Jalen McMillan: Bucs Receivers Should Be Tops In The League
September 4th, 2024Bold talk from a Bucs’ rookie receiver. But he’s not running smack.
Monday, Sara Walsh of NFL Network (and Gulf High School) was at One Buc Palace. She’s a regular there and has seen Jalen McMillan light up the Bucs’ defense in underwear football and training camp. Walsh also has heard Bucs types rave about McMillan.
With Trey Palmer “sore,” to use Todd Bowles’ description, it seems the starting No. 3 receiver for the Bucs on Sunday against the Commandos likely will be McMillan. That’s what Walsh believes and said so during an appearance last night on “The Insiders.”
(A few hours later, the Bucs’ depth chart came out and sure enough, McMillan is the No. 3 receiver.)
Walsh first wanted to know why McMillan and Baker Mayfield have clicked so well. In short, McMillan told Walsh he balls out in practice and Mayfield recognizes that.
Baker trusts him implicitly.
“‘My third day of spring practice, we had no pads on,'” McMillan told Walsh. “‘Baker threw me an uncatchable ball and in my head, I’m going to lay out and catch this uncatchable ball.’ And he did.
“And he said, since then, every goal of his is is to catch everything Baker has thrown his way. And so far, the reviews are is that he has done that.”
Walsh added, “There have been rave reviews about this guy.”
So she asked the Bucs’ rookie, no stranger to playing with excellent receivers in college, how good are the Bucs’ receivers?
“McMillan told me he believes they should be tops in the league,” Walsh said.
Well, that’s no stretch. Mike Evans is elite. Chris Godwin is a former Pro Bowler returning to the position where he had his greatest success.
Then there is McMillan.
If what Joe has seen is the real McMillan, NFL defenses will have their hands full with the Bucs.

It’s clear this dude can ball. It’s clear he’s got some dawg in him. All he’s gotta do is stay healthy and he’s gonna be great. Feels like forever till Sunday. I’m pumped.

Can’t wait to see this guy in live nfl action. Hopefully he gets enough touches to reach his full potential. He has got the right attitude to excel.

He’ll get every teams 3rd best corner. Last time we had a great receiver, Brown with Evans, and Godwin we averaged 31 points a game. This kid, along with Otten will test defenses.

smooth operator.

Loved McMillan right off the bat. There is chemistry and fight there. He is clicking with Baker, Evans, and Godwin. Our trifecta right there. Can’t wait to watch Jalen now too.

Let’s hope so. Last year in the biggest game and last regular season game against Carolina we needed someone else to step it up.
Our offense seemed like it was trying to start a lawnmower with a wet noodle.

With the salaries of the WRs going so high, Jalen McMillan is going to replace Godwin next year. I seriously doubt we can afford both Godwin and Evans under our cap.
Looking forward in in seeing Trey Palmer in a four set WR motion. His speed should give the other 3 WRs in an 1 on 1 situation.

McMillan knows ME13 and CG14 are the under-the-radar elite receivers in the NFL. Plus, don’t forget White’s sure hands. I hope Coen understands the entire talent of his offense, and uses his imagination. Canales sure didn’t. Go Bucs Sunday!!

True that on the salaries, AlabamaBucsFan. I think Godwin and Evans want to retire Bucs, so we may be good to go.
Orlbucfan – Hoping Coen uses his imagination too. So far it is looking that way.

With the improved OLine, additions of McMillan, Irving and Tucker, this Bucs’ offense is capable of taking leads in games which will free up Bowles to utilize more imaginative blitz packages.
Assuming Mayfield protects the football and minimizes turnovers, Coen’s aggressive and imaginative offense should give the Bucs leads in games which will be a relatively new experience for fans compared to the scratching and clawing for points that we’ve been used to seeing.

Beat another defense, and then talk.

Replaces Godwin unfortunately if he balls out

With a proper OC, this should mean points. Lots of points.
No reason why the Bucs can’t have three 1000 yard receivers.
Make it happen, Coen.

It is great to not have divas at the WR position
September 4th, 2024 at 5:20 pm
Only ONE football and so many mouths to feed. It’s a good problem for Coen and Baker to be forced to deal with…I hope.

Also add in Raschad as a receiver and its really scary

The only issue that will hold the Bucs back is the fact they don’t throw it enough to feed 3 WRs, a top catching RB and a young up and coming TE. This isn’t Winston or Brady out there getting 5000 yards, this is Baker who needs 17 games just to get to 4000 yards.
