If Ever The Bucs Could Prove They Have An Edge Rush…

September 6th, 2024

No respect for Bucs’ edge rush?

Joe is a burning bush kinda guy. Talk and hope are empty thoughts to Joe. Action and documentation mean something and hold real value.

As the famed late Chicago Tribune and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Mike Royko once typed, “My grandmother died? Let’s see the death certificate.”

There is hope all up and down the roster of the Bucs for an edge rush. Yes, the Bucs actually do value an edge rush. Don’t believe Joe? Then look at all the draft capital they’ve spent this decade trying to find a double-digit edge rusher.

So, man, if there is ever a time for the Bucs to showcase someone, anyone, to get off the edge and terrorize a quarterback, it’s Sunday.

Washington Commandos coach Dan Quinn revealed today, per Steve Keim of BSPN, that he plans to rotate left tackles against the Bucs. Yes, really!

@john_keim: Quinn said they’re planning on giving reps to both Cornelius Lucas and Brandon Coleman. “He’s absolutely ready to rip,” Quinn said of Coleman.

Perhaps Quinn thinks he can get away with this because the Bucs have… who exactly to worry about coming off the edge?

Coleman is a rookie third-round pick who was the projected starter but he missed most of training camp injuried.

Yes, yes, yes. Joe really likes YaYa Diaby. The team loves him. And Joe could cry he wants Diaby to blow up so badly. But until Diaby does blow up, he’s not that guy. He easily could be. But Joe wants to see it.

And we don’t know if Diaby can go a whole game Sunday as he’s recovering from his sprained ankle suffered last month.

On face value, rotating left tackles with a rookie quarterback making his very first NFL start sure seems to be a recipe for disaster for the Commandos.

Memo to Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Anthony Nelson, Chris Braswell and Diaby: The door is open for one of you — all of you? — to dominate Sunday and bring Washington to its knees. Can you take advantage?

    Trap game?

  2. Dave Pear Says:

JTS won’t do anything, Braswell just drops into coverage because he is being well-rounded, so it’s up to YaYa and Nellie.

  3. BakerFan Says:

If they don’t win this game the whole damn team needs to be blown up benched or traded off. If the goal is NFC South championship this is a must win.

  4. A Bucs Fan Says:

Starting the season strong is expected. Playing winning football in November and beyond is what’s required.

The Bucs defense won’t let the Redskins score more than 17 pts Sunday.

  5. J Says:

Seems pretty risky considering he’s got a rookie QB in Daniel’s. It would be risky even with a vet. Rotate the RT’s while you’re at it Dan!

  6. A Bucs Fan Says:

Jayden Daniels can’t read defenses yet. He can make accurate 50/50 throws and run. Box him in and pressure up the middle and the Bucs will make light work of Washington.

  7. Dave Pear Says:

Pressure up the middle with edge containment is indeed the key. That and cover a slant.

Burning bush? Are you sure that’s the example you want to use to represent reality vs wishful thinking or hope? Lol

    Absolutely!

  11. Bucnjim Says:

Sounds like they have game plan for this and he’s daring the Bucs to speed rush. You can count on their QB to run immediately that edge takes the outside angle

I predict the Bucs will beat the Redsk…uh Commanders (what a joke name) this Sunday. They certainly better! However, i think the kool-aid is a little generous this year. We are hoping that someone (JTS???!) will step up and successfully rush the QB. That’s not all we are hoping for. We are hoping for RB improvement. Hoping for OL improvement with a rookie and an OL cast-off. Hoping for a TE that reminds us what a TE like Gronk could do. I and others on this board are hoping that Todd Bowels will not doom the season by playing 10 yards off the WRs.
That’s a lot of hoping for a team that some here predict 10-13 wins. It reminds me of a sales training class where inexperienced sales reps are lost in Hopa-Hopa land.
My guess is we go 9-7. We won’t beat either of the Ravens or the Chiefs from what I saw last night (not all of the game).

JTS is a valuable backup. I’m not calling for him to be released. I just hope Braswell is a little better than JTS.

  14. Buc4evr Says:

JTS will blow up this Sunday and have 4 sacks. Positive thinking. LFG.

  15. Dave Pear Says:

“JTS will blow up this Sunday”

That might happen, a sudden spontaneous combustion. But he’s not gonna get any sacks.

Diaby coming back from an injury… Kancey now with another calf injury… Maybe Vea can take on all 5 offensive linemen himself lol?

Probably be blitzing a lot of DBs this weekend.

  17. D-Rok Says:

Joe, serious question: When you guys do previews for each opponent, can you break down each position group? Like, what I want to know most prior to this Redskins game (can’t stop calling them by their real name, sorry) is just how good is their offensive line?

I mean, if you tell us Wash has a top-5 O-line, we could guess how our D-line might perform.

For instance, the Skins D-line is very, very good and I think most fans know that. Our O-line could be good with upgrades, but we don’t know just yet.

Something to consider in upcoming weeks – can you give us a preview of each group and matchups for games? Or at least give links to a matchup breakdown?

Thanks, dawgs. Appreciate this site and don’t think I’m complaining about your site – love this site.

Until he proves himself, I have zero confidence in Joe-Tryon. But to think what we could be with a Bonafide pass rush guys. Its off the charts. I just hope..we have improved even 25% this year in our Rush.

  19. Mike S Says:

    Bargaining phase already?

  20. Dave Pear Says:

Enjoyed the Burning Bush reference, Joes. I hope no one finds it offensive, it’s a good metaphor for the pass rush issue.
