Injury Situation Grows Worse

September 11th, 2024

Wednesday injury report.

We knew all about the defensive players the Bucs lost last week. But the list of walking wounded, including offensive players, has grown.

Facing an opponent that relishes being physical and pounding people at the line of scrimmage, now is not the time to lose more linemen.

So right tackle Luke Goedeke and defensive lineman Will Gholston popping up on today’s injury report scares Joe. Goedeke apparently is dealing with a concussion. Gholston has a foot issue.

The Bucs are already down defensive tackle Calijah Kancey and possibly Logan Hall, who did not play in the season-opening win over Washington.

Also, physical linebacker K.J. Britt was limited with an unspecified illness.

The Bucs need all hands on deck Sunday in Detroit. Here is the full injury report:

Limited
Linebacker K.J. Britt, Illness; William Gholston, elbow; Luke Goedeke, concussion; Logan Hall foot; Zyon McCollum (CB), Concussion.

Did Not Practice
Cornerback Josh Hayes, ankle; Calijah Kancey, calf; Antoine Winfield, foot.

There’s only a 1 in 8 chance both Luke and Zyon get cleared to play this weekend.

Not good. Not good. Hopefully Haggard is prepared to step up.

  2. JimBobBuc Says:

Regressing to the mean on injuries? It seemed like the Bucs had fewer injuries last season.

  3. PSL Bob Says:

Damn! Didn’t take long for the injury bug to bite us in the arse. Hopefully those concussion issues will be short lived and those listed as limited in practice will be good to go come game time. Hope we’ve got a strong set of defensive players on our practice squad.

  4. Irishmist Says:

Any player who gets a concussion should have to wear the Gazoo helmet for the rest of the season. Make it a league rule, if the owners are serious about protecting players.

  5. infomeplease Says:

Good to see ZM27 and LG67 at least doing limited practice. In a perfect world, both could be cleared from concussion protocol by game day! It will be tough if either or both miss Sunday’s game!

  6. Durango 95 Says:

Joe please do yourself and the rest of us a favor and stay away from the injury report for a few days. Every time I see that Red Cross logo I start feeling pain surging across my chest. Besides, do you really want my demise on your conscience? If I’m going to start pushing up daisies it would be nice if I could at least make it through to the end of the season.

  7. SlyPirate Says:

Week 1: 1/4th of the Defense is Injured
K.J. Britt, Logan Hall, Zyon McCollum, Calijah Kancey, Antoine Winfield
    William Gholston, Josh Hayes

Those some big names at all three levels, too. Wow!

  8. unbelievable Says:

I told you guys a couple days ago this game is gonna be bloodbath.

Losing our RT is only going to make it worse.

Oh well, long season ahead, even if this weekend is gonna suck.

  9. Todd Says:

    Any Lions injuries?!

  10. heyjude Says:

This news is really painful. I wonder if Britt’s illness is what our kicker had a week ago?

  11. Hodad Says:

The Gazoo helmet would be a good idea for both players. It doesn’t have to be a league rule the team could demand it, or not play. You would hope both players would have the common sense to wear one next time they take the field.

  12. Mike Says:

Offensive tackle is the area where we have the least depth. We need both Luke and Tristan to stay healthy so we can keep Baker upright.

  13. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Heal up boys, we need ya!

  14. NJbucs23 Says:

It just seems like this year is going to be lots and lots of injuries. This goes along with not hitting all summer and not playing in pre-season. You’re bound to get injuries when you don’t hit.

This is just the norm now for the game of football.

  15. WiseCrack Says:

How good is Vegas odds makers. Wow

  16. Dave Pear Says:

    I’m afeared, we be forkened.

  17. BucU Says:

Something is very wrong with this team to have this many injuries thru 1 lousy game. You’re doing SOMETHING wrong at 1 Buc Palace.
    Ridiculous.

  18. BridleOaksBuc Says:

    Ira!!!!!

  19. Curse of Gruden Says:

Rub some dirt on it and get in the game.

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Goedeke got a used last year at Detroit but was definitely on an improvement curve. Who’s gonna replace him at RT? If Baker goes down might as well just punt on first down and hope for turnovers.

  21. PowerOfPewter Says:

The concussed players are likely held out Sunday, but good to go week 3. Britt prob recovers from illness and plays. IDK how bad Hall, Gholston, and Hayes are… they are all a question mark to play Sunday. Possibly available week3 against Broncos. It’s very unlikely Kancey can play…when he pulled the same calf last year he was out all of camp/preseason and first couple regular season games, so I expect him out 4-6 weeks. Winfield is definitely out, I expect 4+ weeks. .

  22. adam from ny Says:

dick butkus would have drank a miller light and played the game

  23. orlbucfan Says:

When did Goedeke get a concussion??

  24. Kevin Says:

At least Goedeke and Zyon were limited on Wednesday, so got that going for us…let’s beat the Lions

  25. Kenton Smith Says:

    Wisecrack take that back !!

  26. B Says:

Big picture: this was a road loss versus non division opponent anyway on the schedule versus a team we don’t want to show our hand against in the playoffs anyway. Let the offense pad some stats and get off the field, get some back ups experience across the board then welcome Denver for a win.

  27. Billyboy Says:

Maybe we can just forfeit get wvey1 healthy win nfc south instead worry about lions when healthy it really isn’t a bad strategy

  28. BucU Says:

So when does the fragile handle with care glass tiger Kancey coming back from another calf injury?
End of September? Haloween? Dude is gonna be another Russell Gage.

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It’s almost as if resting the starters in preseason did no good at all.

To those saying this game doesn’t matter…get outage here with that junk!
    Every game matters!

  30. Deuceswild78 Says:

Wish we were healthier but with 17 games need to take long term approach and not rush anyone back

  31. Badbucs Says:

If this goes south fast, we may have to punt this game. No McCollum, no Hall, Winfield out. Interior D line a mess, O line limited. We’re a sitting duck in their house. We could play for a shoot out from the starting gun. No holds barred. Maybe play Trask if we get too far behind. Please save Baker.

  32. Bucsfan81 Says:

Damn we are only in week 2 and we already need a bye week to heal the injured.

  33. Nicholas Carlson Says:

Concussions at practice are not acceptable. Put the stupid guardian hats on!

  34. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t be disappointed in Detroit. The lions are a very good team guys.Very good.
