Oddsmakers Reject Rachaad White

August 28th, 2024

So while the Florida sports betting landscape has yet to take firm roots and will still face some challenges, it’s legal and Buccaneers bets are on the table.

Joe took a look at the lone Florida sportsbook, the one that funds the Seminole tribe, and was intrigued by the season rushing total line on Buccaneers No. 1 running back Rachaad White.

White is coming off a 990-yard rushing season but the oddsmakers have his over/under 2024 rushing total at 825.5 yards. For perspective, 20 running backs finished with 900 or more rushing yards last season.

If you’re among the legions of Rachaad White true believers, perhaps you’re now hustling to bet on White averaging just 50 yards per game on the ground and hitting the “over” easily.

Joe, as regular readers know, wouldn’t touch that opportunity.

White has struggled consistently with yards per carry and Joe believes White will be on a short leash this season as the No. 1 back. That means the Bucs won’t hesitate to find and use their hot hand at the position, whomever that may be.

Regardless, Joe will very intrigued to listen to the crowd if White breaks 825 yards this season during a home game. It should be quite a roar.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d take that bet either. Judging by Coach Bowles’ recent comments if White goes back to dancing around behind the line of scrimmage he very well could be on the bench.

  2. Hogg Wild Says:

That’s a lot of yards for a third down back. I don’t think he gets the 300 carries he needs to break 800 yards.

  3. ATLBUC Says:

Perhaps instead of being down on White they are projecting good seasons from Buck and Tuck!!

  4. ir8oldman Says:

I’d Take that bet all day long with a smile. Its bad enough the Bucs are disrespected by not only the NFL Media, but also the Nation of Armchair GM’s who all jumped on the ATL bandwagon and poo-pooed the Bucs organizational moves this off-season.

I will support this team with positive “vibes”.

  5. Buc4evr Says:

Think with the new O-line additions and Coen calling plays, White should get 1000 yards rushing. Think he will have a good season.

If it’s a 20 yard run that puts him over then there will be a roar and Joe can say I told you so. if it’s a one yarder there will probably be some loader roars from opposing fans that have traveled to a road game.

As far as the fans at the game if they have money on it they will be keeping track but most will not have a clue and the roars will be in living rooms.

“the legions of Rachaad White true believers” You’re killing me. That was funny. Yeah, we all know (and hope) his rushing totals go down but that his receiving totals go up. He’s magic in the open field.

  8. Joe Says:

I’d Take that bet all day long with a smile.

    Over or under?

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    “825.5 YARDS PER GAME”

14,000 yards in a single season does seem a little high.

  10. garro Says:

The wise guys are gonna love all the Florida suckers who gamble away their mortgage payments.

    Go Bucs!

  11. ir8oldman Says:

With “Positive Vibes” I’d have to take the over. No problem there! Then of course remember to see me and remind me of my exuberant ideology on betting for the Bucs AFTER the season…

  12. Pewter Power Says:

No surprise there 990 is a misleading number especially with the worst rushing attack in the nfl. He’s rejected because Bucky is in town

  13. PSL Bob Says:

ATLBUC, I concur. Although I think the O-line and Coen’s scheme will improve the overall running game, I think Irving and Tuck will take quite a few carries away from White this year.

  14. SB~LV Says:

The book is running out of pages for RW production record with the Bucs … that said he has not been running behind a strong OL the past two seasons.
I suspect he will have his best year in the NFL assuming he and the OL remain healthy

  15. ATLBUC Says:

White will be all pro, better than McCaffery this season

  16. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Buck & Tuck will get lots of snaps….take the under

  17. Asstrole Says:

I was unhappy with White last year. But I think a lot of that was attributable to that lousy OC we dumped on Carolina

  18. Dave Pear Says:

To quote Alice Cooper, “…and personally, I don’t care.”

Score more points. Give up fewer yards passing. Win games.

  19. Critmark Says:

It looked like he was hitting the hole with more authority during this preseason. Now that was the preseason with back-up defenders. If he keeps that up his YPC will go up, but I think, as others have stated, his carries go down.

