistently impact games and realizing that YOU ARE NOTHING, ZERO. Non-factors.

  52. D-Rome Says:

I hate that the Bucs lost, but I predicted the team would be 2-1 at this point.

  53. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Seriously – 2 sacks through 3 games?

That’s not good. Really not good.

Baker was garbage today. Last year Bucs could overcome bad games by Baker by keeping it close on defense. If the defense can’t keep the game close than captain checkdown is going to get exposed.

I have been pounding fists in the desk saying 8-9 wins won’t cut it. Not this year. This is who Baker is. Bucs are screwed.

  54. IrishTony Says:

It wasn’t that they lost to a below average it was the way they lost that concerns me. Championship teams don’t do that. I do think missing Winfield and Vea was huge for the D. Anyway thanks for triggering my YUcs PTSD!

  55. Oxycondomns Says:

bucky got couple good runs on well called gimmick plays he might be better than white but its not by much at least not yet

  56. Beeej Says:

It looked exactly like so many Super Bowl beat-downs we’ve seen over the decades. One team exacts utter control over the line of scrimmage on both sides, and it’s over. As it happens, we were missing 3 of those players

  57. adam from ny Says:

    relax…we were supposed to be 2-1 now…

yet we were supposed to lose to detroit and beat denver…

it worked the other way around, but it’s okay…sort of…

bowles needs to get dem boys in gear this week to whoop up on some philly azz and move to 3-1…

and all the tip toeing thru the tiuips that occurred at ray jay today will must stop…

them boys were playing like they were wearing ballerina tu-tus…

    and just a week ago i swear i saw them out-tough detroit…

coach bowles has gotta get things back on track because philly is tough

  58. adam from ny Says:

***and all the tip toeing thru the tulips that occurred at ray jay today must stop…***

  59. Winny Testaverde Says:

It’s quite the victory lap for Mostly Putrid Trask Fanboy…handing Trask a multi-100 million dollar deal and Can-Do Canales the Coach of The Decade Award. Bask in your glory, lil’ duffer.

  60. BUC4L Says:

It’s almost as if Art the clown looked at us and winked. Go Bucin figure!

  61. Jmarkbuc Says:

The Saints look legit, even with the loss today.

Atlanta is getting their bearings and they are talented. Bucs better decide what they’re gonna do.

  62. First Last Says:

Our O-LINE got cooked today, it was absolutely pathetic. Other teams have great pockets that the QB can climb. Our QB is playing smooshed against the O-Line. When are we going to start bootlegging it? Baker is good at designed boot-legs

  63. Rod Munch Says:

Baker with a 10.1 QBR for today. That’s his worst game since he’s been here.

When Baker is that pitiful, the Bucs have no chance.

This is what Baker does, game 1, we got good Baker, game 2, you got middling Baker, and game 3, you get awful Baker. That’s why no one else tried to sign him and he took a middling offer to come back to Tampa. Zero consistency. If you get a good game, you know a terrible game is incoming.

Hopefully with Luke back, the offensive line will be better and they’ll get a decent performance from Baker vs the Eagles. But who knows, you never know who will show up from week to week.

  64. Beeej Says:

What qb does well with no pass protection? Why didn’t Brady save us from that 38-3 shellacking?

  65. Rod Munch Says:

The Baker Boi(s) here to tell you that you didn’t see what you think you saw and Baker was amazing today, and it was everyone else’s fault, but never Mayfield, never.

  66. RGA Says:

Can’t ever compare Brady to any QB under center for the Bucs.

  67. Tbbucs3 Says:

Im flat out amazed that Bowels can put on a defensive masterclass last week and then is completely unable to adjust to a basic college offense today…..

All the Broncos were doing was running plays Bo Nix ran at Oregon yet Bowles insisted on playing his corners 10 yards off all game.

That was terrible on defense. Also, the DT position without Vita is useless. Greg Gaines and Logan Hall are complete non factors.

  68. Les Says:

Only the buc’s could lay a egg to a bad team in there own house . Just when I was thinking bowles may have have turned the corner he showed me again he is no head coach . They were not ready to play .did they even practice this week. ? Sad .

  69. RGA Says:

After watching the game today, I think it’s possible the Bucs can lose the next eight games. The schedule is challenging, maybe they can win one or two of the next eight. The performance today was an eye opener.

