“This Can Really Bring A Group Together”

September 16th, 2024

Baker Mayfield speculates.

So the Bucs have won 8 of their last 10 games, but team unity is not as simple as rallying around quality play and tradition.

Yes, “tradition.” The Bucs have three division titles in their pocket after winning the Super Bowl. That’s a winning culture and tradition.

However, players and coaches love to say every year is a new season. There is plenty that does not carry over to a fresh campaign. How many core players return doesn’t matter much, each season has its own identity.

So after yesterday’s thrilling win in Detroit, words from Baker Mayfield resonated with Joe.

“In an environment like this, in a tight ballgame, this can really bring a group together. And I think that’s exactly what we’re looking for,” Mayfield said in the joyous locker room on the Buccaneers Radio Network. “… For us to be able to stick together like that, that’s a good sign.”

Joe will translate Mayfield a bit and say beating the Lions was a galvanizing win than can further bring a locker room together and foster a spirit that can help the team achieve its potential and best handle inevitable adversity.

Last year, the Bucs had a huge bonding win that cemented Mayfield as team leader on opening day in Minnesota, and then three-weeks later they got a total team victory in New Orleans.

Those wins were huge, Joe believes, in making sure the Bucs didn’t unravel in midseason when losses piled up.

Yesterdays win was a “gut check – dig deep” kind of a game. Thrilling win. Are we not talking about what New Orleans is doing though? Holy smokes! Didn’t see them blowing out Dallas in Dallas. Got me kind of concerned.

  2. 813BUCBOI Says:

    great win indeed….

baker wasnt joking about his focus during the offseason being his foot work….his foot work was on full display yesterday and it was impressive….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. David Says:

In the fourth quarter… The Lions threw an interception, turned it over twice on downs, and were forced to punt. Overall, they were 1-7 in the red zone!!
This defense is proving to be deep and coming up big time through two games.
Imagine when VEA and KANCEY are healthy and playing!!!!

So far re-signing Whitehead has been way more than expected. He’s been fantastic.

  4. A Bucs Fan Says:

Broncos starting Right Tackle is out for the Bucs game. Hope they take advantage of it.

  5. SlyPirate Says:

Get healthy game against DEN with THREE HUGE games following:

    PHI, ATL, NO

If the Bucs go 3-0 during that stretch, you’ll can go get that NFCS Champs 2024 tattoo.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

Healthy Vea and Kancey, getting AW2 back, Diaby and Braswell gaining more experience. Nellie needs more snaps, something good always seems to happen when he is in there.

    Lots to look forward to.

And of course, the glass-eating donkey needs to return healthy at RT, and then find a more suitable backup in case he goes down again. A cadaver would be more effective than Drule, at least it’s dead weight that needs to be moved out of the way first.

  7. Bucs 95 Says:

Canales the qb whisper just benched bryce young for andy dalton 😂 maybe he feels like hes jobs on the line ?

  8. Kenton Smith Says:

Who knows why things happen in life like they do. Dave Canales seems like a very nice guy. But he wasn’t a good OC while here. Maybe average at best. And he’s on a hot seat up there in Carolina. And the team he left behind doesn’t seem to be missing him much. A drum beat in his head won’t stop and he is having a hard time sleeping. Baker escaped that hellhole they call Carolina. Let’s see if you can Dave.

  9. Saskbucs Says:

I won’t hear it about the Saints yet. Yeah new OC looks good and they have a big chip on their shoulder … but Dallas is overrated. Carolina sucks and Dallas has no leadership. McCarthy sucks, Cowboys were already high on themselves after beating Cleveland on the road and got slapped because of it.

Saints are healthy right? Bucs beat the Lions very short handed and all I see today is how much of a beast team the Saints are! I hope we are healthy when we see the Saints and they will get the beating they deserve.

Think the Bucs fear Alvin? 13 receptions for 40 yards Alvin.

  10. Dave Pear Says:

SVD will shut down Alvin. Looking forward to that, but not until that game comes. Can’t look ahead, like Todd says, Denver is the focus now. Let’s make Bo Nix look like the rookie he is.

    LFG!

  11. HC Grover Says:

The Carolina Shrimp is benched!! Bring on Wolford.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

I heard it from NC Panther fans that the new ownership stinks! This was a couple of years ago. Supposedly, this owner wants to move the team from Charlotte to So. Carolina. Go figure. Still can’t help wondering why Canales jumped after just 1 (questionable) year here? So far, I really like Coen. I’ve been a Bucs fan for so long, I take it 1 game at a time. So, let our injured guys heal, and bring on Cheatin’ Payton and the Broncos.

  13. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

In expect nothing less than a 40 burger against Denver.

Time to break out the flame thrower and light them up.

    Juggernaut is the default expectation.

  14. BigMacAttack Says:

This was a DEPTH win, something Licht has been searching for since he got here. All the backups did their job. The right tackle gets a pass lol. This team has quality backup players for once, in a long long time.

  15. Bucswin! Says:

Canarie is really good at job interviews. Just saying. Go BUCS!
