Joe Tryon-Shoyinka Explains The Standard Of Bucs Ball

September 17th, 2024

Expectations.

Let’s be honest, that was not a pretty win by the Bucs on Sunday. But that sure as hell was a gritty, tough, lunchpail-type of win. A throwback to football of a different era.

Detroit absolutely dominated the game statistically. Except for the scoreboard.

In crunch time, the Bucs manned up. Of the seven trips the Lions made to the red zone, the Bucs denied them a touchdown in six of them.

Four Lions possessions that crossed midfield in the final quarter left the Lions with zero points to show for it. Just awesome play when so many of the Bucs’ defensive stars were out injured.

Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, who actually had a nice game on Sunday, spoke with Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV Channel 8 after the game. JTS said that is the standard the Bucs have: If a player is on the field, even a backup like Christian Izien or SirVocea Dennis or Greg Gaines, he is expected to make plays.

“Anyone that has the Bucs logo on the side of their helmet, they have to show up,” JTS said. “I’m super excited and super proud of the group. They were resilient.

“That is just a glimpse of what we have to do.”

Joe is still stoked by that true statement win. But you know what else is wild? Imagine what this Bucs defense might be like with Antoine Winfield healthy, with Calijah Kancey healthy, with Vita Vea healthy?

It just might be a wrecking crew.

zyon is our #1CB hands down…lets just pray he stays healthy lol

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. SlyPirate Says:

He’s actually a good interview. I’m expecting a lot of sacks this Sunday.

  3. BucU Says:

I’m waiting to hear if Kancey will be spending another Sunday sitting on his rear end watching Netflix all day.

  4. Pryda30 Says:

Let’s get tuned up for the Eagles ! I want a complete game Sunday

  5. First Name Greatest Says:

Standard is to get shredded by the pass up and down the field and hope the offense makes a mistake or hold the team to a Field Goal

This defense rarely locks any team down unless they crap themselves with a bad coach or a neophyte QB

  6. Permanently Moderated Says:

I guarantee you that Detroit would love to have our game numbers and a win than the way it turned out. Great win in spite of the adversity. That’s going to make a difference going forward.

  7. Lakeland Says:

A ugly win is the best win

  8. Cobraboy Says:

Last time this team got off to a hot start—like last season—they believed too many of the headlines about how great they were and then played like Albert Hainesworth and Swaggy Baker on a bad day.

What are the players and coaches doing to be different THIS season?

  9. Cobraboy Says:

One Buc playing WEEEEEEL below his own standard is Jake Carmada.

    WTF has happened to Carmada?

He used to deliver field-flipping bombs. Now after two games he’s not even average.

What is going on with him? Lost his mojo?

  10. Lakeland Says:

What we are witness is a smaller version of Buc Ball!

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

PFT Power Ranking has the Bucs sitting at #3 this week.

  12. Jerseybuc Says:

Buc u. I wouldn’t expect him to play this week. He was out 4 weeks last year. Hoping I’m wrong but don’t think so. Well see

  13. Hodad Says:

They threw the ball 55 times, JTS, and YaYa did not have a sack. They both made other plays, O.K., but not one sack between them. Great win, we didn’t let them score, but if you want sacks from JTS, he has one, YaYa none, they’re not delivering. YaYa zero sacks through 2 games, JTS 1. Come on you two, another rookie coming to town, time to notch a few.

  14. First Name Greatest Says:

    Power Rankings are meaningless

The bend but don’t break defense and great red zone D can only last for so long

Bucs need to get the run game going soon and clamp down on some offenses for a change

83 snaps on defense will begin to wear on this D

  15. Fred McNeil Says:

Best post: Permanently Moderated’s statement that the Lions would love to trade their gaudy stats for a win.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I am really pulling for Joe-Tryon. He seems more active this year so far.

  17. Cannon Says:

    Joe Tryon harder.

  18. Saskbucs Says:

To the guys harping on sacks…Yaya was getting pressure and Goff is a veteran QB, he gets off his spot and gets rid of the ball before taking sacks. We had minimal pressure up the middle with no Kancey and Detroit is a top 3 OL in the league. Not to mention Diaby missed most of preseason.

You know what is a good bet this week? Diaby sack vs Denver OL and Steamy Nix.

  19. David Says:

    JTS.

I have been calling him about saying he needs to go after this year unless he shows up week after week and has 12 sacks or more.
Don’t know if he’s getting 12 sacks, but he has been showing up and playing well

They did not sack GOFF but they had 26 pressures on his 55 pass attempts. I think he got hit 11 or 12 times. That is pretty awesome

  20. adam from ny Says:

    i’m not gonna say he’s leveled up……….yet…

but joe sho is def playing pretty well…

a heck of a lot of guys are developing and making strides…

gotta love it…more proof of a truly well run organization…

    player development is vital

  21. adam from ny Says:

also a note to jason licht…

zyon has a twin brother, who last i heard a year or so ago, was with philly…

i have no idea where this brother is now, haven’t heard much or looked into it…

but if the brother is still in football, maybe see if you can leak him away from whereever he is stashed away…

could be an interesting prospect to pair up with his brother and add to the db room…

    just a thought

  22. orlbucfan Says:

JTS and posse may not have had a ton of sacks, but something knocked Goff off his stride. Lions only scored 1 TD. Both their D and OLines were at full strength. Hopefully, Bowles and Coen will make sure no one lets their guard down. Denver doesn’t have a rep of playing dirty, but Buc faithful are all too familiar with Sean Payton. Go Bucs!!
