“They Game-Planned Me”

September 17th, 2024

Life as your team’s major edge rush threat isn’t so fun.

Attention is not what edge rushers want. And per YaYa Diaby, he  got a ton of it Sunday in Detroit.

“I ain’t going to lie. Yesterday, they game-planned me, man. They were chipping me every play,” Diaby told the Buccaneers Radio Network.

Of course, the Bucs ran their share of pass rush games to help get Diaby free. He also played 65 snaps (76 percent) and found three official quarterback hits.

Diaby acknowledged that he was worn out by the end of the game and had to dig deep for the Lions’ final drive.

That’s the next step for a top young edge rusher, getting massive attention from a defense. Diaby will have to adjust and prove that he can rise above it — or the Bucs will have to find a beastly edge rusher to put opposite Diaby so either one can be dangerous consistently.

He will get there eventually, Go Bucs

  2. Fred McNeil Says:

We were chipping…or trying to chip Hutchinson most of the day….

  3. NJbucs23 Says:

Get him to start doing stunts, have him stint and blast up the middle.

  4. Fan of the South Says:

4 QB hits if you count the one that cost the team half the distance to the goal.

  5. DS Says:

    We need Kancey back badly

  6. Pryda30 Says:

    Kancy is missed big time

  7. Pewter Power Says:

Yea he’s not close to being on Hutchinson level or shaq level for that matter. Really remember someone saying it’s going to be easy to take him out of the gameplan when you only have one pass rusher. It’s only week 2. One team is eventually going to find a formula and the rest of the league will exploit it too which is probably what happened last year.

  8. ATLBUC Says:

Joe!! Stephen A has the Bucs in his top 5!!!

  9. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

He has a ways to go.

  10. ATLBUC Says:

First take is getting ready to do a segment on Baker

  11. Jmarkbuc Says:

Everybody has a plan until you punch them in the mouth.

  12. JimBobBuc Says:

YaYa is whining, not a good sign. JMac is whining about PI’s too. These guys need to man up and be more resilient.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Send Devin White …..check that….how about the rest of the team….zero sacks

  14. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Maybe he’ll get his when porcelain doll comes back.

  15. El HEFE Rick Says:

We barely touched Aiden Hutchinson the tackle the tight end or rb skule was on an island he is probably in a psych ward right now thinking about how he was token advantage of

  16. Gipper Says:

Hutchinson just a notch below TJ Watt and Myles Garrett but not much. Would be nice if Bucs could find such a player in 2025 draft. Yaya is not the guy but it is a hard standard. Not sure where Bucs find that guy in next year’s draft. They are picked early and high for a reason. Just have to keep on developing YaYa so he can be in next tier.

  17. Woodenman Says:

I tell who is whining is you. We goi out and beat a lions team that we were 7.5 point under dogs to. Don’t give up but one touchdown and here you are whining about a dam good Yaya and McMillan

  18. PowerOfPewter Says:

I wonder why the Bucs didn’t game-plan Aidan Hutchinson, it wasn’t until the second half that Skule started getting help.

  19. 813BUCBOI Says:

i remember JJP and SHAQ flip flopping sides during the game…maybe bowles should allow yaya and JTS do the same…but i love this kids motor

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. Booger Says:

What was Hutchinson’s excuse!? Hmmmm… Let’s please NOT hear any excuses, dude.

  21. Buc4evr Says:

True, Bucs tried to chip Hutch all day, didn’t work. Pick it up Ya Ya no excuses.

  22. Hodad Says:

YaYa was the practice warrior, couldn’t be stopped before he got hurt, and shut the rest of camp down. We were talking about practice. We got another rookie coming in that will probably be holding the ball longer than Goeff. Get it done. No excuses, time to shine. JTS was all over the field, applied alot of pressure. Get the QB on the ground, get some sacks.

  23. unbelievable Says:

lol we barely even touched Hutchinson. And honestly didn’t even chip him that much. Was very disappointed to see Coen’s “plan” for dealing with him.

Skule is obviously trash, but he hardly had any help either.

  24. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Gripper, last I checked Porcelain doll Kancey was also a 1st round pick, just like Hutchinson, Garrett and Watt.

  25. orlbucfan Says:

What’s with all the bellyaching over not stopping Hutchinson? Last I heard, he’s one of the top 5 defensive players in the NFL. His Defense was healthy unlike ours. We were also missing a major link on our OLine unlike the Lions. Bucs were serious underdogs but they BEAT the Lions, fair and square. Now, if Tampa Bay gets blown out of RJS next Sunday by cheating Sean P, then start the howling. I doubt that will happen.

  26. Jaime Says:

Joe, meanwhile, Bryce Huff has an assisted take through 2 games, no other stats. Just saying, grass isn’t always greener.

  27. unbelievable Says:

Hutchinson, Garrett and Watt are defensive ends / OLBs.

    Kancey is a DT

    Completely different positions.

  28. Booger Says:

orlbucfan… no one was belly aching over Hutchinson. It was directed towards YaYa, for making excuses. Don’t wanna hear it.

  29. Crickett Baker Says:

I remember a Saints game when we held A. Kamara to only 30 yards. I just forget how we did that. It might have worked on Hutch.

  30. BillyBucco Says:

Its hard to commit resources when you are HOPING to get your TE involved in the passing game. You just have to give Hutchinson credit. His speed to power is just elite. Plus Skule hasn’t even had reps learning how to allow help the right way. He will play better this week. If he doesn’t then we need to scour the waiver wire. Goedeke will be back for Philly. If not we need to trade for someone. This team isn’t all in yet, but if we go 4-0 or 5-0 I doubt we sit on 26 million. I would suspect they are still wanting to see if any major injuries happen, instead of getting better with that money.
    For Now.
Plus, I don’t see YaYa being whinny.
    Just STATING THE OBVIOUS.
    That’s what happened that’s it.
He has a backup this week, so it will probably continue.
