Bucs Down At Least Three Starters Against Lions

September 13th, 2024

Right tackle Luke Goedeke.

Somber times at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.

Starters Calijah Kancey, Antoine Winfield Jr. and Luke Goedeke (concussion) and backup Josh Hayes are all ruled out for Sunday, per Todd Bowles.

Starting cornerback Zyon McCollum is questionable. He still has concussion testing to pass, though he practiced yesterday. Logan Hall (foot) and rookie nickel cornerback Tykee Smith (illness) are questionable.

Biggest lost in Joe’s mind? It’s Goedeke. That will change the offense, and Joe’s seen enough of backup right tackle Justin Skule to last a lifetime. He’s just not starter material. Hopefully, he has a heroic effort in his pocket for Sunday. Skule was a sixth-round pick of the 49ers in 2019.

    Back up right tackle good thing Detroit doesn’t have good edge rushers…

  2. Guadalajara Mexico Fan Says:

    Joe
    Call me crazy, but, I believe that Robert Hainsey could cover the right Tackle instead of Skule.
    If Skule is the one playing tomorrow, it will be a long day !!!
    Cheers from Guadalajara, Mexico!!!

  3. BucsGuy Says:

    Welp, there it is…think we’ll just have to wait til the playoffs to exact or retribution. Just gotta be realistic here. Unless Klein has been getting reps at RT and could provide a decent fill in, Baker will be on the run a lot. I know he makes a lot of things happen in those situations but I’m more worried about a Mayfield injury now than a win on Sunday.

  4. Hearty Dikerson Says:

    Beyond frustrating with Cancey. Hoping he doesn’t become a “never was”. We can’t afford 3 years in a row of top draft picks along the d-line being swings and misses.

  5. zzbucs Says:

    Jesus H Christ!!!

    We buy forks, and suddenly rains soup!!!! That´s bad luck!!!

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

    Max protect. Chip. Use an Extra tackle. Who ever is the best blocking TE chip and release late. Do what ever needs to be done and overcome. My biggest concern isnt pass related. I’m not sure what side the Bucs are going to run the ball too. Most of their negative runs were to the left. Goedeke was the best lineman to run behind last Sunday. Please step up and show out!!

  7. unbelievable Says:

    Sorry guys, this is gonna be beat down.

    Long season ahead, let’s just get healthy.

    And a loss this week will super charge all the Baker haters, so get ready to hear a lot of “See! I told you so! Bucs are garbage…” next week.

  8. Joseph C Simmons Says:

    Donovan Smith is available.

    I’m joking.

    I think.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    @Wombat: Hutchinson is not a good edge rusher?

    Casuals…:rolleyes:

  10. Joseph C Simmons Says:

    I’m starting to think all our offensive linemen should wear those Guardian Caps.

