Report: Eagles Considered Trading Devin White In Late August

September 4th, 2024

This is entertaining.

So former Buccaneers savior linebacker Devin White was cut after last season and landed with the Eagles in March. White says he was too much of a lawyer to succeed in Tampa, among other reasons.

Yesterday, it was made public that White won’t travel with the Eagles to Brazil. Allegedly, it’s an ankle issue.

Bucs fans have been skeptical on social media, and this morning SI.com insider Albert Breer threw gas on that flame with a post on X: “There were murmurs that the Eagles could trade Devin White before the cutdown—Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean both were really good in camp. So, fair or not, White missing the opener won’t help his case for a big role in the defense.”

No, Joe’s not here to lobby the Bucs to trade for White. That mess has been flushed.

  1. Dave Pear Says:

Diva White is squandering physical gifts only a narrow sliver of humans are lucky enough to have been granted. All the talent in the world can’t overcome “me first” and a deficient intelligence quotient.

Hope that Baun and Dean put the Diva in his horse corral permanently.

  2. Anderson Says:

I still will always appreciate devin white because of his impact the year we won our super bowl.

  3. Alexandre Nascimento Says:

    LOL
    Go Bucs!

  4. Cobraboy Says:

Once again, the Bucs saw the “Licht”…

  5. AL121976 Says:

Haha!!! This is what happens when your ego gets ahead of your horse

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

What a shame…White could have been so great but his head got in the way…

  7. First Name Greatest Says:

What a waste of a 5th overall pick

  8. heyjude Says:

    Wow! It’s crazy.

  9. Nobody Special Says:

White spent too much time horsing around.

  10. BucU Says:

He’ll be making derogatory tweets about his current team soon enough.

  11. BucsFan since '96 Says:

White was an important part of the 2020 team which finished with a boat parade. Because of that I’m grateful he played for the Bucs.

Because of that, I do hope he turns his career around. It was kind of shocking to see him have the year he had last year given how high his ceiling is.

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

    You reap what you sow.

  13. Todd Says:

    The unflushable t-urd.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

    “That mess has been flushed.”

Ha Ha – perfectly stated Joe

  15. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Dude was never the same after his father’s mysterious death.

  16. Pryda30 Says:

    Lmao wow 😮

  17. DS Says:

Not sure what happened to this guy, also if he is doing this it must have been no to great last yr

  18. Waterboy Says:

Guess he won’t be getting that 100 mil contract that he thought he was worth.

  19. Jeffrey Becker Says:

why can’t white correct his glaring weakness, over-running plays? whether chasing a scrambling QB like mahomes or trying to cover a mediocre target, he’s always been easy to juke. i feel like that should be a correctable thing

  20. Jeffrey Becker Says:

Devin White, mourning his father’s death, sparks Bucs to 21-16 win in Germany

  21. David Says:

WOW. The ignorance of people trashing Licht and claiming a wasted pick. He was a no brainer selection and DIRECTLY attributed to winning a Super Bowl. How he develops and matures after that…. you can’t predict.

Glad he is gone now but will always appreciate him because they got a SB win

  22. BubbaBuc Says:

    BUH BYE LOL

  23. First Name Greatest Says:

5th overall picks should be players that are on your roster for multiple contracts and making multiple Pro Bowls. Guy had one great year here after 5 years and people want to let Licht borrow their wife for a night.

Truth is Licht fields a winning roster 40% of the time here, he’s good and has built a mediocre roster in a mediocre division.

  24. Fan of the South Says:

There’s definitely something wrong with a guys who’s second real contract is for 1 year at half of what he was making per year on his Rookie deal.

Some guys are able to rebound, have one good year and leverage it into a 50 million guaranteed deal. Just depends on how hard up a team is for help.

  25. George R Says:

    Should of picked Allen

  26. Irishmist Says:

Maybe they should trade him to the Broncos. If nothing else, he could be the mascot.

  27. A Bucs Fan Says:

It’s easy to be critical now knowing how he turned out but White did contribute to a SB win.

Also, the Bucs made the right decision. By the numbers at the time of the 2019 NFL drafts 1st round LB’s had a higher hit rate and turn into long term starters more than EDGE rushers did.

    It’s quantified.

  28. heyjude Says:

    Agreed, A Bucs Fan.

I don’t think he ever got over his dad and the way he died. His horse. Bowles said a new scenery may be good for him. Sadly, it wasn’t. Hopefully, Devin can end up getting the help he needs. Guessing another team will take him.

  29. Win in the Trenches Says:

hope he figures it out…. he doesnt sound hungrey

  30. Greg Says:

    Unfortunate.

  31. DayOnePaul Says:

Devin wasn’t smart on the football field, and he wasn’t smart off it. Great at “go get the QB”. But many times found himself in the wrong position, and dropping into the wrong coverage.
Then let’s all remember he tried to negotiate a new deal even though he was still under contract, because he didn’t know how many seasons a rookie contract was for. Come on, Devin. Doesn’t seem like he’s gaining IQ with maturity.

  32. Fred McNeil Says:

    He’s the Eagles problem now.

  33. Joe in Michigan Says:

Eagles didn’t trade him because nobody else wants him? Will he get cut, like he should’ve been last year after his PITIFUL showing against the Colts?

  34. Kgh4life Says:

The Eagles saw how bad he was in practice and preseason games.

  35. BucFanforLife Says:

Hope Devin gets the help he needs; I ain’t got no qualms with him since he won a SB with us. But he did leave family though to join the dirty birds.. not a good plan.