  70. BUC4L Says:

    Go Bucs! 😉

  71. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Yes, we’re missing Goedeke, but the o-line’s performance thus far is very concerning. Last couple years we had pretty good pass protection but terrible run blocking. This year we’re awful at both. And then you look at the d-line, they don’t look one iota better than last year. 12 sacks given up last 2 games while getting 0 sacks – that’s not a Super Bowl team.

  72. Tbbucs3 Says:

Oh look, no surprise Rod Mush is out front and center to blame everything on Baker.

  73. Josh Says:

There was one play that I can’t get over where Bo Nix is still in the pocket, and Logan Hall quits trying after his two-second pass rush effort; he just stands there. Then Bo Nix escapes the pocket to the left and runs for a first down. If he’s not cut this week, we are sending the wrong message. I know we have no one to replace him, but I promise someone actually putting in 100% effort off the street would do better with way less talent. Availability and then effort are the biggest factors in football. This loss was the typical trap game, unfortunately, and the Bucs are who we thought they were this offseason: no pass rush, questionable offensive line, and Baker may or may not be the guy (we can only hope as Bucs fans). We let the Broncos off the hook. Any given Sunday! At least you guys don’t live in Colorado—my phone hasn’t stopped blowing up. One thing to lose, but to lose like that? Just wow.

  74. Hearty Dikerson Says:

And as sacrilege as it is to say, Wirfs has been a complete disappointment this season. He can’t run block for crap and now he’s giving up pressure left and right. Did he mail it in after getting the bag?

  75. BUC4L Says:

I’m tired and 87 is right. Let’s be honest Bucs fans. We all saw this coming but we tried to look the other way. I tried to not embrace fear and believe but look what happened. Shows me we still have a lot to learn. Go Bucs!

  76. BUC4L Says:

Talk smack about the goat and have nothing to show for! Complete disrespect. Check yourself fool! Two Super Bowl ain’t cake! Never forget that!!!! Go Bucs!

  77. Simeon4HOF Says:

It’s almost like ever since dumba$$ Logan hall destroyed Jensens knee trying to shine in a no contact drill out the gate .. his training camps are too soft, don’t get players battle ready soon enough or able to take dings without being out for multiple weeks. Soon as action starts, it’s like half the D is injured this year. I get not wanting to lose guys for the season b4 it starts, but this number of injuries is very every Sus. Also, props to those who said the Bucs would lose in a trap game so to speak .. never saw this peewee practice porgormance coming. On a last note … Jamel Dean you are soft as can be. Was bitter for a while your favorite TB bottle girl happened to be my ex before you started bangin her, but still rooted for him even tho I knew he doesn’t care if Bucs win or lose on any Sunday. I could care less, but your play is lackluster as can be for a so-called CB1. Trade him to det so he can continue his blaze essions with CD111.

  78. rrsrqnc Says:

Let’s do this though, Zyon McCullum is going to be a superior corner. Tykee wasn’t bad either. But without a pass rush, we are doomed

  79. Simeon4HOF Says:

    MB for typos.

Welp, guess Payton got us back for knockin Brees out of playoffs SB year.

  80. BUC4L Says:

And trust me I didn’t like him either, but loved him when he became a Buc! The dude did crap with this team I couldn’t even believe it was possible. Damn man told me! Go Bucs!

  81. Winny Testaverde Says:

Logan Hall…a stiff tweener. Cody Mauch…plays more like Wendy ( the burger joint mascot ) and less like Ryan Jensen. No running game…no pass rush…that’s what you get. Top paid players ( Wirfs/Winfield ) injured/underperforming contract status…lucky to be 2-1. They probably maxed out/over achieved last season. I saw some crazy power poll rankings as high as top 5 after somehow beating Detroit. Best recalibrate our expectations or Trask Fanboys including the insidious Hot Rod Mulch will rule/ruin the site.

  82. Tbbucs3 Says:

At least JTS has made SOME plays as a Bucs like last week….what can Logan Hall say he’s done as a Bucs, not a single thing.

One of the problems that Jason Licht has had as a GM is that he hangs onto these obvious bust for way too long and refuses to cut bait until its long overdue.

  83. Simeon4HOF Says:

One thing to lose today to a team that looked season doomed. But for it to look THAT ugly for 60 football minutes, aside from #14 and #7 … Is what has Tampa Bay in an uproar .. and the blame lies at the Top.

  84. Tbbucs3 Says:

And yes, what an awesome fan base we have when the Trask lovers come out of the woods after 1 subpar performance from Mayfield.