That will be a good problem to have, your lead back improving his YPC but can’t get as many carries because of the depth in the back field. If the Bucs can move from last in the league to even middle of the pack, that sounds like 10 wins to me.

  20. Oxycondomns Says:

he did it last year with a crappier offensive line . the odds are he wont have enough carries to do it again due to drafting a rb to help with the load

  21. Bucnation Says:

I picked a white to get over 5.5 rushing TDs so he better at lest do that!

  22. GoneGator Says:

Please stop with “Buck and Tuck”. It sounds like the gay version of the “Huck and Buck” or trans date prep.

  23. Tucker Says:

Really doesn’t matter as long as the bucs win I don’t care what his stats are at the end of the season.

  24. D-Rome Says:

    I’m betting the under.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

    Your daily White bashing article.

  26. Beeej Says:

I don’t think he gets more than 200 carries, but I’ll bet he averages over 4 yde per

  27. NCBuc Says:

Yep, Tucker had less ypc than RW last year. Pretty much like Low Ball Lenny had less ypc carry then RW the last season he was here. But it’s new and sparkling! Just like BM6 coming in and being a middle of the pack QB was new and sparkling because of his “Moxie”! I’ll be willing to eat crow if RW1 isn’t a better RB then BM6 is a QB!

  28. stpetebucfan Says:

I’m a big fan of Rachaads. Yeah he talks too much so do I!

He’s not a power runner but he’s obviously very effective in the open field as a receiver and a runner and with the new OL I expect continued improvement.

But I’m not a stats guy at all!!! I don’t care if he gets 400 or 1000 yards rushing if he is part of a team that goes deep into the playoffs. Irving is going to get his and honestly White was totally overworked last year anyway.

The ONLY stats I give any deference to are the career stats. Thus I’m rooting for ME to get another consecutive 1000 yards. But ME is the ONLY player who PERSONAL stats I really care about. It’s the team and wins and losses that count.

Jerry Rice is still the GOAT but he played until he was 44. IF ME , only 31, can make it another five years, not exceptional or out of the question, he may not keep up the 1000 yards per season but ME13 has a chance to approach greatness when it comes to the yardage he puts up.

ME13 is sneaky fast but he’s not made his bucks burning guys deep and stretching the field. He uses his size and basketball rebounding experience to be one of the very best possession receivers I have seen. Speed ages a lot faster than size, smarts, and competitiveness. Yeah he drops some easy ones but seriously!!! Over the course of his career ME13 has been MONEY.

  29. EEK Says:

I think he was much more dangerous catching the ball out of the backfield so hopefully that continues
Getting fired up for the season

  30. Irishmist Says:

After all the time and effort our ancestors took stealing land away from the Indians, it seems kind of silly to hand them our hard earned money so they can buy it all back.

  31. Ex-Browns02 Says:

I think all three are going split the carries, so yards per carry will be the significant metric. There’s much more flexibility in Coen’s offense (versus Canales’).

It’s going to be less of a nail-biting season than ’23. Go Bucs!

  32. Zoocomics Says:

JBF is good enough of a sport to accept that if White is averaging 4 yards a carry, yet fails to go over a thousand yards due to the mouths to feed at RB, he will concede that White is a good running back.

  33. stpetebucfan Says:

    Irishmist

I assume you’re referring to the Seminole Book. I like your humor but would add even though it’s a joke it would obviously be fair if they got enough of our money.

Btw I’m Irish and my father was a bookie so I support the Seminoles!

As far as buying us it does make me wonder what their cut is. Horse tracks traditionally take about 15% before splitting the pot. At least the tracks and the Seminoles give us the CHANCE to keep our money and make even more.

As the son of a bookie I say don’t count on it. The guys I knew growing up who actually made money betting the ponies worked so hard they might as well had a job. Its not fun or ego boosting. These guys hang out at the track at sunrise to watch workouts, time horses, talk to trainers and jockeys and then perhaps make ONE major bet all day. They were about making money not having fun!

The only way to surely won money is to BE THE BOOK. My father definitely taught me that one.

  34. unbelievable Says:

    Easy under.

He’s no longer going to be the only back running then all. I think his YPC will be much improved tho, even with a lower season total.
