“Sleeper?” Only For Those Not Paying Attention
September 3rd, 2024Joe thinks the analyst folks who don’t know about Jalen McMillan are the types who have their heads up Kirk Cousins’ poop chute.
Only the shallow and narrow-minded who rely on bogus takes from Stephen A. Smith and/or Skip Bayless haven’t heard of or are unaware of McMillan, the talented Bucs rookie receiver. Folks who love football and read football and study football, Joe is confident, know about McMillan.
So in throwing out a name of a Bucs player who may be a fantasy “sleeper,” Matt Bowen of BSPN believes McMillan could be that guy.
Fantasy sleeper candidate: WR Jalen McMillan. He is expected to start the season as the No. 3 wide receiver in Tampa, where he can see volume from both slot and perimeter alignments. McMillan has the playmaking traits to get vertical, create in space or turn an underneath throw into a big gain. And that fits with the aggressive throwing mentality of quarterback Baker Mayfield. You can take a flier on the rookie receiver late in drafts.
So, it’s time for Joe to get this out of the way: “This Joe’s” idea of “fantasy” has everything to do with Rachel Watson on a secluded Caribbean hideout and absolutely nothing to do with football. But hey, if that’s your personal proclivity, who is Joe to judge?
Joe thinks McMillan is going to be a fine receiver, and Joe is coming at this from reality, not fantasy. With Chris Godwin back at slot and Mike Evans being Mike Evans, Joe has a hunch defenses will forget McMillan or at least not focus on him, preferring instead to try to stop two of the best receivers in the NFL.
If that happens, McMillan is going to make quite a few defensive coordinators pay.

We will see if he will be able to stay on the field when the hitting starts

Fully agree. I have been all in on McMillan. He has had Evans and Godwin guiding him too. The best of the best think he has strength.

^^^^^^
Nailed it. The reason he fell in the draft wasn’t lack of talent. He couldn’t stay healthy in college. The NFL isn’t easier.

Speaking of McMillan, did anyone see what his brother (Tetairoa McMillan) did for Arizona this weekend? 304 yards and 4 tds in one game.

I get your felling’s about fantasy football Joe. I held out for years. “I’m a grown up. I’m too busy to plays fake games that don’t bring income into my house!” etc. Then…my son created a family league. Lights out my Sundays have gotten WAY more interesting! I pay attention to games I never would have before. Now get off my lawn!!!

McMillan is a tremendous steal at his draft spot. Only reason he fell that far was due to an injury on his knee the year before. That is not to be confused with he gets injured all the time, he just had one bad knee injury that slowed him up last year and still put up great numbers. For those who think just because the NFL is going to start hitting him that he’s going to fall away I think you’re the one who will be surprised. And I hear you Joe about fantasy football but you’re looking at it as an atypical fantasy this isn’t for those who want wet dreams. And if you’re any good at running numbers, trending players stats, staying ahead of the curve. And it can bring you an income along with bragging rights usually with friends family or co-workers.

@proud:
BINGO!
“This Joe’s” idea of “fantasy” has everything to do with Rachel Watson on a secluded Caribbean hideout and absolutely nothing to do with football.
Bingo again! Never played. Never will.

I drafted McMillan in both of my leagues.

No no. Joe doesn’t look down on that. Just not his cup of tea. At all. Joe is very much into real football (and real wagering with Joe’s real money).
And, Joe has a much, much, much higher threshold for “fantasy.” 🙂
The only time Joe gripes about fantasy football is when people try to mix real and fantasy.

JMac just needs to do his job. Run good routes and catch the ball, then he’ll get his targets and make Palmer WR4.
September 3rd, 2024 at 10:09 am
Let’s keep proper context here. Sleeper as it pertains to FANTASY. Bucs fans thinking he will be a solid NFL player is kind of “duh,” but it doesnt make him a great fantasy option unless you draft him really late and you can start him if Godwin or someone. McMillan is going to be a 3-4 catches for 45 yards kind of guy with the occasional touchdown, which btw ill take that all day every day from my number 3, doesnt make him a good fantasy option, but it could def make him a sleeper in Coens offense if he has a knack for the endzone or if someone gets hurt god forbid

I don’t know if he’ll get the target share to be reliable in fantasy but in real life the guy looks like a stud

McMillan and Godwin were drafted in the same round and they are similar caliber players.
Godwin has obviously already proven himself to be elite and JMac will too, in time…

I Googled the name and a bunch of different–mostly unattractive–women came up. I’m thinking he made a typo or something?

Come on man, this kid is going to be great!!! If we’re lucky in a few years he’ll stay because they’ll be on him and flashing money. Let’s Go Bucs!!!!