Hey, casuals, NFL QBs dont throw for 4 TDs every week, its not college.

  85. Citrus County Says:

Baker and the rest of the players new immediately after the game that they messed up. So, are the fans to assume that these high football IQ, high character, intelligent, driven to success, and highly paid players that have played football games their entire lives unaware what happens when they don’t take their job seriously ?

Is it not the job of these highly paid and experienced coaches to ensure that the players give their best effort ?

Is it not the job of the head coach to ensure that the assistant coaches and players prepare thoroughly and get their “minds right” for each opponent each week ?

There is no shame in losing a hard fought game. Detroit had nothing to be embarrassed about their loss last week. They played hard and lost.

It seems our players new they were going to mail it in when they took the field. Therefore they should be ashamed of themselves and the coaches should get a good old fashioned dressing down.

  86. Dave Pear Says:

Saying this was a disgrace is an insult to other disgraces.

  87. WiseCrack Says:

BOOOOO, Ira taking a page out of his Tribune education. He cant call out Baker without being scared of losing his job.
Uncalled for and ridiculous. Ira can say whatever he wishes. Obviously, Mayfield had a bad game. Anyone watching knows it. –Joe

This game was a classic example of, if you dont have a QB you dont have a snow balls chance.

How BAD does this guy gotta be before the OBVIOUS is stated. He is an average QB an not one that you can depend on.

Oh but he is a good dad. So you know, that translates to game days.

  88. Tbbucs3 Says:

Boy the loonies out in full force today.

  89. WiseCrack Says:

    Citrus County
You might have a good point in there. Maybe this helps

What job in the “FREE WORLD” of ours does anyone actually care about results at their job.

Pretty sure all anyone cares about is making money and making the “OWNERS OF THE CONTRACTS” (or payroll) happy.

Does anyone really care about anything else these days from a CORPERATE perspective?

Heck I am about to give up on this site because the stank has arrived and personally. I rather just go my own way

  90. Simeon4HOF Says:

Baker made some mistakes today. Took him a while to win me over, but today’s loss was.not on him. It was however enough for the UF fans feeling xtra hope sub Ole miss to anoint trash our qb of the future. He’s a career backup, career will mirror that of long neck that jealously said what we already know bout baker earlier this week. #6 will tighten up. Bakes mouth this week bout TB12 showed he needed 1 more humbling b4 the sky is the limit for him. And Boom there it was lol. Plenty plenty of Culprits to go around for this Home Game as opposed to the QB that got sacked 77 times

  91. Scott Says:

They have a tougher Def then they get credit for.. Denver that is. Todd’s is hot or miss like usual. O line was rough. Can’t expect Baker to make miracles under that kind of pressure.

We are used to this though. Our rookie QB curse is alive and well. Nix looked great out there.

  92. Let ‘em bake Says:

Coen needs to rollout baker. Naked bootlegs. These guards just can’t create a pocket that holds. Yes, Baker sucked today. But the scheme needs to be Tailored to his strentgths. Irving needs to start, to get the linebackers to respect the run, and open the middle. We miss Winfield …fortunate we’re dealing with injuries early . Getting via, Luke, Winfield back will help.

  93. BUC4L Says:

Baker is not the problem. I would say he is the equivalent to Brad Johnson and we all know what he did when we won the superbowl. Go Bucs! Time to rally and get the O & D line back because we all know what really wins games.

  94. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Hey Winny…

Bowles set 100 million Glazer dollars on fire.

How can an offense be this bad with the personnel it has?

    It’s Baker.

  95. WiseCrack Says:

Thank you for not deleting my comment in your response this time Sir Joe’s. I understand and BELIEVE Ira is free from the Trib. I am still just reacting to the game personally. Sorry you are catching FLACK. Just think, that’s how the team feels when DUMB poopoo is said about them.

No reason to delete peoples comments IMHO and threaten to Kick People off your site after a DECADE of posting on it. AFTER an emotional loss particularly.

    Just an honest critique

I get that you gotta keep us in check and you have done that to me over the years. I have no issue EVER being put in the cooler. Just dont get so mad when nothing really bad is said and delete comments. Just say, you are in the cooler or something. That way we all know what we can and can’t say on this here corner of the internet. We know we aint really free. All we need is to know the rules.

  96. Saskbucs Says:

I am as disappointed about today as the rest of you but you doom and gloom guys need to kick rocks. Take that negativity elsewhere. Dallas gets national respect every year and they just got hammered back to back weeks at home.

