Todd Bowles Says “Move On To Denver”

September 16th, 2024

Bucs coach Todd Bowles.

Was Todd Bowles happy with how the Bucs won yesterday? You’re dang right he was. But he wasn’t bawling over it.

And Bowles doesn’t want his players thinking they just won the Super Bowl.

Bowles admitted after the game it was a “Herculean effort” by the defense to win on the road against a very good team. But Bowles wants his players to put the game to bed.

It’s now in the past. The win means nothing if the Bucs lose to the Broncos on Sunday.

“It got us to 2-0,” Bowles said. “It was a big win, but it’s 2-0. My message was, ‘Enjoy the night, enjoy the flight back. We’ll grade the tape [Monday] morning.

“We’ve got to move on to Denver.’”

Bowles reminded reporters the Bucs played great to start the season last year and before you know it, they damn near played their way out of the playoffs.

Bowles has no desire for a repeat.

“We won the first two games last year and you see what happened after that,” Bowles said. “So, we understand that, we’re happy we won, it took a herculean effort on a lot of guys when a lot of guys went down and we’re pleased with the win.”

No one with the Bucs wants to be watching the playoffs with the Stinking Panthers.

Look no further than New Orleans if you think we can just walk away with the division, and make the playoffs. Between the way we’re playing, and they’re playing, so much for a bad NFC South. There’s a showdown coming down the road. We haven’t won anything yet.

Beat Denver. Nothing else matters. Don’t care who is hurt. Don’t care about 2-0 or big road wins.

Win. At home. This week. Against scuzzy Payton.

    @Hodad

Definitely going to be a struggle vs the Saints. I would argue the Bucs have more “convincing” wins this year so far, we beat a Lions team that was heavily favored as a Super Bowl contender coming out of the NFC, and the Commanders at least won their game this week. So far the Saints have only beaten the Stinkin’ Panthers (dumpster fire) and the Cowgirls (beat the trash Browns week 1, still a question mark as to how good they actually are this year.) I’ll definitely be more convinced the Saints are legit this year if they beat the Eagles next week.

Great Win Bucs-Laser focus on Bo Nix and Denver-onward to 3-0.

coach is worried…denver is a trap game

  6. Mike C Says:

Eyes on the prize…. this team can play with anyone, they have a clever coach on the other sideline, Denver will not be a push over.

  7. NCbucsfan Says:

Haven’t started 3-0 or better since 2005. Hard to believe.

  8. Tucker Says:

Cowboys never live up to their hype every season never fails. Bucs definitely making some noise gonna be very hard to keep ignoring them by the sports pundits if they keep this up.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    ATL @ PHI Tonight!
ATL should be 0-2 after tonight with a short week before KC. The Saints are on fire, so put ATL at 0-4 before facing us.

This division will come down to Bucs-Saints again. Should be a battle all the way to the final game!

  10. orlbucfan Says:

There will be at least one Buc focused on Denver prep: Ungodly CG14. Why? Sean Payton’s Aints D knocked Chris out of the game and the season with a cheap shot tackle to his knee. Ole Payton hasn’t exactly lit Mile High on fire with his coaching. Maybe he forgot how to cheat. Whatever. Go Bucs!!

  11. First Name Greatest Says:

All off season media was about hyping up ATL but division will still come down to the Bucs & the Aints

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Todd Bowles nailed it … “We won the first two games last year and you see what happened after that”. He’s obviously trying to keep them totally focused on ‘one game at a time’.

Yes Denver is 0-2 right now, but that just makes them more dangerous. Their defense has only given up 39 total points (to rank #11). Bucs have only surrendered 36 total points (to rank #6). Not that much of an advantage there.

Our advantage lies on offense IMO. Denver’s struggled, only scoring 29 points in 2 games (to rank #29). Of significance, they’ve turned the ball over 5 times already. They’ve also had problems making 1st downs (only 13 per game average for 23.3%). Bucs OTOH have been moving the ball (for the most part), and have scored 57 points in 2 games to rank #5. Of significance, we’ve only turned the ball over 1 time, but we’ve only gotten 2 takeaways also. Our 3rd down conversion rate is very good (47.8%), but we did struggle this past game (2-for-10 … 20%).

HOPEFULLY we get a little healthier, and that should make a big difference. Getting Goedeke back will be big for our offense, but having Vea, Kancey & Winfield out isn’t very heartening. Still, I’m expecting that our offense will turn things back around & have a solid showing against the Broncos. Would love to see our offense own the clock, and our defense rack up some takeaways in this coming game.

  13. Saskbucs Says:

Denver certainly looks like a trap game if guys don’t get off their own hype. Rest. up D and start salivating at the chance to destroy Nix and that offense.

  14. JimBobBuc Says:

Denver is a trap. Lots of very young players that the vets need to calm down. How will the Bucs handle success? I hope the coaches rip some guys in their grades to reduce their head swelling.

    ——————————-
Joe! Please don’t talk bad about the Panthers. We owe them big time! If not for them, that would be us scoring 3 points in each of the first two games.

  16. Panhandle Buc Says:

The message all week should be just that…a reminder of what happened last year and don’t take ANY team lightly! Lets get to 3-0!!

  17. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:

    Bucs should flatten Denver

  18. heyjude Says:

Good for Coach Bowles. Prepping for Denver, looking ahead.

We can win this game. My only worry is the location and the players that haven’t been there. The high altitude and lesser oxygen can make the players tired and breathing problems.

  19. Dead Mike Says:

Don’t sleep on the Broncos. Sean Peyton is the coach and he often had our number with the Saints. Either way he is very familiar with the Bucs offense, defense and players. This one has an “upset” smell about it
