Baker Mayfield An MVP (For September)?
September 21st, 2024Baker Mayfield as the NFL’s Offensive Most Valuable Player seems like a reach in late September. But what about after two games?
NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal isn’t ready to go there yet, even though Mayfield is tied with Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers for the league in touchdown passes with five.
“I’m giving it to Kyler,” Rosenthal said. “How about that?”
That doesn’t mean Rosenthal thinks Mayfield is playing badly.
“Do you think Baker is just more athletic now?” Rosenthal asked his co-host of the NFL podcast NFL Daily, Steve Wyche. “Or is he just on a heater?”
Wyche seems to think Mayfield is taking advantage of being on a good team that wants him.
“He looks fantastic,” Wyche said. “His offensive line is playing well. I just think he’s having fun and seeing the game better.”
However, Wyche seems to think like this Joe, that this Broncos game tomorrow could be closer than the point spread (6.5 points as Joe is typing this).
“The 6.5 [points] seems a little wide to me,” Wyche said. “Even though they are at home and playing a Denver team. … I think this is going to be a tighter game than what we expect.”
At the end of the day, however, all Joe wants to see is the Bucs eat a W and get through the game healthy.
Is Baker Mayfield a legitimate contender for MVP? đź‘€

Denver can’t score and Buc’s can in bunches. Not for sure why they are calling it close

Too short. Mid. Check down king. Can’t throw over the middle. Inconsistent. Can’t throw long. Has no “touch” . Gifted the job. Not “my type” 🤣
Regression assured.

The Baltimore Ravens are 0-2
The NFL is very unpredictable
Any given Sunday
There’s no guarantees in the NFL

They are calling it close because we’re playing an NFL team. As fans we know well that anything can happen. We don’t want this to be Nix breakout game.

Bakerfan … ‘Not for sure why they are calling it close’.
Because our offense doesn’t play their offense, and Denver has a very good defense. Thankfully so do we. Still, I wish that Vea, Winfield & Kancey weren’t out. Gut feel is that Denver will go heavy run with Vea out (a low-scoring game where they control the clock running the ball would seem to be their best chance to win).

Lol Defense Rules. Denver is rushing 81 yards per game. You guys think it will be a 0 to 3 game. My gosh if the Bucs can’t bury this sorry team they have no chance against the Saints

@DR, good logic bro.
@Bakerfan, good rebuttal bro.
Good comments.

Bucs win by 10 or more.

I am hoping for a huge win today. Baker is MVP, and if Bucs win again, he is MVP. I don’t care what any of these sport media analysts say. What happened to Cousins being their MVP? That is all they were talking about for weeks… Now they are on the Rodgers and Murray bandwagon. So confusing. I have never been a Carr fan and he has gotten lucky this season with Kamara.