The mighty Texans just scored 7 in Minny. Vegas just had the Panthers drop 40 on them. The 49ers blew a lead to the injury devastated Rams. The Patriots used to to go Miami and get crushed almost every year. It happens to everyone.

  97. Aaron Says:

Any long time Bucs fan knows – we have a game like this in us…

NFL is weird – learn and move on

I’m concerned that we’ve been out played by a lot 2 weeks in a row…

Let’s see what happens next week.

Go Bucs!!! (Remember it’s just a game – we all have more important things to deal with come Monday)

  98. Simeon4HOF Says:

Yea that interior pocket is a major issue. Thought Mauch would be better and brederson atleast avg. Figured with a good mauch we could handle an avg Brederson. Now I don’t know what all that up the middle pressure today is was even possible on an NFL field exactly means other than Klein will supplant one hopefully sooner than later it appears, and Barton will be elite call today his sophomore season. Whole line today looked off. Definitely concerned about those guards and Baker being able to have a pocket to have presence in. Was bashin skule and rest of Oline today was like hold our Sat nite beers lol

  99. WiseCrack Says:

    LMFAO,
The same Brad Johnson that had a HISTORIC D that is WELL known.

Yeah, Brad would be an upgrade to Baker. At least he knew he would never be more than what he was.

If Baker turned into Brad we would have won today. Baker is not better than Jeff Garcia. FUN, for sure. But all my FUN energy left when the franchise bail on JW for the GOAT. Which was the right move for the moment and we appreciate that.

But Winston ON THE FIELD, hands down better than Baker. To bad JW was not a good dad and sucked as a person though for real

  100. gp Says:

Someone mentioned the betting line and the fact that a lot of people lost money today.
Balance that with an awful lot of un-called holding penalties that would have derailed nearly every Broncos drive.
I wonder how often refs get audited?
    Just sayin.

And for those who are bad mouthing YaYa, It’s awful hard to sack a QB with only one arm, the other being held behind your back. I counted at least three would be sacks, were it not for holding that wasn’t called. There were quite a few more where I couldn’t make out the number on the jersey because some bronco was riding piggyback. Maybe Rod Munch could figure it out while watching the tapes tomorrow, I’ll be at work.

  101. FloridaMan Says:

Baker crashed out today. Didn’t look like he saw the field well and he was too skittish. With Mike Evans you gotta let it rip, scared money don’t make money!

  102. gp Says:

And Ima tryin real hard to figure out why Mr Bowles is back to saving time-outs for the future. Hasn’t he figured out that they don’t transfer?

  103. Bucs since 76 Says:

Baker said Brady caused the Bucs to be stressed out. He said the team is less stressed and having fun. Maybe our players need to be more stressed because they sucked today and there was no fun in Raymond James Studium today for the home team.

    Hey Winny…

Bowles set 100 million Glazer dollars on fire.

How can an offense be this bad with the personnel it has?

    It’s Baker.

Ah yes…the “winning” continues for the mostly pitiful Trash man/fan.

    Bowles didn’t sign Baker…Licht did.

It’s a very fair deal given the market.

But you want to gloat because he and the entire team had a bad game. Nix was more comfortable than you in The Blue Oyster Bar. Once Anthony Nelson & Britt somehow whiffed on 4th and goal…it felt over. And it was.

Good “win” for you and yours though.

  105. StormyInFl Says:

    Trask?

The short-bus waste of a 2nd round pick QB? His slow (mentally and physically) flat-footed ass would have been destroyed with the 5 matadors blocking for him.

The only thing he’s gonna light up is your phone when he’s selling you insurance in a few years.

  106. Citrus County Says:

If the loss had been due to injuries, mistakes, penalties, fumbles, interceptions, missed field goals, poor game planning, clock management, or being physically over matched it would not have been as bad as the lack of effort and lackadaisical mindset.

  107. Citrus County Says:

For all the Baker haters; he has had some extraordinarily good games. His talent has been displayed. If he is too short now why did he do well in previous games. Baker is guilty of the same dereliction as is everyone else in the locker room.

  108. Buddha Says:

I mentioned on Friday that teams that were 0-2 playing against teams with at least one win had a major emotional advantage. Take a look:
    Denver over Tampa
    New York Giants over Cleveland
    Baltimore over Dallas
    Carolina over Las Vegas
    LA Rams over San Francisco
All were underdogs except Baltimore and all won the games outright. Let this be a little handicapping lesson.

