“The Most Physical Game Of The Week”
September 14th, 2024Win or lose tomorrow in Detroit, the Bucs have a chance to show the NFL world that they’re in the same league as the NFL elite when it comes to physicality.
Former NFL defensive end Chris Long, the No. 2 overall draft pick in 2008, is known for his analyst work on the Green Light podcast and on HBO’s Inside The NFL, among other places.
Long is an Xs and Os guy who is very high on the Bucs, including their edge rushers. Yeah, really, their outside linebackers.
In what might be a first that Joe’s seen, Long pulled Joe Tryon-Shoyinka film to share on his YouTube show to illustrate what a great edge Tryon-Shoyinka set in run defense (multiple times) against the Commanders (4:30 mark of this video.)
And like most men with two eyes and a nose for beasting, Long thinks YaYa Diaby is ready to explode.
“I thought Diaby really stuck out [against Washington]. You gotta find him matchups,” Long said.
In Long’s mind, Vita Vea should give Lions Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow all he can handle and diminish his effectiveness. But he belives the bigger key is Lions right tackle Penei Sewell, who Long says often is a true gamechanger in the run game.
Can Diaby bring enough mass and fire to turn Sewell mortal? It’s a huge key to the game for Long, who thinks “this will be the physical game of the week” in the NFL.
Joe will say that if the Lions have a rough day running the ball, the Bucs should have an excellent shot at keeping Detroit under 30 points in their crib, which is a challenging task.
The Rams couldn’t stop the Detroit run game last week and lost because of it, but the Rams did benefit from a Lions passing game that surprisingly sputtered.

The biggest weakness on this Buc defense is KJ Britt. If he can get it going, this is easily a Top-5 defense.

I am worried about Izian, too. I hope he is fired up to play his best.

If the reserves play decently and the Bucs intercept a couple of passes, they could steal a win.

Even if he plays Sewell is hurt so it’s advantage Diaby unless proven otherwise.

We’ve lost our best defender. It’s hard for a defense to recover from a loss like AWJ.
Hopefully some unexpected defenders step up, like SirVoncea Dennis, Tavi Thomas, and Anthony Nelsen.
We’ll need them.
IF the line can contain the pass rush- Baker can chew up their secondary with our WRs.
A Rushing attack sure would help Baker.
And Meybe a TE contributes something besides penalties.

Any word on Logan Hall, Zion McCollum & Tykee Smith yet? They were all listed as Questionable yesterday, even though McCollum & Hall did fully participate in practice Thursday & Friday.

BSPN says McCollum clears protocol

JTS and SVD are set to raise havoc in the Lions backfield. Lions QB better hope his OLine protects him cos he’s no scrambler. I’ve taken a lot of noize on here over JTS. Big deal. I just want to listen to a Cardiac Bucs upset win. Go Bucs!!

Yes – finally some good medical news.
Per Jenna Lane – Zyon McCollum has cleared concussion protocol and is eligible to play tomorrow.

If we win this game, the league will start to take notice, assuming the Lions don’t perform poorly.
I’m staying nervously confident…which is basically saying I’ve got the faith of a mustard seed, but a lot of hope.

Detroit will LIGHT up the secondary. I don’t want that. But that’s just what’s gonna happen if the running game stutters for them. Hopefully I am wrong. But historically Goff will shred a decent 2ndry. Never mind a cobbled together one. If the Ends actually get real pressure consistently or if Goff is er…Off all day we have a chance. Otherwise the dude will just sit there and crush us.

We got 3 of our 4 secondary players, and we DON’T have Ryan Neal to cover for

The only thing I worry about in this game is the only reason why they beat us
in January. Because our pass defense practiced social distancing in the middle of the field.

I’m guessing that LA is feeling the effects of not having Aaron Donald, too. Probably has something to do with them being run on so heavily last week and having the inability to stop it. That can’t be easy to replace… the best ever defensive lineman retires, that’s going to be felt. Not too many talk about that lately.