  36. Fernando Says:

    Foot again? Interesting

  37. Guy In the Stands Says:

At one time dude could of been great.

His last 2 years in TB were nothing but disappointing, then he went knuckle head and thought he could get paid.

He is on a prove it minimal deal and is now “hurt”. The NFL talks to one another and GM’s as much as we love to hate on them are NOT stupid.

  38. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Sounds like White is nearing the end of his NFL career. Too bad. So much talent, so little mental ability to adjust his game.

Devin – stop shoulder tackling. See Winfield and Lavonte – that is how it’s done.

    Nah coach, I got this.

    Ok – then bye bye.

  39. SB~LV Says:

Written so DW can understand why
Devin you have the athleticism of Secretariat
Devin you have the brain Elsie the milk cow

  40. Allbuccedup Says:

Trade him to Carolina for a 7th round pick and a bag of chicken nuggets.

  41. Tucker Says:

Always thought it was more of a discipline problem then most are saying here with his intelligence. He was always trying to be the hero make the play and in a team sport that will screw your team and it did and he just couldn’t see past his ego to figure that out.

  42. Florida Cat Says:

    Dead Horses and squandered potential.

  43. kaimaru Says:

    Bye bye bye

::insert pic of dancing Deadpool here::

  44. Saskbucs Says:

Whoa there David with the no brainer selection. Will never be able to say how it impacted the SB run but a lot of us were pounding the table for Josh Allen instead of White. It worked out and that’s why JL gets paid. Pretty clear who we would rather have right now though.

  45. Bucsministerfuller Says:

I heard Philly wouldn’t let him bring his horse to Brazil.
Just a rumor at this point.

  46. Ed McSherry Says:

Something “happened with White” but it seems it was only confined to last year; because he was a good, solid player in all previous years. But, If he’s not turning things around, then it was the right decision to let him go and replace at that important position.

So much is up to McCollum now, because Deal has been the other way around from White; in that Dean has been unreliable for years with one “short-term” injury after the other, and poor performance when he has been playing.

Cornerback is the one weakness on the team, and it wasn’t fully addressed at this year’s draft; and leaving Dean as the starter seems like a management approach to the problem as a “huh? what problem?” “solution.”

We’ll soon see, but with a continuing of “the Bowles pull-back” defense and a question mark after “edge rusher,” not sure how the Lions pass-game, for example, is going to be under control.

  47. Mike C Says:

Oneilbuc is going to explain to us why we are all so stupid for having doubts about this guy, he will be the best LB in a few years, you will see!!! He will get traded to the Browns and him and Jay miss are going to get revenge on the Bucs!!!!

  48. Joe in Michigan Says:

Ah yes, Oneilbuc, who always claims everyone is making excuses for player X, then gives EVERY EXCUSE IN THE WORLD for Jameis and Devin White!

  49. stpetebucfan Says:

    @HeyJude

Agree completely! We all should appreciate Devin in his youth when he was en fuego and was a HUGE component of that SB defense!

Sad that he lost his way but you pointed to a great reason. Great to find at least SOME compassion on a football blog. I think you’re on to something about the loss of his father. Like you I hope he finds some help in terms of gaining some peace of mind and balance in his life.

  50. Simeon4HOF Says:

    Not the next Ray Lewis

  51. ReeeBarrr Says:

    Counseling can be very beneficial.

    Prayers to the young man.

  52. DJB Says:

Devin just can’t get off his high horse.

  53. Drunkinybor Says:

That fool was doing all kinds of interviews before the season. Saying how much the eagles players respected him and his awesome very good fantastic leadership and hes in a better place that will showcase his amazing skills. He went on to prove his leadership by saying some Bucs called him. They are just saying hi you jack wagon. People know a Bull sitter when they see one. Always remember Diva Don’t talk about it Be about.

  54. dbbuc711 Says:

Is it that they changed their mind or they couldn’t find a trade partner???

  55. Beeej Says:

My understanding is he didn’t win the starting job anyhow. There’s a saying amongst recovering alcoholics/addicts, when they think changing locations will fix their lives. “No matter where you go, there you are”

  56. Ed McSherry Says:

Pardon me, I was thinking about Carton Davis, not Devon White.

  57. Ed McSherry Says:

    Carlton.

  58. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Jameis of the defense. Exactly the same.

  59. JeffreyLane77 Says:

Devin White has a 1yr contract with Philadelphia. 1yr $4Million dollars contract. Perhaps he’s doing the same thing he did in Tampa. Holding in for a longterm contact.

  60. garro Says:

How did we manage to let this dude hang around here so long. He had four good games in four years. Last two years were complete garbage.

My biggest complaint with Todd and to some extent Jason is the fact that they someimes wait to long to take guys off the field. Diva should have been trade bait two years ago when we could have gotten something for him. Doing the same thing now with Hall and JTS.

    Go Bucs!

  61. Bobby Says:

Wow trade him, wow, has he fallen so far from where he was in 2020. What the heck happened to this dude?? GetLive45 was on his to becoming a star in this league following the 2020 season. Devin White is a big reason why we beat the Saints and won those playoff games to get to the Super Bowl. He played incredible in the 2020 playoffs. Then after that couldn’t cover consistently. He was always a good pass rusher though. He was supposed to still be a Buc. We picked the dude at 5th overall!!! His attitude is what put him in this position. He quit on his team. The Glazers have never minded paying players. Jason would have found a way to get Devin payed. Absolutely terrible that he is wearing another team’s colors and he has already been considered to be traded. Well I hope he is humbled now.