  109. Simeon4HOF Says:

Our Defense will shine when Vea, Winfield, and Kancey come back. Shocking how bad our Oline is laying without Goedeke. Today showed a bright spot … We saw what Irving can do on a bad day. We learned Dennis should start over Britt as well, thought he could move better than just a downhill stuffer. And Joe called Otton having a better game. I’m concerned about our head coaching at this point tho

  110. unbelievable Says:

^ we learned that about SVD last week IMO, but Bowles is slow and stubborn when it comes to this stuff.

Meanwhile, the other 3 NFC South teams all looked competent and dangerous today. Any given Sunday.

Season is still early so not all is lost. But to come out so lifeless, pathetic and just looking like you don’t want to be there- at a frickin home game no less! Is just such an insult to the fans. And the Bucs do this at least 1-2x per season every. Single. Season. It’s downright insulting.

I would be livid if I paid money to go to that game and saw that pathetic showing.

  111. Bucsfan81 Says:

Well the good news everyone in the NFC South lost except the panthers which let’s be honest will be in last place this season.

  112. NaplesBucsFan Says:

Well, the only silver lining is both the saints and falcons have injuries to some key players…maybe we get em when we’re healthy and they’re hurting…gonna need any advantage we can get with the disarray displayed today

  113. Mike S Says:

Winny – Baker is Bowles’ guy. He’s the guy Bowles wanted.

They are inexorably linked. Can’t run from it now.

  114. Mike S Says:

Bucsfan81 – unless they dramatically improve from this effort Bucs will be last place in the division.

  115. Mike S Says:

Citrus – Baker beats up on bad defenses.

He went up against a decent one today and got his ish pushed in.

  116. adam from ny Says:

    one loss…everyone knows the rules

    said pizza man portnoy

  117. Winny Testaverde Says:

Mike S…aka Mostly Pitiful Trash Can/Fan…tries a different approach. Well played.

  118. adam from ny Says:

  119. Bojim Says:

Death by rookie. I’ll be shaking my head all week.

  120. TF Says:

The last two weeks I have been annoyed AF. Let’s be honest, last week was more the Lions losing the game instead of us winning the game. Not getting Evans involved in the offense the last two weeks is inexcusable so Coen needs to adjust. I’m not impressed. In fact I’m annoyed AF with his lack of urgency to get him involved and probably the only person more mad is Evans himself. The good news is the Eagles and Chiefs did us a favor today and even if we go 9-8, we will win the division. Big game against an Eagles team that is almost as banged up as us and we should rebound. Just get Evans involved more!

  121. ElioT Says:

    So ****ed in the trenches.

Most disappointing is JTS and Logan Hall.

    High drafted DONE NOTHINGS!!!

    Invisible little boys.

  122. HC Grover Says:

Today the Bucs are the worst looking team in the division.

  123. TF Says:

And for the record, Baker didn’t lose this game. The defense did. The Broncos with a questionable rookie QB came out and punch us right in the nose right off the bat. Bo Nix, a rookie, moved the ball at will. Once again the defense/Bowles had NO answer to a Sean Payton team. Not the first time Payton has beat our rear ends. Payton is living in Bowles head rent free.

  124. Mike S Says:

TF they score all of 7 points.

    Baker lost this game.

  125. Dave Pear Says:

I just read this again and almost asphyxiated on my own rralph.

Todd should be a junior college professor. How long does it take to prove you’re not good at the job you’ve been over-promoted to?

  126. HC Grover Says:

This was a new low. We lose next 2 games. Heading for the cellar.

  127. BucU Says:

An epic organizational FAILURE. Pathetic and disgusting effort. F the whole team.

  128. TF Says:

Mike S But we’re watching the game? 5 minutes into the game, the mighty Bo Nix imposed his will and we didn’t have an answer. Playing catch up because Bo Brees is dominating us and Payton was once again looking like a genius. Didn’t matter what Baker did. We are never going to win a shootout with anybody. Especially if we keep giving up chunk yards on D and long drives, no sacks or forced turnovers and play from behind. So I respectfully disagree. The game plan I’m sure was thrown out the window after 1 quarter and the defense *$hit the bed while Baker/offense maybe peed the bed at most. At the end of the day it was a “team” failure including the entire weeks preparation from the coaches. New week.