    ~~~~~~
    You’re not so good at picking up sarcasm, are you?
  12. BucU Says:
    Kancey is turning into a big problem. How long is the fragile guy gonna be out this time? 4 games? 5 games? He’ll have to sit on his fat a$$ for a month then how many games for him to get in game shape?
    I’m tired of him already.
  13. unbelievable Says:
    Sarcasm Cobra… ever heard of it?
  14. WiseCrack Says:
    Slide Barton to RT and let Robert play center.
    Only AWJr being out is sad to me. Although Izzy is a baller, reminds me of Ronde.
    As far as CK goes, can’t miss what you never had.
    Everyone else just rounds out a typical injury report. Zyon will be back because we don;t want him to be the first to get “Thunderstruck”.
  15. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:
    Bucs are going to get starched this week in Detroit. Too much to overcome injury wise.
    Baker will put up a credible performance – he won’t be the issue.
    Detroit has weapons everywhere and are a complete team – offense and defense. To go in their house and beat them you need to be fully healthy and have a few good bounces.
    This is the kind of game where your star player needs to make a game breaking play to steal one. The guy who specializes in that Winfield will be in street clothes.
    Bucs go in there and make a valiant showing without being blown out you take it. This is just one of those games on the schedule lined up to bite you.
  16. Mostly Peaceful Trask Fan Says:
    Skule is the swing tackle. He’s the next man up. He’s long at 6-6 315. Just needs to slow down the rush – no need for heroism. Baker gets the ball out quick.
    My prediction is 34-27 Detroit. High scoring affair.
  17. Larrd Says:
    The Lions might be missing Davenport, so that’s one less outside rusher to worry about. Maybe Kieft can help out on the right side a bit.
    Watching Ed Oliver eating up Dolphins’ guards last night made me pine for Kancey.
    Oh well, it’s only the trenches!
  18. adam from ny Says:
    yeah they’re gonna totally “werk” skule…nothing you can do about it…
    down 3 starters plus hayes…and gotta kinda make a guesstimate that 1 of the 3 questionables will at least eventually get ruled out as well…just the law of averages…so we’re down a lot of guys and the RT spot is clearly the most vulnerable at this point…
    i’m wondering if a better option could have been walton…or even walton at LT and flip big tristan over to RT for one game…just a thought…and yeah i know walton isn’t a buc any more
  19. The Truth be Told Says:
    Hey zzbucs Says
    “Jesus H Christ!!!” Thats your comment?
    Why do you feel it is necessary to take the Lord’s name in vain? You must have a very limited vocabulary. Why don’t you just drop the F-bomb instead?
  20. ocala Says:
    Lions may be missing their RT also
  21. Buc2Blame Says:
    Brittle arse football team smh make’em all wear the concussion caps and drink milk ToDD.
  22. SlyPirate Says:
    A Bucs Fan Says:
    Max protect. Chip. Use an Extra tackle.
    ^^^^^
    This is where my heads at, too. Look for the Bucs to use jumbo sets with two TEs or an extra OL.
    Cade has been working on his blocking. You know who else worked on his blocking all Summer = Sean Tucker. He’s the biggest back. Don’t be surprised to see ST in the backfield.
  23. Rod Munch Says:
    I’m so glad Bowles played it safe all preseason, we wouldn’t want anyone getting hurt…
  24. ATLBuc Says:
    C’mon guys!! Remember, CB was a deep position in training camp. Banks was laying some wood on people And I think we’re deep at DT as well. We will be ok Sunday. We are injured just enough to cause them to become complacent. Edge Bucs!!!
  25. Rod Munch Says:
    In the preseason the backup offensive tackles were complete and total trash – and not even going against starters. Wow, losing Luke is huge. Winfield is obviously the most important player on the list (by far) but with the injuries on defense I’m expecting them to look awful and for the Lions to score at least 35 points. The only chance the Bucs have is on offense – and if you have some stiff out there going against Hutchinson, it could look like Watt last week vs the Falcons. I hope Detroit is stupid enough to match Hutchinson on Wirfs.
    Plus, Kancey, WTF. I’ve hyped you all offseason and then right again, you’re back to sitting games out.
  26. Pewter Power Says:
    NO EXCUSES!!!!! Everyone loves the way licht has built the roster so much and they can compete for a championship, does that mean they think they can only compete if they go through the season 100% healthy? They may lose but if they aren’t competitive that is a fault by the coaching staff and front office so no excuses for not at least being competitive everyone has injuries to starters
  27. Cobraboy Says:
    Hard to detect sarcasm from casuals…
  28. infomeplease Says:
    Joe, how about the Lions IR. Yesterday, they listed 2 S who DNP on Wed and Thurs. Plus a T who DNP on Wed or Thurs.
  29. Ryan Smith Says:
    I know people are upset about Kancey but McCoy was also injured his 1st 2 years also. The 2nd year he went out during game 6 against Chicago in London and was done the rest of the year.
  30. captivajim Says:
    when do we get rid of Hall ??? its past time..
  31. Baking with Coen Says:
    I’m hoping for the best a win. But if we don’t is only the second game.
    But if we win IS EXCITING !!!!!
