Bucs’ Blitz Concerns Dan Quinn

September 3rd, 2024

Commandos coach Dan Quinn.

In addition to having a rookie quarterback in Jayden Daniels, Washington plans to start a rookie third-round pick at left tackle against the Bucs.

And that tackle is coming off an injury that significantly shortened his summer prep.

Man, Joe hopes YaYa Diaby gets plenty of time rushing off that edge on Sunday,

Even without those factors, Washington head coach Dan Quinn knows what’s coming against the Buccaneers, so he told SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Quinn agreed that Todd Bowles will come after Daniels to test him.

“Todd, their blitz package, it’s legit. It has been for a long time and it’s one of the things that makes their team so good,” Quinn said. “They’ve always had just a big deep crew at defensive line, been excellent against the run game but the blitz package is where it’s at.

“… Offensively, you have to have some ways to get in and out of plays, get to some things you think that are most effective against it. But at the end, man, the quickness it takes from a quarterback to make decisions to be able to speed up when you need to — and fortunately that’s one of the things that makes Jayden so special, his ability to speed up and create while it’s happening.”

Bill Belicheat is known for saying it’s not who you play but when you play them. For that reason, Joe is ecstatic that the Bucs got Washington on opening day. Daniels isn’t Superman. No rookie is, and the wacky, confusing Bowles defense is probably best for him to see now from a Bucs perspective.

Interestingly, Quinn said Daniels reminds him a lot of Matt Ryan, Quinn’s longtime QB with the Falcons.

While Daniels is “California cool,” he’s a savage and “rare” competitor with that “nice-guy image” like Ryan was.

    34 -13. Bucs Win
Sending a message to the NFC South

  2. Trask is King Says:

42-13, trask subs in at 3rd quarter and throws a touchdown. Baker throws for 300 plus yards and ices the game early. Daniels throws 2 INT.

  3. Buccaneer rick Says:

Everyone has a good game on the buccaneers even back ups because like trask is king says we have a game that everyone has to realize this isn’t the same team as last year they are better
    GO BUCCS

    Idk….stroud haunts me lol

    GO BUCS

  5. Buc4evr Says:

Never count out a rookie or backup QB against the Bucs.. For some reason the Bucs always get killed by QBs that they haven’t seen before. Yeah, I’m concerned about a QB that can run.

  6. Dave Pear Says:

Todd’s got a good record against Quinn. It would be the best of all worlds if the Bucs could apply pressure from the Front 3 (Vita, Kancey and Gholston) so that either Nellie or Diaby could apply the fierce heat, and Braswell could drop into coverage. After all the time Todd has him spending in pass coverage, he should be good at it by now.

Madden 25 has Washington very capable of beating the Bucs

  8. GoneGator Says:

We need to go into this game like we’re playing the champs.. and every other game of the season. Don’t assume anything or overlook anyone. Every year teams shock the pundits and all of us.

  9. Rod Munch Says:

Who is the last rookie to start their first game vs the Bucs? Was it Brock Purdy?

  10. Bucswin! Says:

Sunday. Like 4 days away. So ready. Enough chit chat. Go BUCS!

  11. Kgh4life Says:

If the Bucs try to establish the run, the game will be close and the Bucs will have a higher chance of losing, because of the Liam Coen should come out aggressive.

  12. Dave Pear Says:

    Throw the damn ball.

When the offense collapsed under Bowels after BA retired, Brady couldn’t even score more points than Todd allowed.

If the teams of 2020 or 2021 only averaged 20 points a game, they would have been lucky to be a .500 team.

    Score. Win.

  13. SB Says:

It is simply time to lock and load. Then we go on point and eliminate indiscriminately.
    Hope that is the mindset.

Just reminded me of when Aaron Rogers came to Tampa (2008?)and we embarassed him. I don’t think he was a rookie but I think we sacked him like three times. He could not get out of his own way and was totally off his game before half time.

Hope we can make Daniels feel like he should have stayed at LSU.

    Go Bucs!

Man, WillieG hopes Vita gets a lot of that rookie too. Welcome the kid to the NFL with an impossible task, break his confidence early with Vita’s power then unleash YaYa’s speed.

Jayden Daniels is going to be a contender for rookie of the year. He’s not going to be your average rookie QB. He has all the tools to be great. I don’t think he’ll beat the Bucs but it’ll be closer than most people are predicting.

2023 against the Bears Iberflus was attempting to turn Fields into a pocket passer
and get away from his natural running ability. Fields had 3 Rushing yards. Later in the season Fields ran more and was the big reason for their wins.

Late in the fourth quarter the Bears had the ball with an opportunity to win the game down three. Had Fields been running more it may have been the Bucs trailing.

Blitz and over pursue with the pass rush and Daniel could get loose for some big runs. Play contain and he will pick the secondary apart.

Sounds like Quinn is baiting Bowles to Blitz and has plenty of ways planned to make the Defense pay.

    Agree with WillieG.

Like the statue Matt Ryan? I sure hope he does stand in one spot and try to beat us throwing from the pocket.

Yeah, it was some world class terrible coaching by the Bears, to take the best running QB in football and tell him he has to be a read and react pocket passer. Really amazing how dumb some coaches can be, that they refuse to conform to their personnel and just insist on ramming their system down their players throat.

I would be like having a head coach who thinks it’s 1970 still and you run by running it up the middle when you were literally handed a team that had one a SB a couple of years previous throwing the ball.
