“These Guys Are Legit”

September 19th, 2024

So Joe likes intelligent analysts that absolutely watch Bucs games and understand Tampa Bay’s personnel.

For Sunday’s matchup against the Broncos, Joe puts former Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner Ed McCaffrey in that category.

First, McCaffrey attended the Bucs’ opening day game in Tampa to watch his son Luke, a rookie receiver on the Commanders. Second, McCaffrey’s other son, Christian, was a teammate of Baker Mayfield on the Panthers in 2022. Plus, McCaffrey has been an astute observer of the NFC South for years and he lives in Colorado and maintains close ties with his former team, the Broncos.

So it’s easy to see why Joe thinks the elder McCaffrey has a good handle on the upcoming Bucs-Broncos clash.

“I gotta tell you, man. I was at that Buccaneers-Washington Commanders game and these guys are legit,” Ed McCaffrey said of Tampa Bay on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Baker Mayfield’s pocket movement and elusiveness is impressing McCaffrey, and he noted that while the Bucs’ offensive line may not be among the league’s best, they don’t give up on blocks and that allows just enough room for Mayfield to be dangerous when pressure mounts on him in the pocket.

“I see them putting up points on anybody,” he said.

McCaffrey added that as much as the Bucs were impressive against Washington, the team was more eye-opening pulling out a win in Detroit.

As a possible X-factor for Sunday, McCaffrey sees Vita Vea (injured knee) as irreplaceable in the Bucs defense because of how he changes the line of scrimmage and frees up linebackers.

As for the Broncos, McCaffrey is high on struggling rookie Broncos quarterback Bo Nix but he says Nix is struggling with the speed of the game.

    I’m predicting a Bucs win, 26 – 13.

Vita will miss 2-3 games minimum with that Grade 2 MCL sprain.

Impossible to come back sooner than that from that injury and have any kind of push from that leg.

We gotta keep the next man up mentality.

  4. Lakeland Says:

A three time defending champion don’t have to justify their legitimacy. It’s these unintelligent so- called experts picking against the Bucs. They are the ones that look stupid with their dumb predictions..

  5. Lakeland Says:

**The Bucs are the 3 time defending NFC champions**

I’m also wondering if Goedeke will ever take the field again for us.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

    Lakeland,

You can throw TKras in that pile too.

    He’s a doubter.

  8. BucsBeast Says:

This is 1 of those games..

We should blow them out. Defense should only give up field goals.

But, I got that feeling Bucs fold. They NEVER win the easy ones.

  9. Lightningvinny Says:

Got to win games like this!!! Find a way,,,, same w Buffalo against Jags ,,, sounds easy but look at the history ,,, it’s NEVER easy

  10. A Bucs Fan Says:

This is a different team. They will win.

  11. BakerFan Says:

If they don’t win this one, then the Lions win means nothing.

  12. Beeej Says:

    Is Logan Hall back?

  13. Capt.Tim Says:

Missing our to Keystones on Defense, Winfield and Vea, is gonna be hard to overcome. But I do have alot of Faith in Inzien and Greg.

As long was we have Mayfield, we can beat anybody!

  14. infomeplease Says:

Beeej, LH 90 was limited at practice on Wed, and Thurs. That’s progress. He does stand a chance of playing Sunday but probably more of a long shot, since he hasn’t done a full practice yet. Until TB says he’ll play, don’t count on it. Next man up!!

  15. Simeon4HOF Says:

NFC better Recognize. Just wait till we get Winfield, Kancey hummin on this Defense. Young players o ly gonna improve all year, and once our RT is back … I say bring on the Taylor Chiefs

  16. orlbucfan Says:

I just want the Bucs to humiliate Sean Payton. I still can’t figure out why Denver hired his cheating azz. Go Bucs and watch your knees.

  17. adam from ny Says:

payton could get tricky or pull some sh!t……….

but we win the game sunday by 10 points or more…

    early prediction: 30-13

  18. GoneGator Says:

Would be a good game for the defense to make the jump from good to dominant! WHY NOT?
I actually think we have that potential after watching the Detroit game 3 times – lol. We need to get/stay healthy but our linebackers and back-end looked like heat seeking missiles out there all game long. Played “together” and executed the game plan. A few mistakes but very few… that was impressive assuming Detroit’s offense is actually what people thought it was.

The offense is better than last year but it’s going to be a “work in progress” for awhile. I think it will be really clicking by mid season or the 3/4 mark but the D might need to keep playing like their hair’s on fire if we want to win the division outright.

The defense has more continuity and it look’s like a lot of young guys are better understanding Todd’s scheme after after a couple of years in it. I had my doubts about Todd’s defensive philosophy but he’s looking like a defensive genius right now to me. We’re very close to having a defense nobody wants to play against!