    LFBake!!!!!
  32. SB~LV Says:
    It’s NUTS if the NFL Players Association doesn’t push for larger rosters, and dress and be able to play them all on game day.
  33. Big Sky Buc Fan Says:
    Some of y’all take yourselves and this GAME (yes, it’s just a GAME) waaayyyy too seriously. Consider a second hobby, or prozac, or weed…really.
  34. Oviedo Jim Says:
    Would like to see a post that doesn’t mention a Buc(s) being hurt, especially a starter or 3 or ,4 starters. There is no way they beat the Lions.
  35. teacherman-joe Says:
    Put Mauch at RT. He’s very pliable and athletic.
    Try Klein at RG.
  36. Chad Says:
    Before the injuries I was optimistic, I just don’t see a path forward for us to win this game. Hutchinson is gonna tee off on baker all game without Luke in there, Winfield being gone hurts our secondary. It’s gonna be rough
  37. GoneGator Says:
    4 sacks of Goff, 1 pick, 1 fumble.
  38. SlyPirate Says:
    Ryan Smith Says:
    I know people are upset about Kancey but McCoy was also injured his 1st 2 years.
    ^^^^^^
    This doesn’t make us feel better. As a person and Bucs cheerleader: GMC may be the greatest Buc of all time. As a player: He’s not a fan favorite.
  39. Chad Says:
    I don’t agree with rod on a lot but I agree with him on this, our injuries are significant, it was gonna be upset if we won before the injuries, now it’s gonna be a major upset if we win
  40. StormyInFl Says:
    I thought last year those calling Kancey an injury prone china doll were a little premature.
    Not anymore. Once is an anomaly. Twice is a pattern. Guy is Mr. Glass. Need to draft his replacement (and Hall’s, too) next year.
    And the idea of Skule out there all game on Hutchinson should give Baker and Coen nightmares. Anyone who thinks Campbell isn’t going to take advantage of that, hasn’t been paying attention. They’re totally gonna exploit it.
  41. Usfbuc Says:
    SB~LV – 100% agreement, there should be larger rosters. Season ending injuries also shouldn’t hit the cap either.
  42. Pelsbuc61 Says:
    Kancey is a fraud. All hype no substance. He’ll at least JTS actually suits up and plays. So far Kancey is bordering on bust status if he’s only available half the time. He needs to suck it up. These players are coddled like little pets.
  43. heyjude Says:
    I am holding my breath that we don’t hear about another injury on the Bucs before Sunday. Haven’t checked to see if the Lions have any injuries.
    Not worried yet. But I do agree with Chad. Hutchinson scares me, but we can rest assured the coaches and players are preparing. Remember, all we heard was McLearin before the game with the Commanders. Never heard his name during the game. The Bucs can win this. Go Bucs! 🏈
  44. Defense Rules Says:
    Pelsbuc61 … Hard enough playing in the NFL when you’re healthy; playing when hurt (like Kancey is) doesn’t do the Bucs any good whatsoever.
  45. Crickett Baker Says:
    To me, the best ability is durability. Kancy, for now and past doesn’t have it. Here is hoping the injury bug has feasted enough on our players to be satiated for the rest of our season.
    I won’t mind much if we lose this game.
  46. A Bucs Fan Says:
    Some of you have the patience of toddlers. Lay off of Kancey. The kid produced when he was on the field. Wish him well in his recovery and watch him dominate when he returns to the field.
  47. Shakeandbaker Says:
    Cobra not so good with sarcasm. Fwiw I knew there would be at least one poster who would do it too. Cobra is today’s winner.
  48. SenileSenior Says:
    Skule is our backup tackle for both sides as far as I can tell. We must have some faith in our coaches decisions in these matters. Leave the center to Barton (and Hainsey if needed).
  49. Jason Says:
    Yup Kancey is killing us. Obviously it’s just one of those bad luck things. But 2 years in a row missing the start of the season with the same injury wtf!
  50. Jason Says:
    We are out 3 of our top players where we have the worst depth. Lesson learned Licht needs to build up the depth on this team. Like Bowles said. This tram has zero depth
  51. Pewter Power Says:
    No love for the cowardly, weak ones who are only fans when things are going good. It’s week two and already calling out Kancey. they are scared of the Detroit lions because we aren’t at full strength lol slap yourselves and get it together.
  52. Daryl Green Says:
    Wow just a couple of days ago, on this site.
    People was making fun of the helmets. 🤷🏾‍♂️
    Kancey this fn guy.
  53. orlbucfan Says:
    At least Buc Luck is biting early. At least we’re not Miami. Tua was concussed yet again. Just want my Bucs to play their best. Make the Lions earn it if they win. I still say Cardiac Bucs win is not impossible.
  54. BucsFan81 Says:
    This is going to be a test to see where this team is really at. Most Bucs teams can’t overcome injuries like this to beat a good quality team. If some how we do win then you know we have legit team that can fight through injuries and make a deep run this year.
  55. BucU Says:
    Kancey = 👧
  56. Badbucs Says:
    60 million in dead cap paid to guys not playing this year Jason. Licht making the best of it after selling out for the Brady superbowl. Licht knows where we need help, he just doesn’t have the cash to do anything about it. Unless you want to continue putting yourself in jeopardy with the future cap.
