Ben Bredeson On Two Big-Time Teammates, Graham Barton And Tristan Wirfs

September 8th, 2024

“That second-level education you had won’t help you here, Dukie.”

Michigan is known for its football team and sometimes for its basketball team. It’s a good sports school.

Ask a Michigan Man like Bucs guard Ben Bredeson about academics, and they will boast Michigan takes a back seat to no one with the possible exceptions of Ivy League schools.

Northwestern? Overrated they will say. Duke? They aren’t impressed.

But Bredeson told Joe he was impressed with how Bucs rookie center Graham Barton is preparing for his first NFL game today. And it has nothing to do with Duke, where Barton went to college.

“He’s asking some smart questions,” Bredeson smiled when Joe spoke with him last week.

Barton should ask Bredeson questions. As a member of the Giants, Bredeson played Washington six times over the past three years. So Bredesonn should have intel and insight on the Commandos.

Then there is Tristan Wirfs, the Bucs’ monster left tackle. Bredeson told Joe there is something about Wirfs that rubs off on fellow offensive lineman.

This seemed evident a couple of times before Wirfs signed his contract in the middle of training camp. A couple of times, not often, the offensive line seemed to collapse with Wirfs off the field.

“Just having his presence in the huddle is huge,” Bredeson said. “He’s a great leader in the room. Great friend to all of us.

“I don’t know what it is, but he might be rubbing off on everybody.”

Joe hopes whatever Wirfs is rubbing on his fellow offensive linemen, they are dripping in the substance the whole season.

Just watched the In The Current episode that just came out. Great one. Anyone who hasn’t seen it should do so. It covers all the off-season, camps and signings. I noticed one person said the Bucs won the division the last 2 years and later in the show someone else said it was the last 3. I thought it was 3. The year they won the Superbowl (4 years ago) they were a wildcard team. So I looked it up. 3 was correct.
Interesting that NFCS is 22 years old.

    NFCS Titles
    Saints 7
    Bucs 6
    Panthers 5
    Falcons 4

    Wirfs has great energy

The offense must lead this team, and the OL is where it starts and ends. 25ppg might get 10 wins. An Arians 30ppg number guarantees enough points to overcome zone bust pass defense and win the division.

It’s 2024. Score points. The offense is the strength of this team, play to,your strength. And throw to open up the run.

Gruden, who was a great offensive mind but he challenged his defense to add points with big defensive plays. If that happens its a lot easier to get thirty points. We need to be more aggressive when we get a turnover and not settle for three. Seize the momentum and don’t look back. Go Bucs !

  7. Hodad Says:

Why wouldn’t this guy be happy, he has Barton to his right, Wirfs on his left, two freaks. Ben has never played with that kind of talent. He is the luckiest LG in the league to have those two next to him.

Get the rain gear ready, and Go Bucs!!

Glad to hear all the optimism, now we need results!

    GO BUCS!
