Danny Kanell: Bucs In; Eagles Out

September 3rd, 2024

The NFL season predictions are pouring in (Joe’s are at the 43:00 mark in here) and CBS analyst Danny Kanell, the former Florida State star quarterback and New York Giants starter, showed a shred of sanity in his selections.

Kanell’s NFC playoff seedings are as follows:

1. 49ers
2. Cowboys
3. Packers
4. Falcons
5. Lions
6. Bears
7. Bucs

Joe doesn’t see the Falcons as better than the Bucs. But if someone is mesmerized by the Falcons’ overhaul and free agent signings and want to anoint them NFC South champs, Joe can stomach that — just don’t crap on the Bucs. And Kanell didn’t do that, as he has Tampa Bay as the final Wild Card seed.

Smartly, Kanell sees Atlanta-style-ridiculous hype being thrown at the Eagles.

Joe will ask the sober fans: When’s the last time a team completely melted down over a season’s final two months, lost a Hall of Fame center and then rebounded immediately with the same embattled head coach and a new offense? That’s what so many are expecting from the Eagles.

Why? Because Devin White will fix their defense and worn down Saquon Barkley will light up the league?

Joe can’t wait for the Bucs to host the Eagles in Week 4. Man, Joe would love to see Graham Barton de-cleat White on the second level.

Kanell seems to think the Bucs will beat Philadelphia. If they don’t, Tampa Bay likely will have to win the NFC South to land in the postseason.

    Not sold on the Bears.
    Lions will win the division
    GB might get a WC
    We win the South

Check back with me at the end of the season.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I know we will be better than the Falcon’s and the Panthers. The Saints? More than likely we will be better than them as well.

Long as we have a better record than those three, I’m satisfied.

That said, certain individuals still need to totally win me over.

  3. Dave Pear Says:

Oh Joe……you gave goosebumps with that week 4 vision!

Oh please, oh please, oh please……….

    Kanell?!

    Really?

    Yawn…

    Go Bucs!

  5. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘And Kanell didn’t do that, as he has Tampa Bay as the final Wild Card seed.’

Horsepuckey. Thank heaven real football is only a couple days away. Bucs have just as much chance of winning the NFC South as the Falcons do.

Could it be that the Vea and Suh opened the door for White to get to the QB unimpeded so he could make use of his speed. A funny thing happened to him on his pass rushing toward his end in Tampa. Teams blocked him and he struggled to play at the same level. He also missed sacks due arm tackling and hesitating at times and was left standing watching as Mahomes and Lamaar juke him.

  7. bob in valrico Says:

    ^^^^ juked him ^^^^

  8. Beeej Says:

Why is everyone so in love with Chicago? There’s no evidence they won’t suck as bad as they did the LAST few years

  9. George R Says:

Chicago just missed the play-offs last year. They are loaded with weapons and just brought in the top Rookie QB since Pat Mahomes

  10. adam from ny Says:

yeah didn’t consider those week 4 ramifications for say, a wild card spot…

week 4 is potentially a sleeper big game very early on, towards late season positioning

    Such language DR!
    You’re better than that.
    😀

  12. JD Still Says:

Right now , everyone is tied for first, or last, very soon the contenders will separate themselves from the pretenders where it counts , by their performances on the field.

  13. First Name Greatest Says:

    No Pass Rush

Bowles COVER NO ONE pass defense

Todd Bowles being the Head Coach

First year offensive coordinator (in the NFL)

    First Place Schedule

7 or 8 wins is the best case scenario

  14. Pewter Power Says:

fascinated with names. Don’t know why everyone picks the bears because they drafted qb? There isn’t some long line of the top quarterbacks in the league right now who went to the playoffs year one

I think the nfc east is going to become the nfc south again Jerry Jones can’t wait to blow it up. After what we did to the packers? I’m also shocked the lions are so low.

  15. Fred McNeil Says:

This team will go as far as Baker can take it.

  16. Fred McNeil Says:

I don’t think the Eagles or Falcons will be as good as they’re hyped up to be. As for the BUCS…we will surprise a lot of pundits who will then claim they knew the BUCS were contenders all along. It all starts this weekend. I still haven’t decided what I want for my Sunday feast. Fat steak? Crab legs? Clam chowder? Beef stew? Fresh shrimp?

  17. Fred McNeil Says:

    My NFC picks:
    49ers
    Lions
    BUCS
    Cowboys
    Packers
    Commanders
    Bears

  18. JimBobBuc Says:

Bucs will be better than the Bears, Baker is being disrespected again being put behind a rookie QB.

Sb says -what ✓ back at end of season that’s it there’s a hole lotta in-between there u really expect me to wait til end of season plz rewrite that post or follow up

  20. Debbie⁴ Says:

We will get the NFC South again. If this team gels, and barring injuries, we can make a good run for the Superbowl. We have the right manpower, and there are a few veterans that are hungry for that ring. They just need to believe it can be done again. I believe. Go Bucs!
