Flashbacks For The Bucs Defensive Line

Brian Price takes aim on Cleveland quarterback Jake Delhomme in the Bucs season-opening win.
What was cool for Joe to watch late in the game was how late in the game the Bucs defensive line swarmed like angry hornets whose nest was just kicked.
They Bucs defensive, specifically the defensive ends, hounded Delhomme, chased Delhomme, hit Delhomme, punished Delhomme.
It was only the third time in 12 meetings the Bucs defeated Delhomme and likely his last now that he plays for an AFC team.
If not for a defensive holding call late, the Bucs may have had a safety. Tim Crowder was held in the end zone as he was chasing Delhomme out of the pocket but the play was nullified.
That’s the way to put a team out of it’s misery: hound and pound the quarterback. Don’t let your opponent off the mat.
The Bucs did just that.

The D line should only get better as the rookies gain valuable game experience.

Crowder also put a big hit on Delhomme on another play that ended up being an incomplete pass to the outlet RB. McCoy made a great move to flush Delhomme, and Crowder leveled him from behind. Crowder was in for Stylez at RDE that play.

I like to see the pressures on the QB soon enough we will start getting the sacks…. Good D-Line play though, very impressed!

I was at a bar watching all the games (in Montreal for work). What I saw was the DTs looking good and getting pressure and stopping the run (mostly) but not much from the DEs.
I guees I saw wrong or was looking away too much. Hope you all are right and the DEs did get a lot of pressure.
I thought the DBs played pretty good, other than TJax taking a “Sabby” angle on the first Cleveland TD.

I’m very encouraged by the play of McCoy and Price. The Bucs DTs are so much better than last year. It was nice to see the defense really step up in the second half. Hopefully, the line will continue to improve throughout the year.

The D-line played a very impressive game. After the half they comepletly dominated the Brownies!
The scary thing is that they will only get better as the season goes along!

From Buccaneers website…..
“Cleveland’s eight drives of the second half ended like this: fumble, three-and-out, three-and-out, three-and-out, three-and-out, interception, turnover on downs, end of game.”
Now, that’s good. Two turnovers, the rest of the drives didn’t even achieve a first down, except the last drive of the game.

I thought it was a good game all around for the bucs. We started rusty but I saw alot of positive signs out there today. All I can say is that im proud to be a buc fan! All you haters need to hurry up and jump back on the wagon before it fills up! We are going to be a team to recon with in the coming years. Good to get a W under our belt. Now lets keep it going. Next week is a real test for our d-line. Ifd we can stop the panthers rushing attack we might make a run at 10.

Joe, not to get off subject but it would be stellar if you had your own message boards. I love The Animal but…. Just a thought.
Is this game going to be replayed on TV? If so, anybody know when/where?
It is great to see that the defense turned it on in the second half. Hopefully our new lineman will prove to be wise draft choices. Pressure on the QB makes everything happen for a good D.

It’s good to see the Bucs have success against a team with a power running game. I’ll have to watch the replay to see if we stuffed the run or the Browns just got impatient. Either way the D line looked fast and in the 4th quarter was able to create havic when they were needed most.

Why are some of you asking Joe to eat crow and calling him out? He says the Bucs will win 5 games this year. Once they reach 6 wins, then you can call for crow eating and smack talk. Today was a nice win and kudos to Raheem and staff for making half time adjustments. But let’s not get carried away with puffing out of chests just yet.

Their effort in the 2nd half is what I expected of them all year. Swarming. I love it.

I agree Joe.
The defensive line was like watching a symphony in the 4’th quarter and was music to my ears. I can’t wait to read Steve White’s game assessment.
