Sunday Fantasy For The Bucs’ Front Office

September 13th, 2024

So one of the more satisfying, under-the-radar trades in Bucs history came after the 2018 season.

The Bucs got the Eagles to cough up a sixth-round pick in exchange for seventh-round pick and DeSean Jackson, the cancerous me-first receiver of the Dirk Koetter era in Tampa. The sixth-round pick became the 2019 selection of receiver Scotty Miller, who caught one of the most important passes in Buccaneers history — the touchdown bomb in Green Bay to end the first half of the 2020 NFC Championship game.

Joe has that in mind thinking of what could happen Sunday in Detroit.

No, the season won’t be on the line like it was on that glorious January day, but the Bucs could have similar trade and draft-pick magic in play.

In March, the Bucs traded former No. 1 cornerback Carlton Davis and two sixth-round picks to Detroit for a third-round pick (No. 92 overall) in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht kept the pick and used it to draft wide reciever Jalen McMillan.

McMillan caught a touchdown pass in Week 1 and has looked like an impact pick since spring practices at One Buc Palace.

Of course, Joe can’t speak for the Bucs’ front office, but Joe will take a wild guess and say their most satisfying finish Sunday in Detroit would be McMillan scoring the winning touchdown, preferably with Davis in coverage.

The cherry on top is Davis going overboard this week preparing intense scouting reports on Bucs receivers.

“He’s normally a quiet guy, but he gave the best introduction of those receivers that I’ve ever heard a DB talk ever in my coaching career, and that’s saying a lot,” Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn said of Davis on Thursday, per PrideOfDetroit.com.

“The way he articulated how these guys are, how they act, how they operate was pretty amazing yesterday. I wish I actually (had) taped that just for my own, just so I could show other players that this is how you do it.”

Joe looks forward to Davis sooo overthinking his job on Sunday — and the Bucs taking advantage.

Just for fun — and good vibes — Joe will close with the following video of Davis getting roasted last season at The Licht House.

Yep that scouting report on Scottie miller didn’t work out so well

    TRADE FOR JAYCEE HORN

  3. Saskbucs Says:

What do you have for us Carlton?

Well coach we got 2 1000 yard studs that can beat you in multiple ways and a rookie I have never seen before. They are also in a new scheme and I can’t say forsure how these pass catchers will be deployed.

Thanks for that Carlton, are you ready to shut down the future HoFer?

If I don’t hurt myself in the first 3 series, I’ll give it my best shot.

    Well done, Joe. Well done.

  5. Knothead71 Says:

Davis will not be a factor in this game.
He is outgunned by all the Bucs recievers.

  6. White Tiger Says:

I hope it works out just the way you write it Joe!

Hoping you are completely right, Joe! Aaron Glenn is acting like Davis is their secret weapon. It’s meaningless.

    Always liked Scottie!

  8. PSL Bob Says:

Maybe it’s just me, but that coverage looked pretty damn tight, and Miller is much faster than Evans. It’s like saying St-Juste of the Commandos got toasted last week when Evans hauled in his first TD. It was just a great throw and catch. It wasn’t bad coverage. I mean, I hope Davis gets burned this week, but I wouldn’t be dissing his coverage of Miller.

  9. Hodad Says:

He doesn’t know anything about JMac. Sounds like the Lions are really focusing on stopping Evans, and Godwin, even obsessing some. Could be a big day for McMillen, he’ll be getting their third best corner.

  10. FloridaMan Says:

Salute to Carlton, it was a great run! What he did against Davante Adams in 2020 was legendary. Hopefully we carve him up though!

  11. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Thank you for your service Scotty, but let’s be real, if he was truly a good receiver he would still be here. Nice guy but who cares he’s no longer a Bucc.
